About the property

Elegant and spacious, Shingle Style, 6 Bedroom Home Overlooking The Bay Of Maine

A perfect holiday compound on the coast of Maine. Located in Cape Neddick and historic York Cliffs, it is only 10 miles north of Portsmouth, NH and only an hour by car north of the airport in Boston. It’s here where you, your family and friends can enjoy the holidays.

Set on a bluff overlooking the Bay of Maine and the Pint Cove private beach, it is a spectacular and private setting, second to none on the coast of Maine.

The entry level offers two complete suites with sleeping for 12 people while the main level has a master suite for 2 and wide open living spaces. The walkout entertainment level that includes a theater, and gym for exercise and private yoga, leads to the tennis court, gardens and patio for receptions, parties, and dining and to the pathway to the private beach at Pint Cove.

Full of plenty surprises, this property is on the site of the historic, late 19th century Grand Passaconaway Inn which, until the arrival of the automobile, was the destination for generations of East Coast vacationers.

About Nancy Monks

We are full time residents of Cape Neddick and have been renting our two homes with VRBO for many years. We enjoy meeting our renters from around the world and sharing our beautiful location. I believe in the personal approach and greet each renter upon arrival and give a brief tour of the property and answer questions which I believe helps them feel more comfortable.

Nancy Monks purchased this resort in 1995

Why Nancy Monks chose Southern Coast of Maine

This home is located on the historic site of the Passaconaway Inn, circa 1890, which was built as a resort for people looking to escape the heat of the cities. It sits on a high bluff overlooking the Gulf of Maine and it's private beach. It was raised around the

time of the Great Depression when, with the advent of the auto, it was no longer viable. The Cottage at Passaconaway represents our desire to be part of history and by restoring the pathway system originally set up by the developers, we now are proud to offer lovely pathways along the private pebble beach.

What makes this resort unique

We designed our home for our growing family with ample space for all, and opportunities to engage in many outdoor activities during the summer months. The open atmosphere of the main living level encourages gathering of people while the deck off the dining room and the screen porch gives us access to the outside grand ocean views. The main level offers a stunning ocean view along with a wood burning fireplace. The bedroom suites on the entry level offer privacy and space.

The master suite opens through french doors to the screen porch and enables us to listen to the sounds of

buoys, foghorns, and the rustling of beach stones as the

ocean rushes across them on every tide.

The other bedrooms all open onto decks and porches for

an enjoyable morning coffee overlooking the pond and

gardens or late afternoon cocktails.

After a round robin of tennis, enjoy your lobster cooked and enjoyed on the bluestone patio. It is the perfect end

to the perfect day along the coast of Maine at the Cottage.

Unique and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 adults and 5 children stayed for a week in mid July of 2017. The house and gardens are absolutely stunning. Many unique features in the house including a gym, theater and tennis court all of which our young grandchildren especially loved. The owners were very nice people and responsive to our questions. The beds were all very comfortable and bathrooms featured great showers. The house was perfectly clean. The kitchen, located on the second floor, is very well equipped for cooking. All groceries have to be carried to the second floor. There is a screened porch plus a number of decks for sitting outside. The atmosphere of the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. Great bird watching if you're into that. Two things to be aware of: there isn't a wide open view of the water because the trees are in full bloom in July. I imagine a better view in late fall or winter. Also, while the owners went to great lengths to childproof the central stairwell and decks, there is no substitute for strict adult supervision with little ones. There are also lots of beautiful things in this home. We took pictures of the rooms on day 1, then used those pics at departure to return the items we had moved for safe keeping. Not sure we got everything exactly right but nothing got broken which is a small miracle with 5 grandchildren ages 4 months to 4 years. The location of the house is close to restaurants, beaches and the golf course. This is the owners primary residence and the house is equipped with all the amenities of home. Air conditioners (both Central Air and Window Air Conditioners) were provided and needed as the house can get very warm. We were not able to hear the ocean even with the air off...a small tradeoff for a beautiful home.

Perfect for Large Group

  • 5 of 5

Three generations of family - ages 12 to 84 - really enjoyed this spectacular home. The extremely well-stocked kitchen was open to the large living/dining/TV area, which was IDEAL for celebrating Thanksgiving all together. The interior is super accommodating for group time, but also offers nicely appointed bedrooms and private spaces. The kids, in particular, got a huge kick out of the theater room and gym.

The house is in a beautiful location with sensational ocean views. Even in mixed weather, we loved playing tennis and football and - each day - took long, shoreline walks.

The owner, Nancy, was very accommodating: she walked us through upon arrival, had pre-made pullout beds, and had a turkey pan and warming trays ready for our use. Quite a thoughtful and gracious host.

I would highly recommend this rental property. Every single family member had a great holiday weekend and this gorgeous, one-of-a-kind house was a big part of that.

Magnificent Maine Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family frequently visits the Maine coast and over the past several years we have looked to rent a home to accommodate our group.

The Cottage at Passaconaway features a beautifully appointed home - we met Nancy upon our arrival and she provided a personal tour showing us the expansive living space and the beautiful manicured garden and grounds. The private tennis court was fully utilized and provided a great convenience.

The views from the home/many decks were stunning - we enjoyed our coffee and watched the sun rise several days during our stay. We also had access to a private beach where the kids and adults alike were able to skip rocks in the ocean.

Dealing with Nancy was a true pleasure - her professional approach and availability were first class. As noted above; we are frequent visitors to Maine and Nancy was kind enough to provide some dining recommendations which we tried and enjoyed.

Would highly recommend this property - our experience was terrific.
