Why Alex & Jean chose Winesburg
The enormous great room can accommodate several large tables for scrapbookers, quilters and large gatherings. We have had numerous reunions and groups of various kinds enjoy their gatherings in the Chestnut Barn!
What makes this Barn unique
Located in the heart of Amish country, It is seven miles from Berlin, five miles from Mt. Hope, six miles from Walnut Creek, twelve miles from Sugarcreek, and thirteen miles from Millersburg the county seat of Holmes County Ohio. The beauty of Winesburg is the fact that it a quiet little sleepy town to stay at. During the day you visit all the fun and touristy places and towns that are all within a few minutes drive, but after all that you come back to the quiet place to rest and comfortable and spacious Barn to relax and fun with family/friends.

Very clean quaint place to stay.
Loved staying at Alex and Jean’s place “The Chestnut Barn”. So spacious and clean, The kitchen and living area was huge, great for a large group. Space to spread out as well as gather together. Plenty of comfortable seating. Alex patiently helped me correct my guest list/cost issue as we had less guests than originally paid for. Would love to come back.
So fun meeting Alex and Jean and hearing a bit about their work!
Not what we expected
Our intentions were to enjoy the attractions and shopping in the Amish area. As for the accommodations, they were adequate. The layout was not to our liking, the kitchen floor was extremely annoying, the lack of Internet after about 10:30 was very annoying. All of us found the mattresses very uncomfortable. Lack of ceiling fan in the bedroom was uncomfortable. Many safety concerns.
We are ever so sorry that you did not enjoy your time at the Barn. We do hope to make it up to you somehow on your next visit. It seems like you chose the Barn without looking at the layout in our picture displays, or reading our reviews. Although we are extremely sorry that you did not like the layout, unfortunately we can't do much to improve it. Most large groups seem to like the layout more than anything else, but we are sorry that it did not fit your purpose. As for the mattresses and the floor, we will try to remedy that for our future guests. Those mattresses are relatively new and we will try to replace them with different ones! As for the kitchen floor boards creaking, we can easily remedy that with adding a carpet on top of it. We can very easily add a fan to the bedroom that doesn't have one. Thank you so much for your feedback. We do not know why you didn't have internet after 10:30, that's an independent service provided by Frontier. We are so sorry that their service, the only one available in Winesburg, was unsatisfactory for you. Once again, we are sorry that the place was not what you expected. Because you did not mention in your review, we assume that you did get your money back for the extra guests that were unable to be with you on your vacation!

The place was very well kept and clean. Very spacious and great for larger groups of people.
A group of teachers from my school spent the weekend here touring the Amish Country. Will definitely go back. Really appreciated the owners checking in from time to time to see if we needed anything.
We were looking for a relaxing weekend away with friends, and we got exactly that in this beautiful, and spacious home. Every amenity that we needed was provided. The home was very quiet considering that it was located right off the main street. The home owner, Alex, couldn't have been any nice and accommodating to us when we had a need priory to our stay. Unfortunately, we even had to bother him because we had locked ourselves out and he seemed perfectly fine with letting us back in. This is the perfect home away from home for visiting the Amish country.
Great location for our family to unwind.
When we arrived, it was rainy and cold, but the barn was so warm and inviting. My family as well as two sisters and their families were looking for a quick weekend getaway where we could relax. This was the perfect spot for us.
I will definitely try to book here again the next time we come to Amish Country.
Dawn Rose and accompanied dear guests:
We are delighted to hear that you had a wonderful time at the Chestnut Barn. Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about our facility and how it worked out for you. We appreciate reviews both good and bad. While good ones make us feel proud of our property and service, yet the bad one's let us know if by chance we have missed or overlooked something critical in serving our guests.
We are delighted that we were able to serve you to the best of our ability and look forward to your return to Holmes County Amish community and to our Chestnut Barn.
Please don't forget to tell your family, friends and co-workers about 'The Chestnut Barn' in Amish country, Ohio (on VRBO)!
