Great Ski Experience
We enjoyed our stay at the Modern Chalet! Plenty of room for 4 families and a well stocked kitchen. I would definitely choose to stay again!
Melissa and DeeDee, I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I am sure you appreciated all of the extra support we were able to provide for you, the multiple phone calls with us leading up to your stay, including advice on traveling here, places to dine out to eat, and what runs were best to ski, helping you to plan a promposal during your stay, even including adjusting your rental dates with no penalty after you were unable to travel the original dates. We even handled shoveling paths for ski-in and ski-out access, and arranged for the cleaning people to clean a day earlier so that you could come directly to the house a day earlier than planned. I am sure you could not have had a better experience or more accommodating host.
The modern chalet never disappoints! This was our 4th time staying here and was just as great as the prior visits. The location, the views, the ambiance of the chalet...all great!
We had 4 families travel together and had plenty of room.
The owners were great to work with; very responsive and accommodating.
Great view and house
Overall the house is very nice. several items do need work.
Thank you for staying at our Modern Chalet. The small items you brought to our attention have all been addressed. Thank you so much and we hope you stay again!
Very nice home
No problems with the home. It was fantastic. Our only problem is that we got there too late in the year to ski in ski out... the adjacent run was closed. Hot tub was really nice at the end of a long day of skiing.
Wondergful View! Very Accomodating Hosts!
We had 6 adults and 7 kids for our week long stay and everything was wonderful! House has lots of room in the multiple living areas that are tastefully appointed and comfortable for our crew to lounge in and around.
We had plenty of seasoned wood, starting and maintaining fire was easy and perfect for cold winter weather. The beds were extremely comfortable and linens were perfect for the climate.
We were fortunate enough to have fresh snow almost every day we were there! The drive and a fair amount of the deck was plowed and shoveled prior to arrival, which was nice. There is a mountain bike trail that you can utilize to ski in, if the Texas Flats run is closed, but you have to be somewhat creative about it. Having grown up with houses in Angel Fire, my brother and I were old pro’s at the improvisation.
Owning multiple houses myself and being the cookie of the group, the kitchen and equipment therein leave nothing to be desired.
Owners are very accommodating and if there is anything you need that they haven’t provided information about I would be greatly surprised.
Thank you for the awesome time, memories, rekindling the past ones but most of all sharing your beautiful home with my family!
Great layout for many families
There were 23 of us, 5 families. The house is spacious and had plenty of spots for everyone. The younger kids loved the bunks, the older girls took the office and loved the space, but it was freezing the entire time. Windows in house are not insulated well and even with a fire going all day every day the house was rarely above 60 degrees. One morning it was 52 and the windows had ice on the inside. However the radiant heat on the floors is very nice.
Kitchen is stocked well with all appliances, plates, bowls, cooking pots and pans. There were lots of Ziploc bags, aluminum foil and those odds and ends you forget to pack! fridge is a great size and clean up is easy with the stainless counters.
We had the worst snow in 60 years so it was not ski in/out because Texas Flats was covered in rocks and tall grass. We had to hike down to where the trail connects to Heading home, or often we just drove to Panorama way to park and catch the run there.
Recommended improvements would be more toilet paper...we had to buy 2x's....3 rolls in each bathroom is not enough for the amount of people the house accommodates. We also ran out of dish soap. The furniture although pretty is very uncomfortable to visit/lounge in. Beds were all comfortable and sheets soft, but pillows are flat. Fireplace needs better tools and a log splitter of some sort would be nice. All logs were big so hard to get started. Possible small space heaters available to help with the heat?
All in all we really enjoyed the place - we had deer everyday which the kids and adults all loved. Plenty of space to get away for quiet time if needed.
While I am glad to hear you enjoyed the house, I am disappointed that you only gave us a three star review for conditions which we cannot control, such as low snowfall that has not been experienced in over 60 years. Our house is at 10,000 feet, at the top of the mountain, in January. The radiant heating keeps the house comfortable, but is meant to be supplemented by a fire in winter. The house information document describes the fireplaces on each level of the home and makes clear that if you are not proficient starting fires, then you should purchase a starter log, which are available at the grocery store in town. I am surprised to hear your complaint about toilet paper. While the housing documents also clarify that we do not provide groceries or paper goods, we do provide three rolls in each of the 5 bathrooms. We have not received complaints about anyone else going through 15 rolls in such a short stay.
The pillows in the house were all purchased new in 2017, and while all our personal guests and we ourselves have been happy with them, we will reassess their condition to make sure they are still satisfactory.
