About Ryan & Lisa Kingry

Aloha! Before we were full time residents to the Island, we had been coming to South Kona so often we just started calling it "home" the second the plane touched down. During all of our visits, we stayed in numerous rentals, all the while making a list of what we liked and didn't like, knowing internally that someday we would have a rental of our own here. We have since put all of those notes and ideas into Pukalani! We love being Farmers, the Island way of life, growing our own food and living off the land. We also love making people have an awesome Island experience - hence giving you Pukalani so you too can experience what (and how) we live, if even for a short period of time. We appreciate your interest in staying with Us!

Why Ryan & Lisa Kingry chose Honaunau-Napoopoo

When renovating and putting together Pukalani, our #1 goal was to make it 'top notch' in everything - our "Dream Rental" if you will. So many times you stay at a place that while 'once' was probably nice, over the years of having a caretaker manage it, it just kind of got run down. Since we live on site, it is US who take care of and clean and prepare Pukalani for your visit, paying attention to every last detail to ensure your home away from home is everything (and more) that it needs to be. Our promise to you is that whether you are a first time guest or returning soon-to-be-resident like us, our dedication will remain the same and you won't be disappointed with your stay.

What makes this guest house unique

Secluded and quiet, our site location allows you to rest and relax after enjoying all that West Kona has to offer... We live on site to provide attentive service for our guests morning or night. The views from the lanai are so amazing you will never forget the sunsets here. Enjoy morning yoga or coffee in the lush ornamental/meditation garden, then drive only 8 minutes to the nearest beach - famous Kealakekua Bay. Stop off at the farmers market to pick up local fare and cook dinner in your fully stocked kitchen (or grill on your gas BBQ on your patio) and relax in the evening during a perfect sunset. We grow more than a dozen types of fruit on the property, so depending on which time of year you visit and what is in season, you get to share in our bounty of fresh fruit.

Loved It

  • 5 of 5

This was by far the best place that we have stayed in our half dozen trips to the Islands. Ryan and Lisa have created a unique and pleasant sanctuary in paradise that is both conveniently close to and yet pleasantly far away from conventional vacation experiences (beaches, local shops/vibe/atmosphere, crowds, etc). If you want to sit on the patio all day with a cooler full of liquid libations enjoying the sounds of nature, the view of the ocean and a good book, this place is for you. Or, if you want to start with morning coffee in the ornamental garden, hit it hard and take in all the island has to offer during the day, and then return home to your private space for a relaxing evening free from the noises of the city, this place is for you too.

We thoroughly enjoyed Ryan's personal guided tour of the farm grounds. It gave us a new appreciation for both the grown products that we enjoy as well as the folks that work hard to provide them for us. Lisa's personality is one of genuine warmth and appreciation. Together, they were attentive to our needs yet intuitively respectful of our privacy.

It is very apparent that Ryan and Lisa put much through into creating this tasteful unit. Quality and attention to detail were continually revealed throughout the unit and our stay. The kitchen had everything we needed and was even stocked with popcorn and popper :). They also provide complete sets of quality snorkel gear, beach bags, grass mats, chairs, beach towels, and even a couple of cozies. We had everything we needed.

Looking forward to our next visit.

Highly recommended!

Clean. Modern. Temperatures were perfect after a "long" day at the hot Kona beaches. Private. The owners live on the property but are very respectful of your privacy. However, they also didn't hesitate to provide tons of information about the Island. This came in very useful as it was our first time visiting.

The owners also thought of all the gear a tourist would need! We never had to worry about the hassle and cost of renting snorkel equipment, chairs, sun umbrella, cooler, koozies, beach towels, bamboo mats, beach bag!!!

We arrived late and after a long day of flying, I was anxious to see the rental. I loved the little touches the owners put into the decorations. The bed was comfy and we slept very well.

I would recommend touring the farm at the beginning of your stay. We would have learned about a lot of the vegetation, animals and the Island itself. I'd say that's the only thing I'm upset about... I should have taken that tour at the beginning. (They offer to do the tour at any time but I had mapped out a schedule... that we didn't complete in 8 days because there is too much to see.)

The owner also recommended a zip lining company and place to eat near the company. Ask him about this and end the day whale watching at the state park on your drive back. You will not regret.

Thank you for renting the perfect getaway spot to celebrate our 5th Anniversary. My husband and I wish we could give more than 5 stars. Maholo.

Peaceful Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful accommodation in a peaceful location. We loved the ocean views, gardens and birdlife. Comfortable and relaxing interior (great bed!) with constant breezes and birdsong. Delightful owners are generous with fresh fruit from the garden and local information. Short drive to Two Step lava beach, a well-renowned snorkeling spot. Highly recommended for a relaxing vacation.

Serene paradise

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous experience! Lisa and Ryan share their piece of paradise with warmth and generosity. Fresh fruit from their trees, available beach gear and cooler , gorgeous setting, sounds, and views, a perfect start to our vacation. We covered a lot of miles trying to see as much of the island as we could, and were always grateful to turn in at the peaceful farm at night. Especially loved Two Step and the Place of Refuge. Thanks, Lisa and Ryan.

Pukalani - A Bit of Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

Our visit to Pukalani was our first experience with a VRBO and the Big Island. It couldn’t have been better for us. Situated among Macadamia trees and serenaded with bird song, our attractive accommodations were well equipped, comfortable and immaculate. We awoke well rested and approached each day as an adventure in living the good life. The pace was relaxing and our hosts were superb. The only drawback was our reluctance to pack our bags and say aloha on our last day. Mahalo, Lisa and Ryan!
