Why Jan Nores & Johnny Kemick chose Puako

Puako Pau Hana is a home, you will feel the attention to detail, clean and comfortable! Listen to the sounds of the ocean as you fall asleep and the trade winds toss the palm fronds! Relax after a day of exploring the island, on the covered lanai, que up the grill and kick back with a cool drink, aaah, this is what it is all about!

We love to walk to the waters edge, take a dip, watch the sun set, in the morning watch the sun rise over the mountains, gaze across the open land to majestic Mauna Kea! It is convenient to all the resorts, but supremely quiet and private.

Petroglyph park at the Mauna Lani resort is with in walking distance. The Top Ten in the world beaches, Mauna Kea Resort and Hapuna Beach are within 4 miles, along with world class diving, golf and tennis!

We fell in love with Puako and find it to be the best place to be on the planet, nothing compares to the friendliest neighborhood feel of Puako... ride a bike, walk to the General Store, stroll in the evening to watch sunsets that will be forever in your mind & memory!

We meet people everyday, that have been coming to Puako your decades with their families, there is such a great small world feel to being here. We always feel safe and our neighbors are the best!

What makes this house unique

Located in Puako, the best diving and snorkeling on the Island!

You can hear the ocean, feel trade winds and know you are in Hawaii!

The General Store is well stocked for most of your needs.

Safe & friendly neighborhood, great place to walk and ride bikes.

Walk along the beach path and in 10 minutes you are at the Orchid Hotel for lunch, dinner or pupus!

Puako is the place everyone wants to come back to!

Puako Pau Hana is well positioned toward the end of Puako Beach Drive. You can be on the shoreline in 3 minutes, maybe less! If you crave the sound of the ocean, the pleasure of walking, swimming, snorkeling and just gazing off, this is the place to be! If you want adventure and sights to see, drive 5 miles, it all changes, with the 11 climates we have on the Big Island. You can be at the visitor center at Mauna Kea Mountain in less than an hour, Kona 30 minutes, barring the late afternoon Kona Krawl.

Beautiful and quiet location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay and thoroughly enjoyed being across from the beach. The house was very comfortable and well equipped. Our two toddlers had a great time in the backyard and exploring the tide pools. We especially loved seeing the sea turtles!

Perfectly delightful!

  • 5 of 5

Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Jan, a real beach mama who made our stay fantastic. The property is beautiful and we stayed in the lower half of the home. It had 2 bedrooms, each with their own air conditioner. Everything was provided for. My son happily stayed in the den on the couch with a thick temperpedic foldable mattress on top. We were all jealous. JK. The house was right across from the beach entrance which was convenient for taking in the views of the whales with your morning coffee. We can't wait to go back. Jan is a superb hostess and a new wonderful friend.

Quiet and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Best area of the Big Island to spend some quality time and Puako Pau Hana is a great place to spend it. Easy access to the ocean with great snorkeling nearby. The area is a small community and has that feel. So, if you are looking for that type of Hawaiian experience, you won't find it staying at one of the large resorts. Has everything you need and Jan and Johnny are wonderful host.

Nice quiet property

  • 4 of 5

Good location, near everything we wanted to see. Very near (across the street) to a lava beach where sea turtles nest and there's a sand beach 1 mile away.

Nice owners upstairs who responded to our requests and needs.

Good house for 2 couples, plenty of space.

Great place to enjoy a quiet beach

  • 5 of 5

Jan and Johnny were great hosts, communicated with them both before arriving on Hawaii and after arriving at their place.

Nice clean home and very comfortable. Wonderful covered patio which is where we were most of the time when were at the house. We had stayed in the Puako area on a previous trip so we were looking for something close to one of the beach access points. This filled the bill as it is across the street, no driving needed. Wonderful rocky beach with tide pools, turtles, whales, sunsets, and no people. My wife like to sketch and paint, and a lot to look at here other than sand and people.

The location is close to the resorts when you want shopping and restaurants food (Like Tommy Bahama's for MaiTai's and the sunset), but for most of your everyday items the local store has what you need.

We like to go to the northern portion of the island and this is easy access from here.

We like the entire island and on this trip stayed in Hilo area (for jungle and volcano), then Waimea area (for cool nights and agriculture) and finished with the warm weather and the ocean at Puako. This is a very enjoyable place.

A delightful gem

  • 5 of 5

Jan has thought of everything to create a quiet beautiful retreat. The kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed eating dinners on the patio and the fans in every room kept us from needing any AC (in January). The beach across the street had fun tide pools and we loved seeing all the turtles and spectacular whales. The beach walk just to the south was also a great spot to watch the surfers and go for a walk. Definitely a place we would love to come back to!
