About Chip and Linda Babb

Linda and Chip are both artists, and the barn on the property was used as a studio for years. Their daughter did horsey stuff from age 12 to 18, hence the horse stalls and tack room on the property.

Chip was born and raised in New Mexico, Linda is a Glendale, California transplant (Chip took her away from all that...).

Chip and Linda Babb purchased this house in 1991

Why Chip and Linda Babb chose Corrales

Corrales is just a lovely little village (population 8K). Listed as one of the "Top 25 Small Towns". There are galleries and restaurants, horse ranches, orchards and farms. It's just far away enough from Albuquerque to be rural, but close enough if you need a big shopping mall (Cottonwood Mall), movie theaters or Sprouts!. The house is also only about 15 minutes from the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta park, and starting in September through October there are frequent hot air balloons flying overhead.

From the house you can get to the Rio Grande in a few minutes and stroll, run or bike along the "Acequia Madre" (mother ditch) or through the "Bosque" (wooded area next to the river), or head to the Sandia mountains for hiking, skiing or mountain biking in about 20 minutes. Santa Fe is less than an hour away, and makes a good day trip.

Note: Wagner lane is a dirt road next to a working farm. When/if we get significant rain, there will be puddles in the road, but nothing that a normal car cannot negotiate.

What makes this house unique

You're right next to a working farm! During summer months, Wagner Farms is 1/2 block West of the house, where you can buy fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes, string beans, green chile, apples, etc.

In the Fall you'll smell the Green Chile roasting - what we like to call "Corrales Aroma Therapy". In winter, the scent of Piñon smoke in the air throughout the Village is magical...

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dan and his wife were the perfect guests, and left the house spotless. They are welcome back anytime.

They were having difficulties posting their review, so they emailed it to us directly:

Hi. I have been trying to get my comments to go through on the VRBO site. I have filled it out three times now and nothing happens. We enjoyed your house very much - you too - so I gave it a 5 star rating. I am sending you what I wrote: I hope this helps.

Rating: 5 stars

Title of your review

The house is both an interesting and welcoming Southwest style.

Your experience:

The house was large, immaculate, and still cozy with two fireplaces and a pellet stove. The wifi was trouble free and easy to log on. The owners had labeled the kitchen doors and drawers so that it was easy to find things. They had stocked some basics which was much appreciated.

The owners were great - helpful, friendly, but not at all intrusive. We enjoyed the whole experience.

Charming and relaxing home.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Corrales almost a month and enjoyed our stay in this beautiful adobe home. Chip and Linda are great hosts and saw that our needs were met during our stay. This is a great home, private, in a country setting, but very convenient to Cottonwood Mall, grocery stores, etc. We have traveled to this area several times over the last 15 years and have stayed in several places, but this home has been the best yet. If you want a large, comfortable place to stay, I recommend Chip and Linda's home.

Awesome house!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of renting this home for two weeks and everything was wonderful. The house is very large, tastefully decorated and has everything you would need and more. The location gives you a feel of privacy and yet it is just a few minutes away from shopping and great restaurants. We are two couples in our middle 60's who enjoy golfing and we found several nice courses close to our location. Thank you Linda, Chip and Mike for the welcome basket and sharing your lovely home with us. We would highly recommend the rental of this house. You will not be disappointed!

Owner's Response: Thanks Martha - enjoyed having your group at the house! At least the weather cooperated for a good portion of your stay - always a little "iffy" in spring in NM. And I'm sure the golfers liked the fact that their drives traveled about 20% further at our altitude! Hope to see you again soon... Chip & Linda

Corrales Gem

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Albuquerque, New Mexico the month of March. This home located it the town of Corrales along the Rio Grand river was amazing. We were only minutes away from shopping and a number of great local restaurants yet the home was located in a private setting. We would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking for a great place to stay with a great location. Chip and Linda Babb were great host and were there to answer any questions we had about the house and area. When we arrived they even stocked the refrigerator with items along with some great bakery goodies. If we decide to visit Albuquerque again next year we will most certainly try to rent this home again!

Beautiful, spacious, and 100% free of scorpions!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a month in January 2018 as we traveled south for the winter.

Family of 2 adults & 2 kids. I spent about a week alone to write a book.

The ONE THING my 7yo wanted while in New Mexico was to NOT run into a scorpion. I can satisfactorily report that this property is free of scorpions! ;)

WHAT WE LIKED:

1) Plenty of room to spread out.

2) Large yard and room for the kids to run around or have friends over.

3) The property is gated, and I could relax about the kids staying out of the road.

4) Kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry were well-stocked. We even found extra folding tables to set up a daughter's travel piano and set up our homeschool in a separate room.

5) Skylights throughout the house helped keep things bright.

6) The hosts are super responsive and really gracious!

7) The bathtubs are huge and perfect for soaking. We used these 2-3 times a week.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROPERTY BEFOREHAND:

1) The furnace is in the wall between two of the bedrooms and it is VERY LOUD when it kicks on. It took a couple nights for my daughters to sleep through the noise.

2) This property uses well water so there was the occasional scent and care associated with that.

3) Part of the house is heated by central heat. The other rooms have either a wood fireplace or a wood pellet stove. I learned with a few attempts and the help of YouTube how to build a fireplace fire and got pretty good at getting a great fire going in 2 minutes or less! The kids learned how to collect the right sizes of wood. The wood pellet furnace was so simple and fun to use my kids would argue over who got to help Mommy start it.

OVERALL

We had a fantastic time here! We were greeted by Chip and a lovely assortment of snacks we really appreciated. We used our time here to get to know the people at the Corrales Library just a few minutes away, eat yummy pizza at Village Pizza down the road, find petroglyphs and run into jackrabbits at Piedras Marcadas, travel to Santa Fe and climb into ancient pueblo cliff dwellings at Bandelier Monument, visit the international hot air balloon museum with newfound friends, and walk through the bosque just a street over from this house.

During our stay, we enjoyed seeing roadrunners on the property, a rabbit that hung out in the yard, and cows in the neighboring property for about 1/2 the time we were there. We all had a good time and are very grateful to the hosts Chip and Linda.

Best of all -- according to my kid -- NO SCORPIONS!
