About Gary & Rosemary Reed

Rosemary's Grandparents had a cabin at Kohl's Ranch in the 1950's, and enjoyed her childhood summers here. She introduced Gary to Kohls Ranch and we bought our first cabin here in 1985. Our family loves to fish, catch crawdads (crayfish), and hike the many trails. Downstream a bit are swimming holes we love to swim and picnic at.

Gary & Rosemary Reed purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Gary & Rosemary Reed chose Payson

When we bought this cabin in 2011 it was truly a 1950's fishing cabin. We lived here full time for 4 years and upgraded it to a year-round home. We added Air-Conditioning and Forced Air Heating. We updated the kitchen and added an indoor washer and dryer. We moved to the Town of Payson to be closer to work, but we just can't part with our cabin. We love hearing about how our guests enjoy our little cabin on the creek!

Just bring your groceries!

This was a quick beautiful relaxing get away from the Valley of the Sun. The cabin seems nicely remodeled, has a kitchen with all the tools you could need. My family of 4 slept comfortably on the beds ( kids 9 and 11 loved the bunk room). We enjoyed the fireplace, lovely deck, even in the rain and the comfortable giant chairs in front of a nice sized flat screen with cable to watch Monday Night Football! We fished right outside the back door, hiked and saw a waterfall, and ate apples off the tree in the front yard. The walk up to Kohls Ranch was nice, we didn't eat at restaurant but if your looking for a break from cookig they seemed to have nice options. A little further on our walk we found the stables and had a nice 1hour horseback ride through this beautiful portion of Tonto National Forest. We love it when we can pick up groceries and park the car. But you could easily tour other near by sites ( like Tonto Bridge, Woods Canyon Lake, Payson etc) These owners were terrific to work with and we will definitely be going back. I hate to give 5 stars because I want it to be my families secret get away, but that would be unfair. Don't hesitate, chose this place it was awesome!

A great way to get away from the city.

  • 4 of 5

The layout was perfect, the access to the creek was beautiful, the neighbors sweet. Only thing we would suggest is wifi and a DVD player.

Beautiful and quiet

  • 5 of 5

My husband and a I are relocating and we are living apart right now. He flew down to Arizona for the weekend and we rented this cabin. We LOVED it! So peaceful, very welcoming, and they provide you fishing poles and bait!! We have already told all our friend about it and they are excited to come up and visit our new home in Payson that we found when we stayed here!!! Thank you.

A hidden gem for sure!!!

  • 5 of 5

The Reed’s cabin was amazing! 5 stars all the way, not a 5 star resort for the rich and famous but a 5 star cabin if you want to get away and be in the cool mountains of Arizona. It has all amenities you need. We have been traveling for over 40 years and this is now one of our top ten places to go relax and unplug. A hidden gem for sure!!!
