Why Amy Swayze chose Cape Cod

Our family has owned the property for more than 50 years. I've spent many days and nights with my uncles in this house. With every visit and in every season, we'd spend time visiting, eating great food, taking all that Provincetown has to offer and of course, reading books.

I have many special memories that have been made in this house with friends and family. I hope that you will also have the opportunity to make your own special memories.

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

We (2 adults, 2 kids) really enjoyed our week long stay at the Bookshop Apartment. It was our first time to Provincetown, and we didn't realize the apartment is right in the heart of downtown. It was super convenient to everything, and we enjoyed looking out the window at passersby down below. The view out the main bedroom to the Pilgrim Monument was great too. The unit had everything we needed--we had a mix of home cooked meals, take out, and dining out--and was very comfortable. There is a lot of activity outside, but we never had any issue with noise. Next time we'll bring our bikes and use the rack out back. If you're staying for a week and have a car, you can get a $50 parking pass from the Provincetown Parking Department for the Jerome Smith parking lot. It's only a 10-minute walk from the apartment and worked out well for us. (There are closer parking options too.) Check-in was a breeze with Juan, and Amy is super responsive in advance with questions, etc. We're looking forward to our next stay!

Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

The Bookshop apartment was more than I could have hoped for. The location was perfect. The energy inside the space was magnificent. The charm was off the charts. I thought it might be noisy due to the location and although you could hear people singing in the bar across the street, all you needed to do was turn on the ac and it created enough subtle white noise to make it a non issue. Juan the handyman was super friendly. All I can say is that it exceeded expectations.

Convenient. Clean. Well appointed for away from home living.

  • 5 of 5

From check in to checking out the hosts were very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and we felt very comfortable in this property. Nice outdoor table, umbrella and barbecue was extra nice. There are bike racks when you rent your bikes which was convenient. Thank you for a great experience in Ptown.

Would happily come back

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice place right in the middle of all the attractions of Provincetown. It is nicely set up, nicely furnished and allowed us comfort and the capacity to prepare meals.

This 200 year old post and beam building is a treasure. It has been remodeled and modernized with loving attention to reusing the wide planks and other appointments of an earlier era.

Sleeping arrangements were comfortable. We were three but six could have been accommodated using the sleeping loft and the sofa.

On arrival we were confused, expecting someone to greet and orient us. The door was open so we let ourselves in and set up housekeeping. Next day we met Juan who told us we were supposed to call him when we arrived. It would have helped us to know that or for the guy in the bookstore to know that. The guy in the bookstore knew nothing about the apartment. Juan found us a key from the key safe. He thought there would be one in a bowl in the living room. There wasn't.

It was cold, wet and rainy during our stay. We would have enjoyed some heat but the heater was turned off. We asked for it to be turned back on and lit. It wasn't.

But for those things I would rate 5 stars.

Owner's Response: Hi Steve, Thank you for your thoughtful and informative review. I apologize for the confusion on check in, during our correspondence I thought for sure I had given you the instructions about reaching out to our property manager. He was expecting you which is why the door was open. I apologize and am glad that my poor communication did not interrupt your stay, you were our first renter of the year so I was obviously not yet on my game. The Provincetown Bookshop is not affiliated in any way with the apartment (though they are a good resource for information on the town)...and Clay who you spoke to is a new employee there. I'm sorry about the heat in the living room, it's an older gas heater and we do not leave the pilot lit year round. I hope the heat in the bedrooms was enough to take the chill away. We would love to have you back and give us an opportunity to "do it right" the first time! ~Amy

Perfect location to ring in the new year

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I travel to Ptown every year to celebrate her birthday (new year's eve). The Bookshop Apartment is situated perfectly to enjoy all of the activities First Light had to offer (and for people-watching on Commercial Street). The apartment is also spacious, well-appointed, and has cool/funky architectural details.

We had some minor issues with heat on our first night, but Amy (the owner) and Juan (the property manager) sprung into action and took care of the problem right away. They were both incredibly responsive and we enjoyed chatting with Juan about the history of the building.

Thank you, Amy and Juan, for a great stay! We hope to be back again next year.
