About the property

Spacious, Rural 5 Bedroom, 4 Bath Lake Front Home On 1 Acre

Pleasant Lake Residence hosts a spacious, airy floor plan. A wood burning, stone fireplace graces the 18 x 24 foot family room. A large dining/kitchen area features a generous kitchen island, oak hardwood floors and overlooks Pleasant Lake. Tiled flooring covers the back entry, main floor bath and laundry room. One bedroom and a study complete the main floor plan. An open staircase leads upstairs to 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The upstairs master bedroom features a Jacuzzi tub. The finished basement offers ping pong, Foosball, a card table, an electric fireplace, an 18 x 24 bedroom, a full bath and an outdoor entry to the lakeside. Gather around the outdoor fireplace at the end of the day or swim or kayak in the lake - hear the loons call to each other, the frogs croak in the evening or see the eagles soar above the north side of the lake on a warm summers night. Skate or cross country ski or ice fish on the hard ice during the cold winter days.

About Albertena Praamsma

My husband, Lou, and I purchased the Pleasant Lake house when our children were toddlers. We have many fond memories of boating, skiing, tubing, building snowmen and biking around Pleasant Lake. It is a great place for friend and family gatherings. Now that we live downstate, we love to come back and enjoy the tranquility of rural Michigan. We believe that Cadillac is the gateway to so many wonderful outdoor experiences

Albertena Praamsma purchased this chateau / country house in 1994

Loved this home!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect! The owner was extremely helpful in taking care of our family before arrival. The house is perfect for all group types, we were in Cadillac for a wedding. The yard and space for our two small kids (9 months & 2 years old) to play was great. The kitchen was stocked well and all cupboards and drawers were nicely labeled. We used the ping pong table and foosball table. Were able to have family meals at the dining room. The house has ample space for both group time and alone time (if needed, which was perfect for us with the baby). The views and lake access just was icing on the cake. Our entire family was so sad to leave, we could have spent weeks at this house. Highly recommended!

Great week at a very nice cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week in this superb cottage. The bedrooms were perfect for our extended family of 9 people. We especially appreciated the 4 bathrooms, which allowed each smaller family their own space. The lake was nice for swimming. My teenage daughters enjoyed swimming out from the dock a bit, and appreciated the clear mostly weed-free water. We've been to other lakes where the weeds grew up the surface of the water, but this lake was much nicer (although shallow a long ways out from shore). Also, the fact that the lake was very non-busy made it easy to float out long ways on our rafts. It was a bit cramped right next to the dock, but we had no problem getting kayaks in and out.

We enjoyed the games downstairs as well, a very nice set-up with foosball and ping-pong. We also used the bar table in the basement for board games during the week.

A couple of minor things we thought could be improved:

1--the wi-fi name was very long, and we had trouble identifying the proper network on some devices. A shorter name would make it easier.

2--the back deck was very small, it would have been nice to have a bigger space to enjoy the outdoors nearer to the house.

3--the coffer maker was a little bit tricky to use without forcing the pot in and out and spilling the coffee. It could use an upgrade.

Like I said, minor things. We had a very nice time, and will definitely consider a return trip!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review on the Pleasant Lake Residence. This is the 2nd year the property is being rented as a vacation destination. Some upgrades were done to the property in May of 2017 - air conditioning, 2 new windows, a new front door, a patio set on the front porch, 2 loads of sand down by the beach, removal of 2 old sheds from the back yard. I did replace the coffee maker, as you suggested, on August 25. The upgrades to the property in 2018 will be primarily centered on the beach area, trying to expand the entry to the water with sand and better light weight docking. Some landscaping is also on the agenda. The upgrades to the property in 2019 will include a new large deck out the back of the house, as you have suggested... Thank you for your comments. Albertena

Spacious and relaxing home

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week's stay at this lovely home on Pleasant Lake. There was plenty of room for the seven adults, one infant and one toddler in our group. The owner Albie was easy to work with and quick to get back to us to answer any questions we had. The five bedrooms were comfortable, and the living areas provided plenty of room for us. Albie provided a book of information about the area and had a pretty well-stocked kitchen. The town of Cadillac is very close for grocery shopping and restaurants and had a nice little shopping district. We took day trips to Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City, both a little less than an hour away. The backyard is huge with a nice fire pit and sandy area, but there really isn't much of a swimming area, although the 2-year-old loved splashing in the water! The dock was a little rickety in places but was being replaced while we were there. The only suggestion I would make is that we would have liked more lighting in some rooms. The first floor bedroom had NO lighting at all, either overhead or floor/table lamps, so we had to move a lamp into the room. We definitely had a wonderful week there and would happily go back!

Loved it! Very nice home and property

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time during the week we spent at the Cadillac property. The home was clean, spacious, well designed, and is on a large property that borders the lake. The lake is beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed fishing and swimming during the day and the outdoor fire pit in the evenings. The swimming area borders the dock and is somewhat small; however, that was great for our two young grandchildren. Communication with the property owner was prompt and friendly. Thank you for a great stay!

Great spot for family.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time immensely. Lots of space in house(4000 sq ft) Bedrooms worked pretty well. We were one bed short because we had older teenagers who couldn't share. Early risers were in lower level. Pool table great hit. Beach was far from house but big back yard was great for other activities. Swimming area not for big kids but our littles loved it. We took our rented pontoon to sandbar in lake to swim. Lake was quiet during day we almost had it to our selves. Sand area was great for sand castles and toy trucks, etc. Driveway was popular for bikes and scooters when not at beach. We played basketball and hockey in driveway too. (Hockey sticks provided not basketball). Front porch a great viewing area for adults to watch bike riding. Grill is charcoal so be prepared for that.

Four bathrooms very convenient.

We've been renting cottages for 9 years and have never had one we'd go back to but we've already signed up for 2018 to return to this one.

This was a beautiful, well maintained, spacious property.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here on Pleasant Lake. We had three generations of family vacationing. The house was very clean and obviously well maintained. The owner was very pleasant and responsive. The description needs some updating as linens were provided, with the exception of towels. The home DOES have AC and an ample supply of firewood. The only disappointment was "beach" area. There was a large sand area where the grandchildren could play, however this area doesn't extend to the lake. The bottom of the very large yard is overgrown where it meets the lake. There is only a small pathway leading to the dock. We were uncertain where the picture (10/24) was taken of the sand beach meeting the lake. There is no description below the photo and no beach as pictured on the property when we visited. We also felt the 9:00 am check out was difficult to meet with small children. When we've booked with home away previously we've had 11:00 am check outs routinely. Even with these issues, we had a very good time and would absolutely consider booking again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review of the Pleasant Lake Residence. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay. I appreciate the feedback. I do like to address the 3 issues brought up. 1. Towels I do note in the hospitality tab on the VRBO web site that only kitchen towels are provided, not bath or beach towels. I also remind guests that they need to bring their own bath and beach towels when I send out the email 7 days before the date of arrival with the keyless entry code. 2. Sign out time of 9 am in the summer This is the 2nd summer I have rented out the house. Last year the sign out time was 10 am. Unfortunately, guests did not leave on time and often the house cleaner could not start cleaning until 11 am. The house is large and takes a good 4 hours to clean, do the linens for the beds, clean the stove and grill, fix any faucet leaks or clogged sinks, etc. and she was still is pressed to leave by 3 pm. The next guests arriving would often come early, around 2:30/3 pm. So there was not enough "wiggle room". So I made the "turn around" time period larger this year. If you have any suggestions to alleviate this situation, please let me know... The sign out time during the fall/winter/spring season is 11 am because there usually are no other guests arriving to stay that same day at 4 pm. 3. The beach The picture on the VRBO web site was taken in September 2015. The lake level was low and the beach had just been tilled. Last September, 2016, the beach was tilled also but the man who tilled it did not till to the outside property lines as well as in 2015. Added to that, the months of May and June of 2017 were rainy and the reeds grew more abundantly. As a result, the opening to the water is more narrow than in 2016. I apologize for any misleading information done by the picture - it was not on purpose. I do realize that the beach and the dock are 2 areas that need work to expand it's usage as a waterfront property. The goal in the next year is to clear up some of the reeds and bush, add some more sand and establish a better dock system to adjust to the lake level and to run alongside the beach, not in the middle of it. Again, thank you for your comments. I do plan to enhance the property a little bit each year, it just takes time... Albertena

Additional information about rental rates

Refundable Damage Deposit A$382.41
House Cleaning A$140.22
Tax Rate 6.0%

Starting in March 2016, the VRBO web site began to charge a 5.5% to 10% service fee to all renters, calculated on the nightly or weekly fee (does not include house cleaning fee or tax rate). The owner has NO say in the matter - it is implemented by VRBO and the fee goes directly to the VRBO web site. For example, the service fee for a 2 night stay ($600) would be $63 - about a little over a 10% rate. The service fee for a weekly stay in the summer ($2000) would be $124 - about a 6.4% rate.
