ADDRESS: 2113 MAIN ST./US ROUTE 62, Winesburg, OH 44690 (for direction on how to find this address, please scroll down to "Location")

Within minutes from Berlin, Sugar Creek, Millersburg, and Charm, Ohio, The Chestnut Barn is located in the heart of Amish country in the quaint and historic farming town of Winesburg, Ohio. Approximately 7 miles from the bustling tourist area (Berlin), the Chestnut Barn provides a true picture of Amish life in Holmes County. Surrounded by farms and rolling hills, long walks are a wonderful experience. Although our little town does not even boast a traffic light, you will be just steps away from the Winesburg Park which has a large playground and picnic pavilion. A few steps in the other direction is our historic general store. Not only will you find a deli serving Amish meats and cheeses, our general store also has a carry out which serves a varied menu that includes the area's most popular pizza, roasted chicken, and a full service ice cream shop. Amish restaurants and shops are just a short drive in any direction.

Please be advised that even though it is quite a spacious house, it is not suitable for small children or the elderly. It is not handicap accessible. On the main (ground) floor the downstairs bedroom is one step down from the rest of the floor (not quite evident in pictures) and the shower room is also one step bellow the main level. For people using a walker or a wheelchair, we regret to inform you that unfortunately this is not an ideal property to rent.

Located In the back yard of a c.1830 (chestnut) log house, this recently transformed barn has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a giant kitchen and a great room which can be used for gatherings, seminars, or group meetings and fun get togethers.

There are numerous sites to see and Amish country life to be experienced here in Holmes county all in the vicinity of this old barn with modern comforts and furnishings.

Perfect for large group!

  • 5 of 5

I held our women’s retreat there. There were 9 of us. Large open space for gathering for bible sessions. Very comfortable sleeping (even the fold out couches)! The owner was super nice and he even unloaded our vehicles for us as it was raining when we arrived. I was truly impressed! It was stocked with more than enough linens and toiletries, cleaning supplies and kitchen pans, dishes etc! I highly recommend it!

Absolutely perfect for our direct sales team retreat!

  • 5 of 5

The layout of the barn was everything we could have asked for! The large open kitchen/living room area allowed all of us plenty of space for group activities. We did a scavenger hunt around Winesburg and fell in love with the quaint little town. Whitmer’s pizza was delicious and the staff in the store made our stay so comfortable. It was so nice to just walk a few steps and have access to drinks, snacks, ice, etc. We were able to spend a little time with Jean! She is absolutely phenomenal and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I hope to return to this property several times in the future!

Time Away

  • 4 of 5

Overall it was a great place. We were not to wear our shoes in the house but I found it very difficult to walk on the kitchen floor without shoes. It was uneven. Other than that it was good.

small town quaint meets Amish country

Wonderful stay in Winesburg for our group of six. Loved the spacious renovated barn. The coffee shop up the street - The Beacon- is a must visit. Thanks for the great hospitality. We will miss hearing the clip clop sounds of Amish buggies passing by.

Owner's Response: Dear Joyce and Friends: Thank you so much for your kind and honest words of review. We do try our level best to present the Barn just as it appears in the pics plus the added hospitality, of course, at no extra cost to us. We try to give and do all that we can to make our guests feel at home. We are delighted that you had a wonderful time. We will look forward to your next visit next year or sooner maybe in the fall when Holmes county transforms itself into the most beautiful picture. The fall colors in Holmes county and the surroundings is what my wife calls, 'the natural fireworks of God' truly something to behold. Sincerly Alex & Jean

Great place to stay, very clean and well appointed! Only problem was an electrical out in first floor bath didn’t work and television was temperamental. All in all I would recommend this ‘Barn’. Awesome getaway, close to everything!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for staying with us and leaving us such wonderful words of your experience with us. We are so sorry for the tripped fuse in the fusebox for the downstairs powder room. We will try to have it fixed as soon as possible. We are not sure about the temperamental wifi Smart TV, we have never heard of or experienced this problem before. And again, we will try to find out what the problem might be and see if it is fixable. We look forward to hosting you again, either next year or even before that, if your schedule allows. Sincerely Alex & Jean
