Spectacular views of Grandfather Mountain are part of this centrally located one bedroom condo on Seven Devils. Enjoy the magnificent views from both your living room or outside on the treetop level balcony. A thermostatically controlled gas fireplace provides warmth and a cozy atmosphere. Enjoy cool summer mountain air with an elevation roughly 700 feet higher than Boone. Top of Seven has sleeping accommodations for up to four people. The bedroom has a queen size bed. A comfortable pull out sofa is in the living room.

Snow tubing and zip lines at Hawksnest are just a short five-minute drive away. Community tennis courts are even closer. This condo is centrally located between Boone, Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain, Linville and Blowing Rock. Appalachian State University is less than 20 minutes away, so book a stay with a view for those home football games! Additional nearby seasonal activities include biking and hiking trails, white water rafting, skiing at Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in July, wine tasting at Grandfather Vineyards, and a great public golf course at Sugar Mountain. Take advantage of your central location by exploring the local shops and restaurants that line the streets of the High Country towns of Blowing Rock and Boone. You don't want to miss out on the eclectic merchandise at the Mast General Store in nearby Valle Crucis.

Why John and Dianne Purifoy chose Seven Devils

Because you can be in Blowing Rock in 20 to 25 mins, in Boone in 20 mins, Banner Elk in 15 min, Linville in 25 mins and Beech Mountain in 25 mins. You can't find a better centrally located location in a beautiful setting! Also, Otter Falls hike is just 1/2 mile up the road, zip lining and snow tubing is a little over a mile up the road, and Grandfather Winery is about a quarter mile to the left on 105 towards Boone. Lots of opportunity for hiking nearby and beautiful walks just outside the door of the condo!

Needs a lot of work, especially electrical

Sites like VRBO work only to the extent that reviews are honest and fair, so while I'm sorry to have to say some of the things below, we hope it will help improve this unit for future visitors, or at least give potential visitors the opportunity to make a more informed decision.

My wife and I have been enjoying the High Country for the past twenty years, renting units several times each year. This unit was not just a disappointment, it was actually dangerous at times because of what seems to be very poor electrical wiring.

The good: Great view, clean sheets, hot shower, easy-to-work-with owners. If that's all you're looking for, you might consider this unit. But this unit has electrical, structural, cosmetic, and cleanliness problems. It's possible, but it's hard for me to imagine that the owners themselves spend extended time in this unit .

The electrical work: sparks flew when plugging in the coffee pot; light in the bathroom would not stay on; when on, it went to half brightness when hair dryer was plugged in; lamps in the living room would mysteriously go out even when plugged in and turned on; electrical outlets are "deep" into the wall so that it was hard for anything to remain plugged in, including the owner's own nightlight.

Structural: three of the five windows are missing their crank lever, so the windows could not be opened; window screen in the kitchen would not lock, so it fell out as soon as we got near it; thermostat dial fell off the wall when there was any motion next to it; bathroom sink stopper is broken and the portion of the remaining plug did not actually plug.

Cosmetics: Except for what seems to be newer flooring, the entire unit needs massive updating. It appears to be almost entirely of the 1970s, including walls, furniture, and appliances. The bed is a double, not a queen as described.

Cleanliness: Unit needs very deep cleaning and, possibly, a new cleaning company. Hair on the toilet seat (of all places), tub, and baseboards; scores of dead bugs stuck to the oven's hood light and undercounter sink light; plastic cups, tupperware, and old dead leaves (not newer ones) covering the deck.

Again, we write this not to complain--we did actually did stay the whole weekend, and we are not asking for any money back--but only to help others making decisions from a distance.

Owner's Response: Wow! First let me state that our condo is rented regularly not just on VRBO but on other services. Guests booked with other services and stayed prior to and after “anonymous” stay gave our condo five star reviews. We take all reviews/feedback seriously. This is the only time in three years of being advised of an unsafe situation. “Anonymous” kindly notified us of what he saw as a serious problem the last night of his stay. As I then advised “anonymous” we would have an electrician look at it first thing the following day. The electrician had to replace two GFCI receptacles. No other electrical issues were found. Contrary to “anonymous” assumption we do stay at the property several times a year. We keep a high level of maintenance. As I had pointed out to “Anonymous” it has been difficult to locate replacement cranks for the windows. They have finally been received and installed. The recessed electrical outlets have been brought flush with the wall. We do not understand why the thermostat dial would fall off “when there was motion near it” or a window screen would fall when “you got near it” unless something was done by a prior guest. The window screen and thermostat issues are not something checked by the cleaning crew but normally would have been noted in private feedback by a guest and be remedied immediately. Leaves and “old leaves” come from the wind. As for “anonymous” recommendation on the cleaning crew, you do not replace good people. Again note previous reviews on VRBO and other services. Items can be overlooked and we want to know about it and we will pass that on to the cleaning people. “Anonymous” says that “tupperware” and “plastic cups” were on the deck and forwarded me a picture of one cup. The cup may have blown from a neighbor’s deck. Perceptions vary by individuals and there is always a minority opinion here and there about updates or as in the almost unique opinion of “anonymous”“massive updates” .Also errors can be made as to the age of furniture. First, the bed really is a queen not a double. The new queen size topper fits the bed perfectly. Our condo was constructed in 1975. The floor has been updated, the walls have been updated (thus the previously “deep” receptacles), the two large chairs in the living room are less than one year old, the bistro table and chairs are less than two years old, the TV is less than two years old and the refrigerator and dishwasher have been replaced in the last ten years.

This place is small and dated. It could stand a little TLC. It's clean, but could use some updating. The view of Grandfather is great.

Perfect just the right size and peaceful.

Beautiful view, great price.

Condo was perfect for what we needed it for which was basically a place to sleep. It is dated and needs some upkeep. Most of the windows are missing their crank lever so you could not adjust them. Overall it was fine for our needs.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Not sure what you mean by needs some upkeep. We like feed back with specific information which we take seriously. With few exceptions our properties generally receive high marks.

Clean, quiet, relaxing

Our stay in this condo was great. It was clean, quiet, and relaxing. After a short drive (20 min), we tried out a few breweries in the Boone area. We also hiked grandfather mountain, Linville falls, rough ridge, and saw Linville caverns which were all close by. Would definitely come back!

The remaining balance will be due 10 days prior to your arrival.
