It is not surprising when you put a terrific home together with simply spectacular views & amenities, and an existing 5 year history as a private vacation rental home. As for Vali Hi, this private timber cabin is located inside a private, 150 acre development called Fairview Forest, at the top of the mountainside. Only 18 minutes outside of downtown Asheville, less than 20 minutes to the gates of Biltmore Estate. 25 minutes to Asheville Regional airport, and 35 minutes to Hendersonville. You are also an easy 25 minutes from Chimney Rock, and only 30+ minutes to Lake Lure.

It is VERY easy to access the home, via only paved roads. The home affords year round access, does NOT require 4-wheel drive*, and is NOT off any steep rural mountain roads. (The roads are 2-lane, fully maintained, paved roads.) The home is situated on 150+ acres of mountain neighborhood property, affording private places to play & explore, take a hike, and everyone to relax & enjoy the unreal views. The driveway has an incline approach to the home, so in the Winter please exercise caution with potential ice*.

* - during snow and/or ice events, 4-Wheel Drive would be required to access home via the neighborhood mountain roads.

Get ready to be “wowed” by this 1,260 sq. ft. spectacular modern, timber frame/log, contemporary mountain style retreat cabin. With soaring vistas, high ceilings, vaulted spaces, and hard wood floors, you will immediately feel at home at Vali Hi. (That is of course if you can tear yourself away from the views & soaking in the spectacle of the Blue Ridge Mountains, & actually venture inside!) The great room, with stone fireplace, and fully equipped kitchen, is where everyone will want to gather to enjoy their time together inside the house. But, if you need some “alone time”, there is plenty of space inside and out to find your own serenity. There are 3 outside porches, decks, and patios for ultimate outdoor relaxation.

The expansive decks are just off the Kitchen/Great room & out the side door, and off the lower terrace level. All of these afford additional outdoor space to relax & unwind. While everyone enjoys the outdoor decks & patio, you can pull up a chair and take in the view, (the long range views are spectacular!!), observe the night as it fills with stars, and watch the fire flies come out to play in your backyard.

Vali Hi has absolutely amazing sunset views as well as near and far distance views. The hardwood forest provides for amazing fall foliage viewing! There is an abundance of wildlife roaming around the area which can be heard and seen. We found this to be very appealing. The house itself is amazing... classic log cabin with cathedral ceilings with beams, a stacked stone fireplace, gourmet kitchen. The 3 full bathrooms was also very appealing so that we could vacation with friends & family as well.

The private development of fairview forest has no light pollution so at night you can see so many stars, it's incredible! No visible neighbors, it's like owning your own private mountain! We had just an awesome time during our stay! The place is beautiful and not too far from AVL. The place was so nice we really hated leaving. Would definitely plan on a return trip in the summer.

Great weekend with friends

I would’ve given 5 stars but in the property description it says no 4 wheel drive required. The house is at almost the top of the mountain up very steep roads and driveway. We would not have made it if we had had snow or ice. The altitude provided a beautiful view but perhaps a better description re: access would be helpful. Otherwise, we had a great weekend with friends!

Owner's Response: Obviously we think this is a 5-Star cabin, and in reality, so do these guests. It is unfortunate that a perceived lack of verbiage would take a home from 5-Stars to anything less(?). This was clearly a 5-Star stay. Even more unfortunate is the fact that we do address this on all listing platforms, but specifically VRBO/HomeAway, with clear language. Quoting from the listing: "It is VERY easy to access the home, via only paved roads. The home affords year round access, does NOT require 4-wheel drive*, and is NOT off any steep rural mountain roads. (The roads are 2-lane, fully maintained, paved roads.) The other reality is that Asheville does not historically, (last 20 years), receive very much snow, and in 2016 & 2017 respectively, there were 358 & 360 days when access to Vali Hi was NOT an issue in any way, shape or form. We appreciate the feedback, and love that these folks had a 5-Star stay, and that there was no snow or anything else to make it anything less. And for future guests, the home is easily accessible, and on the off-chance you have issues, Yonder is here to help and make sure you can get to the cabin and enjoy your stay!

Nice cabin, good service, winter warning

Had a good time here. Yonder was good to work with-accommodated an early check-in and were quick to respond to our questions. The cabin fit our family of 2 adults and 3 kids comfortably. The heat worked well! My only critique is the description could be a little more clear on the access in the winter. Although the road is paved, its a 2 mile drive up the mountain, which can be tricky in the winter. We encountered icy roads (from my understanding not the norm for this time of year) and one evening had to leave our vehicle a mile from the cabin and hike the rest. We were stuck in the cabin for a day and a half. I must take some responsibility-if you are renting a cabin in the mountains in the winter you need to be prepared for what may come! Overall we had a great time-cabin is in a good location for the surrounding towns/activities to do.

Not easy access in the winter

Before arriving at the property I called the customer service line and asked if it was okay to check in early because we were arriving into town earlier than anticipated. We were given the “okay” and proceeded to the property. Perfect.

Upon arrival, around 2:15 pm, 1.75 hours before check in, the property manager greeted us at the drive. She said, “you’re not going to be able to get up there”, as the steep and long drive way was still covered in ice and snow that she hadn’t yet shoveled it. That was unusual because it snowed the week prior, but I brushed it off. She didn’t finish shoveling the ice and snow until after 5:30 pm. 1.5 hours after check in.

In the mean time, knowing that we couldn’t get up the drive way to check in, I attempted to back down the drive (it’s a narrow one way) and my tires slipped on ice and snow that was left there. Two tow trucks later, I was pulled out of the ditch on the side, I asked someone with the property manager if they were going to finish shoveling the remaining ice (the ice that caused my slip) and he said no, salt would be sprinkled on it.

When the other guests arrived, they, too, slipped on the remaining snow and ice. Inevitably, we had to shovel the snow ourselves for our safety.

The next day I called customer service and spoke with Ann Marie to explain what happened because I was dissatisfied with the events from the day before. When I informed her of the snow/ice situation she told me that one reason the drive wasn’t clear was because the property manager didn’t check in to know we were coming early, which I didn’t feel was the property manager’s responsibility when customer service could’ve called her after okaying our early arrival.

Ann Marie also stated the property manager didn’t know about the snow and ice still covering the drive because the cleaners didn’t mention the snow. That, too, was odd to me because of the property manager’s previous statement about it being impossible for me to get up to the house. Shouldn’t it be impossible for everyone? Not to mention no guests were in the house the week before our visit and it had snowed the week prior.

When recalling the events, Ann Marie was very defensive and short with me which was unappreciated after considering what happened the day before. However, she did send someone out later that day to re-salt the drive way and parking area and also address the poor shower head in one of the bathrooms.

Despite that, the trip was great.

This year, my husband and I booked our annual weekend trip with Yonder Luxury Vacations and chose Vali Hi based on location as well as property description. The location is solid as it’s close to Asheville but certainly doesn’t feel like it. It sits a few miles up the mountain in a semi-private (not gated) community about 20 minutes from downtown Asheville.

While we found the location of Vali Hi suitable, the property itself really was not up to the standards portrayed online. It is listed as a “luxury” property but it is really just a very average mountain home. The inside of the home is very basic. The deck, a spot that should be accentuated, has obviously not been maintained well over the years. The plastic deck chairs and broken rocking chair do not make one want to spend time outside, relaxing and enjoying the views. There was not even a table on the deck. This was very disappointing. Even more disappointing was the fly infestation that we encountered throughout our stay. We were greeted, upon arrival on Friday, with the sound of buzzing flies all throughout the 2nd floor. There were dozens of flies everywhere. I was disgusted and spent most of the next two hours in the downstairs bedroom. My husband immediately called Yonder and they sent the property manager out to assess the situation. Kim, the property manager, arrived over an hour after the initial call and brought some bug spray and a few fly swatters. She and my husband then proceeded with their extermination. So much for our relaxing vacation, huh?

We were away from the property the next afternoon but, when we returned, the flies were back. My husband called Yonder again and was asked what he would like them to do. They obviously weren’t going to fix the fly problem or restore any kind of enjoyment from staying at this property, so he asked for a partial refund. 10 days from the end of our trip, the owners refused any refund because their pest inspection didn’t reveal any problems. More than 3 weeks after that, Yonder finally offered us a discount on a future stay. All along, we felt we should have received some sort of refund from this trip, not a discount on a future one. And after learning that subsequent guests encountered the fly issue as well, we feel even more strongly for taking this stance. The greed of the owners, unfortunately, stood in the way of doing what was right.

Very nice house located in a very quiet mountain neighborhood, conveniently located a 5-10 min drive from anywhere in town, if you don't factor in the drive up the mountain. House is well maintained and has all the amenities you need for staying in the Asheville area.

The biltmore estate is just a short drive into asheville, with access to everything located right in the heart of biltmore village. Shopping, restaurants, bars, micro-breweries, and other local events are right outside your doorstep.

Downtown asheville itself is also only a short drive, & you can park & walk to almost everything, and enjoy all that this eclectic city has to offer. Asheville tourists games in the summer time, asheville micro-brewery tours, the wicked weed, pisgah brewing, highland brewing, the wedge, and many others are just a short distance. Dine at the corner kitchen & 12-bones, both of which are frequented by president obama whenever he comes to town, and are both of his favorites. Drive the blue ridge parkway as well & just take in the sights of the majestic mountains.
