Spectacular Sunsets At Historic Lakefront Cottage On Beautiful Lake Bellaire

The AhWaGa, built in the 1890s, is a newly renovated lake front retreat. Wake up in a bright, cheery bedroom, make coffee in a full kitchen, and ease into your day under the covered porch, while overlooking the serenity of Lake Bellaire and listening for beckoning calls of the loons.

The cottage features the original maple hardwood floors, milled by the Thomas Forman Lumber Company of Petoskey, Michigan in the early 1890s.

Kitchen/Living Room: new, fully equipped kitchen with dish washer, quartz countertops, and new stainless appliances, beautiful gas fireplace with TV and Blu Ray DVD player, queen-size pull out couch, and historical artifacts.

Bathroom: all new tiled shower and floor, quartz countertop, new full-size washer and dryer.

Wrap Around Covered Porch: Adds additional outdoor furnished space with eating and seating areas.

This 1890's cottage, noted as the first built on Lake Bellaire, maintains its original design and boasts updated decor that feature heirlooms from The AhWaGa's founding family.

Uniquely 15 feet from the shoreline, this historical cottage invites the cool lake breeze. Such proximity is no longer allowed. West-facing porch offers views of magical sunsets that paint the sky and water as a changing mural with dusk falling into quiet, star-filled nights.

Lake Bellaire is a part of the Antrim County Chain-of-Lakes waterway. Bring your watercraft and boat across Lake Bellaire to the Grass River, Clam Lake and River to the famous Dockside eatery on the shore of Torch Lake. Enjoy a variety of activities on crystal clear Lake Bellaire with provided kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boat along with floating, swimming, and fishing.

About Jen

We purchased the property in 2013 after spending an afternoon on Lake Bellaire.

Jen purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Jen chose Bellaire

I grew up in Bellaire and have always loved, and enjoyed, the beauty of Lake Bellaire. I saw The AhWaGa for the first time on the water of Lake Bellaire. The historical nature of the cottage appealed to me. We are only the second owners of The AhWaGa--purchasing the cottage from the original family who built the cottage in the 1890's. The restoration of the cottage has been an incredible experience.

What makes this cottage unique

We fell in love with the quaintness of the cottage, from the wrap around porch to being so close to the shoreline. The sunsets are stunning.

Fabulous Family Vacation at the AhWaGa

  • 5 of 5

My family of four stayed at the AhWaGa last week. So much to do and we had a great time. Jen and Tim were very accommodating and made it very easy. The cottage is small, but the porch gives so much additional living space. It was also fun to be in close quarters for a week. Between the paddle boat, the paddle boards and the kayaks, my kids didn't know what to do first in the morning. We would definitely recommend this to other small families as a place to spend their holiday.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Adorable cottage with modern features and updates all while keeping the original charm intact. We traveled in mid May, so we anticipated the cooler weather and waters of Lake Bellaire, though it was perfect for our family. The porch overlooks one of the best sunset views, which we took advantage of with a good book and glass of wine. We both loved paddleboarding along the shoreline during the calm waters of morning. The water is also very shallow and sandy in front of the cottage and extends out a while before the drop-off. There are almost no rocks in the water, except for the breakwall which is visible in the pictures. Very comfortable amenities inside and out, and Jen went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be returning. The only downside - we don't own the cottage ourselves!

Gorgeous Historic Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in early October. Jen was very easy to work with from first contact to answering any questions we had. The cottage is instead enchanting and very historic but completely renovated. We slept well on the comfortable bed and enjoyed the porch just feet away from Lake Bellaire as well as the fireplace which was nice to cozy up by with a glass of wine. We used the kitchen to cook meals and found it to be well stocked. Would love to come back next summer and really enjoy more of the lake. This one is defiantly a keeper. Thanks Jen and Leslie for sharing your place with us.
