Beautiful View

  • 4 of 5

Perfect getaway spot for a relaxing time with friends. The cabin was lovely and well maintained. The view was beautiful with a clear shot of Pilot Mountain. We even saw a few dear roaming around. We were able to connect to WiFi but no internet service. It was only an issue due to the couple we were there with needed internet for their business. Overall it was a great experience and we would return again.

Perfect getaway !

  • 5 of 5

This cabin exceeded my expectations ! If you want to treat yourself and family to a warm, cozy beautifully decorated cabin then this is the place for you . The view was breathtaking. The owner was very responsive when I had questions and was very helpful with suggestions as well. The dogs loved the fireplace more than we did I think. This was a perfect weekend away. We will definitely be back.

Lovely cabin with great views

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is beautifully decorated and has awesome daytime and nighttime views! We have stayed in several VRBO properties and I would have to say this cabin had the best stocked kitchen, nice linens and was very clean! Would have been nice if it was a little more secluded but the views make up for that! We saw a lot of wildlife while there even though it was FREEZING outside!!! Would definitely stay again, is probably even nicer in warmer months!

Only issue we had was no cell service or WiFi connection but the point was to get away and we did. Nice place to stay

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice comment. There is WiFi and internet at the house. I am unaware why it would not be working unless it was a weather related issue. Cell phones may or may not work, depending on your service provider. However, there is a land line for your personal use should you need a phone.

Pros and Cons

  • 2 of 5

The cabin itself is nice, but there were definite negatives during our trip. I will just list pros and cons here.

Well equipped kitchen

Views when you could see past a few feet

Room to have privacy

Nice master bath

Very difficult to locate when traveling from out of state. It doesn't GPS and even when you locate the road to turn down the sign is very small. Needs better markers for out of town visitors especially who aren't familiar with the area.

Don't visit in October as the area was extremely foggy and damp. We were limited to certain times of the day when we could travel down the mountain. The porch was wet most of the time making it difficult to enjoy the outdoor seating. I realize there is no control over certain weather conditions, but after asking locals in the area they said the thick fog is a usual occurrence in the area. It would have been nice to know this. We would not have booked a stay in a cabin like this in this area had we known it would have been difficult to enjoy the views we paid for and hard to drive to and from. Some days it didn't let up until 2 in the afternoon.

There is water damage in the corners and on the floor by the bed in the master bedroom as well as on the ceiling from leaks.

There were spider webs with live spiders in them in the bedroom I slept in.

The living room furniture looks nice but is not comfortable as it is old and seems broken down.

The cleaning fees are high especially considering the fact we had to haul all our garbage and linens down to the basement.

The TV in the master bedroom plays the same channels the living room TV plays at the same time.

The bed frame in the master bedroom is too big for the bed making it difficult to get out of the bed without the bar from the frame hitting the back of the legs when getting up.

Overall it served it's purpose for visiting family in the area, but even they had to leave before dark due to thick fog and limited parking.

We left early and went to a hotel for the remainder of our visit. I personally would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: Kristi, I appreciate your review and am concerned about several of your comments. As much as I would like to control the weather, unfortunately that is not possible. When in the mountains, it happens that fog can roll in and out., anytime. However, October is one of the best and most beautiful months to stay in Fancy Gap. ( This year was affected by the hurricane. ) Fog is usually not a problem. Florida is quite different. I take pride in offering my cabin for rent on VRBO in excellent condition.. The exterminator had been there 2 weeks ago, so any insects were under control. A cobweb can form anytime in a log cabin. The sofa had a new cushion last year. There is satillite for TV reception (no cable available) so there is one receiver for both TVS. Most cabins only have one. I believe you mentioned that your Mother, who stayed in the master bedroom, had a walker. I imagine it was difficult for her to get in and out of the bed since she is handicapped. Both the frame and mattress are King size and it has never been suggested as a problem. There are a few pieces of discolored wood in the corner and I am curious as how that affected your stay? An overwatered plant.... I have no knowledge of ceiling leaks, only knots on the wood. I know you were frustrated you could not find the cabin. I sent directions, ( as well as they are listed on VRBO) before your stay. Some GPS work, others do not. After guiding you to the cabin, per your phone call, you recognizezd you had missed the turn. The parking amenities are listed on VRBO and what to do to park 4 cars. Also, I am curious how much you think the cleaning fee should be? Please let me know if you have any other concerns. I am always interested in knowing how I can make things better. Best, Lynette
