Log Cabin With 2 Open Lofts. Perfect Retreat And Beautiful View Of The Sky
About Kris Shellabarger
We love our log cabin on the lake so much that we built another one to share with others. We spend much of the summer boating, fishing and swimming during the day and sitting around the fire at night. We also love to check out the local farmer's markets and wineries and sometimes hit the antique stores. In the winter, it is so cozy and we love to hike and catch up on a good book.

Why Kris Shellabarger chose Goreville
Lake living is what we love and after we built our log cabin, we wanted to build another smaller version to share with others. We built this across the street from the lake, but still with a dock and lake access.
What makes this Cabin unique
Peaceful, charming, warm and a great place to relax after a day of hiking, biking, boating, fishing or antiquing! Cozy fireplace for cooler evenings and winter retreats! We have a tiny cabin across the street if you need more room. It is located right on the lake with an outdoor shower!
Follow directions listed on the wall heaters/air conditioner. Please turn everything off (wall units) when you leave. If you just need a little heat, please use wall unit by TV. If you need more heat, use the gas unit on the wall closest to the street. Please put all trash in can with lid outside.

We did truly enjoy your cabin and the stay there. A very good experience overall. The picture and the description of the cabin didn't say anything about it being difficult to access for someone with limited mobility. The stairs were tough for the wife and I but we managed. The propane grill worked fine but either needs repaired or replaced. It doesn't look like its been cleaned in eons. Everything inside worked fine and was what we expected. We couldn't access the loft with the ladder due to the mobility situation. I know you stated in was not accessible for wheel chairs but as I said, it was very difficult hill to go up and down. We would recommend it others but I would love to see a few improvements. Thank you!
A family getaway that we will always remember!
The Red Roof Retreat was the perfect spot for us and our three boys. The cabin is absolutely adorable and very clean. Time slowed down as we watched the boys fish, canoe, paddle boat and just hang out. We walked away with many wonderful memories. Kris was awesome! She went above and beyond to welcome us and make us feel comfortable. Such a special place!
Red Roof Retreat
A fun little vacation getaway! Cabin was very nice with a lot of personal touches. Very well appointed with everything you could possibly need. The lake views were nice and the rolling hills are always fun to bicycle. Property is located just a hop, skip, and a jump from hundreds of beautiful outdoor destinations throughout the Shawnee National Forest and many state parks in the region. A highly recommended destination!
Great getaway location
Nice cabin. Clean, Loved seeing the deer so tame and close by everyday.
This was my first experience using VRBO and I can not be more pleased! The cabin was beautiful and in a beautiful location. It was so much fun being able to bring the dogs along. The kids and I hope to make this a yearly event!
No drama for this mama
Kris was super responsive to any calls and questions. The kids loved the lofts, though I had to get used to the height when the kids came down. The fire pit was a nice treat with the wood and sticks available. We even caught some fish off the dock.
If you are a lake person, there is fishing, boating and swimming. We include a dock with the rental where you can fish off of or park your boat. If you are a walker or hiker or climber, there is beautiful hiking all over southern IL from flat beautiful paths through the woods to rugged rock climbing the bluffs and everything in between. If you are a biker... wow, the bike paths are amazing. If you are a hunter, we have just the cabin for you to make your home base. If you are a stargazer... wow, you won't see stars like this! If you love the wineries, there are 2 wine trails in Southern IL and lots of beautiful wineries with the most gorgeous drives to each of them. Festivals, fairs and antiquing are more reason to stay at the Red Roof Retreat. It is quiet and lovely and near everything you need but far enough away that you will feel secluded. We welcome you!
