Exceeds Expectations, Insane value, best trip ever

I cannot say enough about how helpful, friendly, and hospitable the family Brekke(all members encountered) were to my friend and I. Heidi is a superb host and as down to earth as a landlady could be. The owner's even had their mother open the local shop after hours on our arrival so that I could buy my groceries for the week. The cabin(hytte) defines cozy and views from the dining windows would cost a fortune anywhere else. If nature and the outdoors are your close companions then you've stumbled upon some of their greatest performances in Ortnevik. There are not enough stars for the rating this little gem deserves.

Great Cabin Experience

  • 5 of 5

We (4 of us) stayed in the wood cabin and it was really great. Exactly what we were looking for. The owner met us at the beginning and allowed us to do our own thing after that. We booked the hot tub and I would really recommend that you strongly consider doing this if you are going to stay here. Overall a great experience

Absolute heaven. Do not pass this up!

  • 5 of 5

THIS is where you need to go to reconnect with those you love and with nature. You will not believe the beauty of this place. Mind-blowing. You'll think you walked into the set of a fairytale. Well worth the drive from Bergen. The drive itself is beautiful! Owners are very kind and helpful. Our 2.5 year old loved all of the exploring we did not to mention the incredible wood carvings placed throughout the property. We can't wait to go back!

The stone cabin was my home for almost 10 days and I cannot wait to return. The cabin was comfortable and cozy and had everything I needed. And it was adorable. My hosts, Eldar and Hannah, Eldar's parents Christi and Anders, and children Anna and Leo went completely out of their way to make me feel at home and helped me a lot with transportation as I had no car. I arrived by fast boat from Bergen and ferry from Nordeide and returned the same way. Ortnevik has a shop for supplies near the quai, and Hoyander and Vik are short ferry rides away. I am 70 years old and have a bad knee, but I was still able to walk back and forth to the shop and to explore the area on foot. The only downside was that it rained every day while I was there, so photo taking was not very successful. I am already trying to figure out how soon I can return.

Simply Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful 5 night stay in the stone cabin during the Easter holidays and my only complaint is that it was not long enough - we had such an amazing time and the area is so beautiful I only wish we could have stayed a whole lot longer.

We arrived in Ortnevik by rental car from Bergen and made the mistake of blindly following Google Maps which took us off the E39 and up a mountain pass. This route is much shorter and I'm sure is very beautiful in the summer but was not much fun when we encountered heavy snow near the top.. suddenly finding yourself in 3" of snow on a narrow, winding mountain pass is not a good moment to discover that the snow tyres promised by the rental company had not been fitted but it certainly made the journey more exciting!

The cabin itself is small but perfectly formed. It's clean, warm and cosy, well equipped, comfortable and most importantly surrounded by the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery. Eldar is really friendly and helpful. If there's anything you need that isn't already in the cabin you just have to ask, he even let us raid his enormous DVD collection one evening.

Our 5 year old son absolutely loved it here - going off exploring the forested hillside behind the cabin, playing down by the water's edge, taking the rowing boat out on the fjord, trying his hand at fishing and playing with Eldar's cute friendly cats.

Knowing how expensive food and drink can be in Norway we took most of our supplies with us which worked out really well however we did visit the village shop a couple of times and were impressed by the range of goods and the quality of the fresh fruit and vegetables

Brekke cabins: an unforgettable place

  • 5 of 5

Me and my wife spent 3 nights in the Big Cabin and it was the best time during our 3 week long Scandinavian tour. The house is spacious, clean, properly equipped but the most important is the location, the panorama, the atmosphere. The owners were very friendly and helpful to us. We can recommend this place to those who don't mind the self-catering and want to spend some quite time at a wonderful place.
