About this property

Riverfront Mountain Cabin w/Game Room 12 minutes to Downtown Asheville

River Rock Cabin
Come see why VRBO ranked River Rock Cabin one of the top 10 cabins in the US in our second year open and why we have over 400 five star reviews, 12 minutes to downtown Asheville and less than 5 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Folk Art Center. The most visited site on the 469 mile parkway. It’s an easy Uber ride to enjoy the breweries, galleries, amazing restaurants and all Asheville has to offer.

Located on a quiet dead end street in a quaint, one way in - one way out, neighborhood, the cabin creates the illusion of being in your own private world. Beautiful bamboo forests flank each side of the property and create privacy. Planted in the early 80’s, the former owner chose clumping bamboo. Not an invasive spreader and it's looked the same for the 18 years I’ve been here. I’ve harvested dead stalks to build the privacy screens on the deck and at the edge of the property, otherwise, I leave it alone. It remains green year round. Come enjoy this Zen Appalachian paradise. Peace and beauty await. Rest, relax and let your dreams soar while you explore a peaceful day on the river. Perfect for tubing, kayaking, and fishing and especially hanging out and relaxing.. The Swannanoa is the most heavily stocked trout river in NC. Controlled by a reservoir, the river typically is bucolic and beautiful, but can get rip roaring at times. It’s power can be impressive. The cabin has a maximum capacity of 4 people and features a queen sized bed in both the private first floor bedroom, and the upstairs open loft bedroom with private bath. It’s perfect for 2 couples or a romantic get-away for 2. Sorry, no pets and no children under 6 and NO SMOKING!

Access for the game room is through the first floor bedroom or from outside.

Lower level renovation in 2021 now greet guests with all of the features from, with a GIANT addition. The lower level garage, in the past used for storage and off limits to guests, has been re-imagined. If you liked the cabin before, you will LOVE it now! The cabin is now open to the river like never before with new see through wire railings on the upper deck. AND the amazing new 600 SF game room. Expansive up close views of the river create a back drop for the new game room where you’ll find a 65” smart TV, 9’ shuffleboard, a dartboard and a vintage 1948 Victor Billiards pool table. Plus a dedicated 10 x 10 foot open area for yoga, Pilates, and stretching or meditating. All of the wood in the game room was harvested from trees I cut down, on a lot about 25 minutes away, to clear a view for the little cabin I renovated there and had the timber milled and kiln dried. I used some of it for the game room. The door latches and pulls are from rhododendron in the yard here.
Early check in is sometimes possible. Let me know what you'd like and I'll do my best to accommodate.
I live next door and am close by if you need me. I’m delighted to say hi and chat if you see me out walking my dogs or throwing sticks in the yard, but I respect your holiday and won’t invade your privacy .

I provide firewood for fire pit outside, 3 dura-logs for inside wood stove, K cups for Keurig coffee maker, filters for drip coffee maker. The cabin has a fully stocked kitchen including many common spices. Shampoo and body wash in showers. Hair Dryer. All linens. Steamer for wrinkles as well as an iron and ironing board. Outdoor gas grill with extra propane tank. Smart TV’s upstairs and in game room. High speed internet.

Come. Relax. Enjoy. Welcome to your sanctuary on the Swannanoa River.

The cabin is full of art and collectables I have gathered over a life time. Every one of them has a story. Please ask if you are curious. Amazing new tree trunk carvings create a private art park atmosphere on the river. Enjoy any of the three firepits along the river.

Thanks for considering River Rock Cabin for your holiday accommodations.

Rustic, contemporary, industrial luxury.

Best cabin ever!
Nestled in Asheville, this is the most charming cabin with a killer view of the river. The yard's decked out with these cool totems, adding a unique touch to the vibe. And man, that river's sound? Totally mesmerizing. You'll catch Lyn taking his adorable dog for a walk along the riverside, soaking in the peaceful scene. It's not just a cabin; it's like a chill oasis where you can escape the daily grind and just vibe with nature. Perfect spot for some downtime and soul recharge, you know? My wife and I had an amazing time at this cabin. The best cabins ever!

Amazing Respite
This is an amazing cabin tucked along the river and just a short drive to downtown Asheville. We greatly enjoyed relaxing by the water, the bamboo oasis, and the game room (pool, darts & shuffle board). Can’t wait to return.

Pleasant and Relaxing Visit!
We had a really nice time at the cabin. Everything was there that we needed — including fishing poles. Lyn was a great host and promptly answered any questions we had. We will definitely be visiting again.

A great location with a great owner
This was one of the cleanest and well-stocked VRBO locations we've stayed at. I expect others will recognize VRBO locations that feel a bit dingy or dirty when you arrive, or where the owners have skimped on basic amenities (I'm looking at you, "one roll of hotel toilet paper per bathroom" locations!). This couldn't have been further from the truth with this rental. The cabin was very clean and very well stocked with basic amenities needed for the stay, from dish and hand soap to logs for the indoor stove. The owner, Lyn, was also incredibly helpful. Due to some very strong winds that blew through the area during our stay, we lost internet for the better part of a day (thanks Spectrum). We also lost power around 11 pm one night (which Duke Energy thankfully restored within an hour). Lyn was giving constant updates throughout the outages, and recommended a really nice coffee shop (Filo Pastries) for internet access we needed while the outage was ongoing. We'd definitely stay here again.

I own Asheville Bulldog Realty and have many years of experience in renovating homes. When this cabin, next door to my home, became available I jumped on the opportunity. Neglected for 10 years and un-lived in for the last 2, I knew the challenges. Every pipe had frozen and the only heat source was baseboard. I spent the summer ripping out bathrooms, refinishing floors, and adding personal touches to this spectacular property. Removing over grown invasive, non-native weeds, trees and vines the first step was to clean the land. The hardly visible river emerged and revealed the beautiful rapids and views you now see. I feel I am a temporary caretakers of this magical piece of land. It brings me great joy to be able to share it with you. The amazing bamboo forest was planted in the 80's by someone who knew the difference between clumping bamboo and the kind that spreads. The bamboo forest has changed little in the 15 years I've owned my home. I did a little thinning to build the sculptural bamboo panel at the end of the property. And periodically thin a bit for views, but mostly it stay where it is and stays green year round. Truly beautiful when it snows.... come see for yourself. You won't be disappointed. More than 250 five star reviews and many repeat guests say this is their go to option in the mountains. Take a look at the calendar. Dates over a year out are already booked.
My refund policy is no refunds so I do not have to maintain an escrow account. However, typically with 30 days notice I give 100% refunds. 14 days notice 50% . Less than 14 days 25%. I have made exceptions and refunded 100% with less notice.

Why they chose this property

Stay here for a true mountain cabin experience with luxury amenities and a gentle mountain river just outside the door. Just minutes to downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I took the Covid shutdown as an opportunity to renovate the decks. New stain and all new steel wire handrails on the river side. The change is transformative. Unimpeded views of the river are a delight you won't want to leave.

What makes this property unique

Just three minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway or ten minutes to downtown, the cabin is an easy Uber ride to the attractions and restaurants in our beautiful city. River Rock Cabin is on a cul-de-sac paved road with easy flat access to the cabin. Designed with attention to every detail to make your holiday experience a feast for all your senses. The cabin has beautiful river views from the great room and lower bedroom. Allow the gentle sound of cascading water to lull you to sleep or into a lazy day dream. This piece of mountain paradise will relax, rejuvenate and inspire you.
