About Thomas Janssen

I have been coming to Wellfleet my whole life as a renter and now live here full time in retirement. I am actively involved in the community as a docent at the Historical Society and avid walker, theater-goer and general Cape enthusiast.

Thomas Janssen purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Thomas Janssen chose Wellfleet

This is my favorite area of Wellfleet. The beach is on the bayside, which means it's virtually a private beach for the people who live nearby - it's a hidden gem. Wake up, grab your stuff and walk 5min to the beach and just camp out in the most peaceful place on earth.

Great weekend retreat.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just as described, perfect for a couple and our dog. Wellfleet has so much to offer, even on a rainy day. Would definitely go for a weekend again!

COZY RETREAT

  • 5 of 5

Even though the weather was bad, we enjoyed our stay at tom's.

Tom was very helpful directing us to his place, as we arrived late and

our GPS was having heart failure. The day we left the sun came out, and we

could really see the beauty of the area, and the beach that is a few minute walk.

Great cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a great place to stay for 2 or 3 people. Simple, comfortable and clean, with a super location - easy walk to a beautiful bayside beach, and close to Wellfleet center. Highly recommended!

Satisfied

It had a rustic feel of being in the woods, yet being so close to the ocean. The best of both worlds.

A perfect mix of rustic and beach cottage

  • 4 of 5

What a great cottage for our family of three and our dog. It had everything we needed with a separate sleeping space, a kitchen and living area, and a small yard outside. The outdoor space had the feel of camping with all the comforts of a rustic, homey cottage inside. My four-year old loved looking out the upstairs windows and felt like he was on a pirate ship with the view out all four sides. The kitchen was equipped with the basics, enough to make coffee and light breakfasts and host a simple dinner for a few additional family members with local seafood we grilled one night. The property itself is fairly secluded and quiet, but still convenient to all sorts of amenities. The walk to the beach was easy for all of us, even with bags of beach blankets and toys, and the beach itself is peaceful and calm. It is a wonderful spot for a small family with nearby walking and biking trails, a good playground in Wellfleet harbor, restaurants and markets, and beaches everywhere. Even a trip to Provincetown was not too far and provided a fun excursion. The owner was extremely responsive to all of our questions and the cottage was clean and ready for us when we arrived. This cottage was exactly what we had in mind when we planned our trip to Cape Cod. We will definitely come back- we still have lots of exploring to do.

We had a great vacation at this lovely Wellfleet cottage.

  • 4 of 5

We have been Cape Cod frequent summer renters for the past 30+ years, so we have lots of rental experiences to compare with this one. We prefer the lower Cape for the beaches, restaurants, and lower key vibe. Wellfleet has the perfect combination of scenic beauty, great beaches, and variety of restaurant and entertainment choices. The cottage location is extremely convenient and easy to get to, near route 6. The neighborhood was much busier than expected with both foot and vehicle traffic, but everyone seemed to also be vacationers and friendly and sociable. I would describe it as a family friendly neighborhood. The walk to the Harbor beach is only about 5 minutes and a pleasant stroll for a couple blocks and down a woodsy path leading to the expansive beach. The beach is beautiful soft sand. There are tidal pools teaming with life. Great for younger kids and beachcombers. The view of Great Island is amazing and sunsets are beautiful not to be missed. We brought a boat and there was room at back of property to park it during the week so it never got in anyone's way. There is a boat ramp at the Harbor pier and we had no problem utilizing that to take the boat out to Great Island for a day on the sand bar where we saw some seals but fortunately no great whites. Kayaking is also very popular in the area and you can drive by the beach and drop off your kayaks easily. To park at the beach you need to get a town sticker for the week. We didn't bother to get a sticker as we didn't mind the five minute walk and the local beach was so great we didn't even visit any other beaches during the week. Weekdays we practically had the whole beach to ourselves. The property itself is a charming smallish cottage that could have at one time been a garage, but which has been finished nicely for occupancy and expanded to make a very comfortable little summer rental. Other reviews talk about the cobwebs and cleanliness. There may have been a cobweb or two but the place was clean and well furnished/equipped. You don't rent a cottage like this if you need luxury or fine finishes. The pullout couch is actually quite comfortable. The upstairs bedroom is airy and bright, very breezy with all the windows open. Fans are provided. You may want to bring another one if you want the downstairs to be more breezy. We highly recommend this place if your are looking for a casual compact cottage for 1-4 occupants.
