About Gary & Rosemary Reed
Rosemary's Grandparents had a cabin at Kohl's Ranch in the 1950's, and enjoyed her childhood summers here. She introduced Gary to Kohls Ranch and we bought our first cabin here in 1985. Our family loves to fish, catch crawdads (crayfish), and hike the many trails. Downstream a bit are swimming holes we love to swim and picnic at.
Gary & Rosemary Reed purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Gary & Rosemary Reed chose Payson
When we bought this cabin in 2011 it was truly a 1950's fishing cabin. We lived here full time for 4 years and upgraded it to a year-round home. We added Air-Conditioning and Forced Air Heating. We updated the kitchen and added an indoor washer and dryer. We moved to the Town of Payson to be closer to work, but we just can't part with our cabin. We love hearing about how our guests enjoy our little cabin on the creek!

Nice Property and Great Location
This cabin is located right on the Tonto Creek near the Kohls Ranch. It has a large fenced in yard that was perfect for our small dog. The cabin was stocked well with utensils, pots and pans and more.
As a small family we felt this cabin was perfect in size and we felt very comfortable. The kids loved the bunk beds.
Owners respond quickly and answered all our questions. Thanks again!
Fun property with a wonderful back yard that led to the the creek
The cabin was well appointed for its size and layout. We enjoyed the back yard deck and pathway to the creek. The owners were pleasant and easy to communicate with. This cabin was well maintained and orderly. (Several of the cabins in the neighborhood were not.) We enjoyed our visit and would look forward to returning.
A gem in the woods!
First of all the road towards the cabin took my breath away I'm a sucker for fall colors and it was just beautiful, the cabin was just what we expected, I noticed how clean it was and that's a huge plus for me, we had dinner at Diamond point steakhouse which we passed on the way and absolutely loved it. The next day we drove to Bashas in town and purchased groceries we fired up the grill that afternoon after a hike across the creek that was in a map left in the guidebookn, although we did not catch any fish we fed the blue Jays and squirrel the peanuts left by the Reed's our 7yo boy loved it and our baby girl seemed to enjoy it as much too! My husband and I enjoyed some wine that we brought from home at the bar while listening to 80's music on the Direct TV music channel. We love payson and this is not the first cabin we have visited but it just made our top favorites list. Yes there are some spider webs but it's in the woods what do you expect? we saw hundreds of spiders on our hike. Don't leave any food out because just as expected I left a hostess pie on the counter overnight and sure enough I found the box with holes again very normal we have stayed in cabins were the sound of a mice caught in traps have woken us this does not mean the owners are not clean it just means your in the woods and wildlife can make their way in. We will be back in the summer to enjoy the creek more as this time of year the water was very cold. Thank you we would give this cabin a 10 star rating if possible!
Great secluded getaway
Let me tell you this cabin is a gem! Tucked back on a private road with Tonto Creek running in its backyard. Yes, there is no WiFi but honestly I didn’t miss it! The scenery is beautiful and with the surrounding fishing holes and hikes, you can do so much. The cabin is stocked with games, sheets & extra blankets, towels... the kitchen has everything you would need to cook lovely dinners as well. My boys, ages 13 & 11 enjoyed feeding the squirrels and blue jays with the peanuts that Rosemary and Gary left for us during our stay. The frontyard was big enough for them to play catch. Our dog even enjoyed exploring the frontyard and backyard. My boys caught crawfish from day 1. They even woke up early the next day in hopes to catch some trout! So thank you for the fishing poles and bait, we really took advantage of that. Yes there are neighbors on each side, but would never know.
I have to say Rosemary and Gary really got it right with this cabin. Its well taken care of and very clean. You can tell they put a lot of thought into this cabin. We felt right at home and my family and I will definitely be back.
it's all about the location
the biggest win for this rental was the location. house backs up to national forest land with a creek just a few steps down. yes, there are neighbors on either side and across the road, but you wouldn't know it! it was very quiet and from the back deck you can't see anyone else. we caught 8 crawfish on the fishing pole within minutes right by the house. any hiking or time playing in the woods, you'll have to cross the cold creek so bring water shoes.
owners were very friendly and responsive to all messages. nice little gestures like leaving us peanuts to feed the wildlife. we had blue jays and squirrels come right up on the deck. signs of elk too but didn't see any while we were there.
no wifi or cell service in the house. very faint cell service if you go outside and wander around looking for it (try the swing in the front yard).
most electrical outlets are 2 prong so don't bring a 3 prong extension cord like i did.
house itself was decent and clean. decor was outdated and the bunkbed bedroom is very small. but kitchen is well stocked. wood burning fireplace was great too.
overall a really great place. will stay here again!
Absolutely loved our stay at the cabin! It overlooks the creek and we could hear the water. We fed the birds and squirrels. It was super cute and cozy. The owners were very responsive to our questions and were great to work with. We plan to go back as soon as possible!
