ADDRESS: 2113 MAIN ST./US ROUTE 62, Winesburg, OH 44690 (for direction on how to find this address, please scroll down to "Location")

Within minutes from Berlin, Sugar Creek, Millersburg, and Charm, Ohio, The Chestnut Barn is located in the heart of Amish country in the quaint and historic farming town of Winesburg, Ohio. Approximately 7 miles from the bustling tourist area (Berlin), the Chestnut Barn provides a true picture of Amish life in Holmes County. Surrounded by farms and rolling hills, long walks are a wonderful experience. Although our little town does not even boast a traffic light, you will be just steps away from the Winesburg Park which has a large playground and picnic pavilion. A few steps in the other direction is our historic general store. Not only will you find a deli serving Amish meats and cheeses, our general store also has a carry out which serves a varied menu that includes the area's most popular pizza, roasted chicken, and a full service ice cream shop. Amish restaurants and shops are just a short drive in any direction.

Please be advised that even though it is quite a spacious house, it is not suitable for small children or the elderly. It is not handicap accessible. On the main (ground) floor the downstairs bedroom is one step down from the rest of the floor (not quite evident in pictures) and the shower room is also one step bellow the main level. For people using a walker or a wheelchair, we regret to inform you that unfortunately this is not an ideal property to rent.

Located In the back yard of a c.1830 (chestnut) log house, this recently transformed barn has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a giant kitchen and a great room which can be used for gatherings, seminars, or group meetings and fun get togethers.

There are numerous sites to see and Amish country life to be experienced here in Holmes county all in the vicinity of this old barn with modern comforts and furnishings.

Spacious, Comfortable Home

  • 4 of 5

My parents, 14 year old son and I stayed here for a few days while we were discovering Amish country. The house had everything we needed. Plenty of space for everyone. My son and I were in the upstairs bedrooms and my parents used the downstairs bedroom. There was a large kitchen with all modern appliances and a coffee maker and microwave. There was dish soap and dishwashing detergent provided in the kitchen. Paper towels are also provided. We didn't do much cooking because we ate too much at the Amish buffets in the surrounding areas. The mattresses were comfortable. There were plenty of towels in the bathrooms. Everything was provided, including the shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The house was very comfortable and Alex, the owner, is right next door if needed. You just need to bring your clothes and whatever food you want to cook and you will feel right at home.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay! The host was very considerate and the property was exactly as promised. Clean, spacious and certainly a value. My whole family stayed there while attending my daughter's graduation from The College of Wooster and it was so good for all of us to be together in one large spot. Hope to return in the future!

Nice lots of living space

  • 4 of 5

Nice stay ....quiet area ..lots of living space ... huge kitchen.... we had a Sweet Adeline quartet singing weekend and it worked perfect for us.

Didnt give it 5 stars because Driveway needs work... bottomed out my car ... And not being allowed to have drink on any carpeted area wasn't the best ... we drink lots of water on these singing weekends ... always keep it bedside but $200 penalty was not something we wanted to risk. We would stay here again

Owner's Response: Dear Margie and Friends: Thank you so much for staying with us and giving us a good review. We would love have you again. We are truly sorry for the two things that you have mentioned. One of these we could have easily resolved, had you mentioned during your stay. Our policy of no eating and drinking on carpeted areas (we thought) precludes a cup of water or a water bottle bedside. We will attempt to reword our rules. By 'No drinks' we mean colored drinks that can never be taken out of a light colored carpet. The driveway, however, I am not sure if we can do anything about because the dip between the driveway and the road is what the township has created for the water drainage to the gutter at the corner of the Barn. When we park there, we have the same problem for our cars that either sit low or are loaded, that they will bottom out. We will still see what if anything that might be done about that issue. Once again, thank you so much for your stay and your kind remarks. We hope to welcome you whenever to decide to stay with us next time. Sincerely yours Alex & Jean

Great home in great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family met at the barn for Thanksgiving weekend. We had 9 people for the entire 5 days and 11 for one night. There was plenty of room for everyone everyone to sleep. The great room/dining/kitchen area was great for keeping everyone together while we cooked and relaxed. We visited some of the nearby towns and farms and had a fantastic vacation. We will definitely be back!
