2 Bdrm, 2 Ba dog-friendly, horse property on 2.5 Fenced Acres w/ Mountain Views
About BRITTA APPEL
Bart and I were originally raised in Southern California, and later moved to Northern Nevada. We fell in love with this area in 2013, and finally made the move down here in 2016. We enjoy the outdoors, camping, horseback riding and mountain bike riding. We have two dogs, Belle (a Jagdterrier) and Patchy (a Blue Heeler), and two horses. We are also volunteers with the Arizona Rangers and local community organizations.
BRITTA APPEL purchased this House in 2014
Why BRITTA APPEL chose Sonoita
This property was the perfect size for us and our animals when we lived here. We also liked the fact that there were no neighbors to the south, west or east of the house, which gives a greater sense of space. While we no longer live here, we both liked this house too much to sell it.
What makes this House unique
Our favorite feature of this home is the back patio, which faces west, so allows for viewing great sunsets. At the end of the day, this is where we would spend our time fixing dinner, watching the birds, deer or other wildlife. The property is also dog friendly, as there is no carpet in the home (rugs yes, carpet no), horse friendly, and close to the national forest.

A perfect place for a little "time out"!
This home is a great place to relax and enjoy a quiet rural setting. As a bonus our dogs loved it too. For them a large fenced yard and the freedom to romp and play. We were traveling as a family and the house is well set up for four. The space is comfortable and the kitchen well outfitted for cooking. We used the patio BBQ frequently and the views from this area were lovely. The owners were very helpful orienting us to the property and following up after our stay. Should we have the opportunity to return to this area of Arizona it would be a pleasure to stay here again.
Awesome AZ sunsets from the Patio
We were hunting in the area and had our 2 yr. birddog with us. The fenced acreage allowed us to let him roam the yard on his own, not worrying about him being able to escape, because he couldn't - the fence was that solid. Also have an outdoor kennel if we wanted to leave him home for awhile when we were exploring the area.
Beautiful 2 bd, 2 bath home with classic furniture, quiet, clean. Kitchen stocked with sharp knives, spices galore and other possible items you need - they were all there.
Fun things to do within 60 miles or less of the property.
But the best part about this rental is the covered patio area facing the Santa Maria Mtns. to the west. Great way to end a long day with Awesome AZ Sunsets!
Truly a gem of a property that can be rented from the owners, Britta and Bart.
Perfect family vacation
This property is more beautiful than the pictures show. The Sonoita area is truly breathtaking. My family and I needed a restful place to stay, and that is what we got. The area was quiet, peaceful and full of night stars. The house was very well stocked, clean and well maintained. Truly, all you need to bring is your clothes. If you have an animal, the gated property is a real bonus.
My two week stay was exactly as hoped... The home was in immaculate condition, with everything fitting the profile description. The modern kitchen was fully stocked with good plates, cups, pots/pans, and related cookware. The master bedroom was on the west side of the house, so no early morning rays of sunshine to wake you up! And the bed is very comfortable.
Having the garage to park my car in was a nice bonus!
As noted in the home's description, there is no internet service. My Verizon phone, however, had no issues serving as a hot spot. I streamed movies, downloaded music, etc. Ensure that you adjust your data plan accordingly. If you have service other than Verizon, check whether coverage extends to Sonoita.
Speaking of the town, it offers the basics (post office, gas station, small grocery store, and several good restaurants and a brew pub). The fairgrounds have events on occasion if you're fortunate enough to be here for a rodeo, barrel race, etc. If you need a dose of the city, Tucson is an hour (give or take) and Sierra Vista 40 minutes.
Otherwise, all good things to report. The birds were out in full force during my stay (hummingbirds, doves, finches, etc) should you want to feed them. A few crows ventured in during my time as well.
I've had no interaction with the neighbors, less when their dogs barked occasionally or a car drove by. But the folks I've seen on the back roads have all been friendly.
In short, the home is exactly as one would expect. It's not an isolated locale -- just five minutes from town -- but far enough from neighbors that you can enjoy a peaceful evening or day watching birds or the sunset.
All in all, I couldn't be happier to have chosen this location for my stay. I look forward to returning!
Thank you Bryan for the very nice review. I'm glad you enjoyed the home and the town. Please let me know if there is anything else you think we need to add/change at the house to improve the next person's stay. We look forward to having you stay again! Britta
Wonderful Rental Property!
The property was exactly as advertised, charming, clean and fully equipped. As a pet friendly property it allowed us the opportunity to explore all the beautiful lakes and wineries in southern AZ with our dogs in tow, and use the house a base camp for each new day of adventure. It's super convenient to Sonoita for restaurants and supplies and not far from Patagonia and Elgin area wineries. Property owner is very friendly and quite helpful to ensure a high quality stay and local experience.
Just liked I dreamed!
Wow! The place was great. The setting was just as described. We had a little snow, but that's February no matter where you are. Britta was so great. Helpful, but respectful of our privacy. Would I stay again? In a New York minute.
It was wonderful to meet you all and I am glad you had a nice time. I also appreciated your suggestions very much (I've ordered a crock-pot and the other items you suggested!) All feedback helps us to provide a better service and we hope you will visit here again.
