Old Town Alexandria Townhome
We had a wonderful stay! We were within walking distance of historic King Street, restaurants, shopping, and the wharf, so no need for a car. We were in town for a wedding and the location and amenities were everything we needed for our family. The home was very clean, and the host was immediately responsive to everything we needed. The location was perfect for touring Washington, DC, a short Uber or metro ride into the city. And, close proximity to Washington Reagan airport was perfect. The multi-levels was wonderfully charming and felt like we were experiencing the historic flavor of the area. We frequently rent vacation homes and agreed this is one of the best we've ever had. We would definitely rent this one again!
Not as presented.
Three well educated, well traveled adults independently looked at the website and found, upon arrival, that the photos did not accurately depict the property.
There was parking space behind the property which was not mentioned. We were instructed, instead, to use a parking lot.
Our rental ran from 4:00 pm on Sunday to 11:00 am on Friday. As we were sitting in the living room, consulting about our route home, your cleaner knocked on the door and told us she had to come in and start cleaning, that there was a “turn-around.”
We’ve rented from owners successfully in the past, with communication directly with the owners. This was not a pleasant experience. We will not refer friends to Vrbo.
Dorothy, thank you for your review. This homeowner reached out to you by voicemail after check-in and followed-up by email the next day to see how the stay was going and if you were satisfied with the property. They did not hear back from you, so they assumed everything was going well. We do clearly state in the pre-stay email, which is delivered to all guests 15 days prior to check-in, that parking is not available on the property for guests. The parking space behind the property is for residents only and not allowed for rentals. We also state in this same pre-stay communication that check-out time is at 10 am. The cleaner knocked on the door at 10:15 am and you stated you were not ready. She gave you 15 more minutes and at 10:30 am, informed you there was another guest checking in that day, and she would at least like to start the laundry so the home would be clean and ready for the next check-in. These policies are in place to ensure every renter arrives to a sparkling home and can have an enjoyable stay. Best, the Evolve Team
Catfished by this property
I want to start this review by stating that I am not a fussy renter. I work in the short term rental business in Hilton Head, SC so I am usually the property manager trying to put out fires at 8 different properties. With that being said, I was shocked that we spent 3 nights in a home with ants. I informed the property manager on Friday morning of our issues with the ants and nothing was done. I understand she needed confirmation about the keys via email but we had communicated via phone prior and I was on vacation which meant I was checking my email far less in an effort to be in the moment. I had communicated our full schedule to her on the phone Friday morning, but even a can of Raid would've helped! I was killing the ants with glass cleaner that I found.
Our overall impression of this house was we couldn't wait to leave and return home. Besides the fact that the entire bottom area (kitchen and living room) were infested with ants, the beds were so uncomfortable we were all taking turns sleeping on the couch. The sentence: " Once you've rinsed off, retire to the cloud-like comfort of the king-sized four-poster bed" makes me almost laugh because the beds were far from this! One of the bedrooms didn't even have window dressings so there were no blinds or curtains! The upstairs bedrooms are obviously not meant for adults to actually enjoy themselves. It is so hot up there and the beds are so uncomfortable it has to be a joke. Also there were no linens for the pullout couch so we had to share pillows from upstairs.
The group I was traveling with are all 25-32 years old and those STAIRS?!?! Wow! Those are not what we considered stairs. We are all relatively active as well, but we referred to going to our room from the kitchen as climbing Mt. Everest. Even my friends who are from DC were shocked at the lack of width and handrails in the stairwells. All in all I am just happy that DC was an amazing town and the vineyards were lovely otherwise it would've been a tough weekend!
Also, you might want to put up a sign on the extra bedroom on the 2nd floor that it is owners storage. When we arrived Thursday night that room was giving us all scary thoughts. We thought we were sharing the property with someone else.
I hate giving a property such a low rating but honestly the only positive of the place is the location to old town Alexandria.
MaryBeth, we're sorry to hear certain aspects of your stay fell short. We've shared your comments with the homeowner and property manager. We understand that they did everything they could to resolve the issue you encountered as soon as they were notified. The property manager let us know they reached out twice via email and once via voicemail to schedule an exterminator. Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication between the property manager and you, they weren't able to have an exterminator come until after your check-out. The property has been thoroughly inspected and the exterminator can confirm this was an isolated incident in the kitchen. This has since been resolved and we can assure future guests this situation will not recur. We apologize that the stairs caught you off guard, but we do note in the listing that there are three flights of stairs in the townhome. As evident in past reviews, the owner and property manager regularly provide five-star experiences and we are confident this townhome will continue to host satisfied guests! Best, the Evolve Team
This home and its location were perfect for our month long stay in the Washington DC and Virginia. It’s proximity to restaurants, shops, King Street Trollery and the Metro station enabled us to enjoy each day of our sightseeing.
A lovely restored home in a great location!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely restored home! The location was perfect, close to shops and with the King Street Trolley, a very easy access to the wharf and the Metro for sight seeing in DC. Michelle was very gracious and responsive. We enjoyed the lovely courtyard and the home’s amenities. The restored master bedroom and bath was very comfortable. Please note that parking is not provided but there are lots close by for rental spaces. The steps could be a challenge for elderly or very young children who are sleeping on the fourth floor.
Charming property in a perfect location
This is a lovely property -- warm and welcoming. The multiple levels can be a challenge, especially if visiting with grandparents and small children.
