Pool / Spa
Completely perfect, exactly what we needed. Secluded, beautiful location down a winding road through the woods. The pool was lovely, the sunsets over the water stunning and the stargazing superb. The house was great, well appointed and comfortable. Wonderful summer memories made that the kids (and the adults!) will remember for a long time to come.
Trails End was the perfect place for our family vacation.
This house, grounds and pool were perfect for our party of 5 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 9. Trails End is in a stunning location with views over the river estuary and having our own pool was ideal for the children. We took country walks, visited the beautiful local towns and barbequed in the evenings. The house is decorated in a warm, attractive style and the kitchen was well-equipped. Bathrooms were well-appointed with excellent showers and the whole place really felt like a home away from home. The bedrooms upstairs were cool but the lack of downstairs air conditioning meant that the very hot week we encountered was a little uncomfortable at first but we got to grips with using the fans which helped. We would have appreciated the supply of a hairdryer but overall the week was a complete success and we would definitely come back again.
Your private Maine paradise
Trails end farm house became our piece of paradise for a week.
It starts from the very beginning, when you drive up to the house from the dirt road ending in the small white bridge leading to the farm house entrance with the old red barn and the beautiful landscape around it. The house is situated beautifully on a hill with spectacular views over the river and the field in front of it. The house itself is fully renovated with true care to details, keeping the charm of the original character at the same time upgraded with high end finishes and decorated with such great taste. The kitchen was an amateur cooks' dream and the bedrooms and bathrooms left you feeling like you've checked into a high end hotel. We were four adults and two children the age of 2 and 5 that stayed here for a week and the house offered something for everyone. The kids together with my husband spent endless of hours in the pool with the same beautiful view. Me personally I spent hours in the sun chairs perfectly placed overlooking the river reading my book and finding complete serenity. In the afternoons we took smaller tours to the picturesque villages close by to buy food at the local butcher and fisherman and searched the many antique stores for our next finds. We also went to the local brewery Oxbow and the recently opened Split Rock distillery which were just fantastic. The owner Peter has been more than helpful both before and during our stay.
I truly recommend this house it was true value for money. It will be your secluded paradise in Maine.
Being familiar with the Boothbay region, we choose Trails End because of it's central location (Boothbay, Wiscasset, Damariscotta) combined with, what we hoped would be, a real sense of privacy. We were not disappointed. It didn't hurt that my wife and I have stayed happily at the owner's other smaller property several times over the years.
After driving down a forested private road our group (8 adults of a certain age) crossed a wooden bridge to arrive at Trails End where we were met by the property's owner, Peter. He could not have been more accommodating, showing us around the just remodeled property before leaving us to get on with our vacation.
Peter is a contractor and did the work on this beautifully restored farmstead himself and it shows in all the right places. The open plan great room which includes the kitchen, dining area and a large seating area has views stretching down the meadow, all the way to the Sheepscot River ( more on that later).
My wife has cooked professionally for 30 years and some of the rest of us are no slouches in the kitchen. Let me tell you that starting with the 36" gas stove, island, and multiple prep areas (two separate sinks!), cooking for a group was a joy. I can't really recall any kitchen essential that was missing.
The downstairs also has a separate living room with another TV and a truly imposing stone fireplace. Lovely art adorns the walls throughout.
We drew cards for bedrooms and although someone else got the incredible balconied master, none of the rest of us felt slighted in the least. The rooms were all charming with a mix of antiques and brightly colored furnishings. The brand new bathrooms were perfect.
With many acres to wander and water on three sides, Trail's End was an outdoorsman's paradise. We brought our own kayaks and a couple of paddle boards, so the dock was perfect for us. The Sheepscot offers great exploring possibilities for self powered boats. There was also a charming, rustically furnished cabin by the water where we had cocktails.
I don't want to forget mentioning the pool where we ended up every afternoon ( and a couple of evenings). How many places in Maine have a HEATED pool?
We loved this place and hope to return again.
