What was once a historical beach cottage has been transformed into a classy and upscale modern marvel - completely rebuilt and re-styled from top to bottom in 2011.

The historic heritage of the original home shines through in many of the details, while the updates also incorporate the finest-quality materials and workmanship. Exquisite custom fixtures and luxurious state-of-the-art modern conveniences can be found throughout, along with elegant designer furnishings and accessories. Designed around a unique multi-level floor plan, this charming vacation cottage offers 4 bedrooms, plus a den, a computer room/office, upstairs living and dining areas, and 2-1/4 bathrooms. An inviting balcony off the upper floor's main living room provides a comfortable outdoor dining & barbecue area for family meals.

The Craftsman-style Bungalow is an impressive 1,800 square feet and presents an elegant beach hideaway boasting imported stone, tile and granite as well as rich wood moldings and exceptional details: splendid accommodations for a family group of 12! Clean, comfortable, and close to the beach!

  • 4 of 5

The propriety was great. We stayed for a week during the Christmas holiday. The house was clean and had all the amenities as described in the listing. The common areas are spacious and the kitchen was big enough to cook a number of large meals together. The beach is super close and access to the house is a breeze. A couple things to note: during this time in the winter it was much colder in the lower level of the house where most of the bedrooms are located. Turning the heat up helped, but it also made the upstairs level much warmer to where it was too hot. Trying to find a balance was a challenge. The bedroom situation downstairs gets a little tiresome as you have to walk through another bedroom or a bathroom to exit. Only having two bathrooms was a bit of a challenge, but overall not as bad as I expected it to be. For a large group, it isn’t a bad spot to be!

Great location and management company

  • 4 of 5

Just 5 houses from the beach, location couldn't be beat. We were here on a family trip, so the rooms were fine, but note that the downstairs rooms are interconnected, and one of the rooms can only be reached by walking through other rooms (or bathroom). Kitchen is well-appointed and appliances work great. If you have elderly folks along, or handicapped, note that kitchen, dining and main living areas are upstairs. Management company was very responsive and fixed the dining room lights that weren't working. Note that the parking is VERY tight -- we had two cars, and backing into the spot can be a challenge since garage facing this one had a large car protruding from it, which limited our turning radius. Honda Pilot got through the garage with 1/4 inch on each side to spare; Toyota Prius had more room and fit comfortably (though we had to exit the car before backing in). Overall, good stay and location can't be beat.

It was great!

  • 4 of 5

We all had a fantastic time. It was the perfect distance from the beach, and there was plenty of room for all of us. The beds were comfortable, and there was everything we needed in the kitchen. It was the perfect spot. The only problem we had was maneuvering through the tight space in the back street to pull into the garage. Overall, though, we really enjoyed it.

Beautiful interior and great location....But...

  • 3 of 5

First, the positives. The location is great! Just 4 houses away from the beach! Secondly, this unit appears to have been remodeled within the last few years and they really did a beautiful job on the interior! Every room was very beautifully appointed in decor and function. The kitchen was great too. Although the fridge never made ice. The bedding and furniture were very nice!! The negatives are that it's extremely boxy inside. There are lots of little spaces which made it not a great option for our group (11 people) because we couldn't all be in one room at the same time. Although there are 4 beautiful bedrooms, some are almost claustrophobic small... There is a long set of stairs that presented a challenge for toddlers. The "safety" gate was very flimsy and could not be secured at the top of the stairs. The arrangement of rooms is unusual because the kitchen, dining room and main living space is upstairs. The balcony is VERY slanted too. To the point that we actually called to see if it was safe for all of us to be on it at once. Everyone commented on the slope feeling kind of unsafe. The rental agency assured us it was safe. There were a few little glitches but the rental company was very responsive, which we appreciated. Although the downstairs overhead fan never did work, and the handyman couldn't get it to work either. There is no A/C in the unit (as stated) and it does get hot. Everyone in the downstairs bedrooms said it was very hot at night. Even with table top fans. What is not pictured is that when you are sitting on the balcony, you are surrounded by concrete buildings.. Completely surrounded. Not a deal breaker, but it was odd to be eating out there, surrounded on all sides by other close buildings. The parking is MUCH tighter than you'd expect. Small cars (Prius) would do ok. But a mini van or SUV was so tight to pull through, you literally have a few inches on either side. So passengers need to get out before you pull in , and you need to pull in your side mirrors in order to pull in. Parking is awful to find on the street. One guest got an $80 parking ticket for back tires being inches over the red curb. While the unit is beautiful and in a good location, but it wasn't a good fit for our family. I wish I would've known about some of the negatives before I rented it. But the Beach View Realty company was very good to work with. I give them 5 stars. But if we rent another beach house at Newport, I'd select a different property.
