About Joy or Julia

We initially had a cabin but loved the area so much we sold our house and purchased a house two doors down. We hesitated to sell our cottage as it has such great character so we decided to try weekly rentals. We have enjoyed that so much that when an opportunity arose to purchase another cottage we jumped at the chance. We have so enjoyed meeting people from around the country and showing them our "best kept secret".

Joy or Julia purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Joy or Julia chose Fort Gratiot Township

This cottage has been totally redone. Whether you want to relax at the beach or view it from your comfortable reading chair, this property is sure to be enjoyed. We are also close to restaurants, shopping, the casino, Canada, freighter viewing, hiking, biking, etc.

What makes this cottage unique

Our community is unique in that we share 400' of beachfront with 80 houses. Even on holiday weekends you will not be crowded and through the week often you'll be the only ones on the beach as many are only here for the weekend. You won't find a much more beautiful and friendlier place to be!

Awesome Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at Joy and Julia’s rental earlier this month (July 2016). Along with me were my wife and two teenage daughters. As advertised, we were within steps of the beach and the park. The house was spotless and it was evident there was a lot of thought and care put into the house. A bottle of wine awaited us (Amy thanks you!) along with a variety of music to select from thanks to the nice home stereo. This was our first time renting in this manner so we were a little hesitant when we first started exploring rentals. We chose this rental because of the great ratings and contacted Joy 8 or 9 months ahead of our rental dates with quite a few questions. She always responded very promptly and was wonderful with providing information for all of my questions. Joy also went above and beyond to call me a few weeks before our rental dates to let me know there would be some road construction in the neighborhood as she was worried it might disrupt our stay…she gave us the option of cancelling without any charge. We obviously decided to go and we had about a 12 hour drive to get to the area. Joy kept in contact with us throughout the day to ensure someone was there to meet us when we arrived (by the way, both Joy and Julia made time to come by to meet us!). Our stay was great…Joy and Julia provided kayaks for us, a nice cart to take chairs & coolers to the beach, the house was very comfortable, and the neighbors welcomed us as if we were moving into the neighborhood! During the week we took a little time to drive across southern Ontario for an overnight trip to Niagara Falls. It was awesome! The only con with our trip is we ran out of time…the week flew by so fast. I didn’t think it could get better, but you know what? Remember the road work I told you about above? Without any prompting at all, Joy refunded 20% of our rental cost because she thought the road work was disruptive while we were there...even after she called us a few weeks before our trip to warn us. She truly wanted our stay to be special and refunded a portion of our stay for something she had absolutely no control over! Very impressive. When we go back to the area, you better believe we will be contacting Joy and Julia to stay at one of their places! Thank you for a memorable family vacation!

Amazing Lake Huron Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed in Joy and Julia's cottage for two nights. It was incredible.

The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The beds were amazing; we've stayed in plenty of places where it's obvious the owner just put in a cheap mattress (and cheap sheets) to cut costs, leading to a very uncomfortable night. Not so here. The beds were far more comfortable than our beds at home.

Joy was our hostess for the weekend, and it was a true pleasure meeting her. She exudes warmth and kindness, and she went out of her way to make our stay special. When we arrived there was a beautiful bouquet waiting for us, as well as a delicious bottle of Bordeaux. We appreciated these thoughtful touches so much! She even provided fire logs for us, if we wanted to make a fire.

Other thoughtful additions include shampoo, conditioner, and really nice shower gel in the bathroom, laundry detergent, as well as spices, Ziplocs, and condiments in the kitchen. Basically, all the things you don't want to have to buy on vacation, but usually have to if you're going to be cooking at home. Joy also provided a wagon with chairs you can take to the beach.

A few steps away from the cottage is a lovely little park, right on the lake. Our son loved playing on the swings and slide, and it was nice to be able to retreat to the shade while still being right on the water. The lake (and beach) was very clean, and we found several Petosky stones.

All in all, this is the nicest home we've rented, ever, and getting to meet Joy made it all the more special. We would love to rent here again.

A Haven at Lake Huron

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cottage. The view from the dining area is beautiful , you are able to see majestic sunrises. 2 couples stayed here and there was room for more if necessary. Very comfortable beds and nice linens. It was nice to have a washer and dryer if needed. The property was in mint condition- fresh and spotless. A perfect place to gather and relax. We look forward to returning someday. Thank you Joy, for your attentiveness.

First, if you're looking for a place to sit back and relax and take in gorgeous views of Lake Huron or walk on the beach, look no further. We had no problem with six people in this adorable and very contemporary house, including all our hockey bags and winter gear. They have every amenity I can think of and offered to help with anything we would find wrong (we found nothing wrong, btw). After a long drive, the bottle of wine and fresh flowers were so nice to arrive "home" to. Joy and Julia could not possibly be more wonderful. Maybe what stood out the most in terms of "above and beyond" is calling Joy at 6AM in the morning in a panic because my Tahoe battery had died! Next thing we know, Julia was there with a portable battery charger and offering to take the kids to the rink herself if that didn't work! We never expected that, but I would give their care and concern for their guests more than perfect ratings if I could. And back to the HOUSE description, it is beautiful and super clean and super accessible to downtown and the rinks etc. It was perfect to relax after a long day out and about. The people in this little neighborhood are so friendly and everyone made us feel right at home. The lake is a few steps away and so is a nice big area of lawn with swing seats for adults and playground equipment. All ages can enjoy.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the fantastic review Claudia ! It was a pleasure meeting you, Ingrid, and the families! We truly were happy to be able to help you out. It would have been terrible to come all that way and miss the game. So glad you all made it safely home after snowmagedden! We really hope you come back to enjoy the lake in the summer or anytime:-) Best, J&J

Something for Everyone

  • 5 of 5

Great location! This beautiful cabin provides that up-north lakeside experience with only being 5 minutes to all the wonderful things that Port Huron has to offer.

The cabin is beautifully decorated with a easy-breezy beach feeling. Cool pastel colors throughout with a few whimsical antiques mixed in. We were treated to fresh flowers and a bottle of wine! You are steps from the beach that provided rock hunting, walking and great photo opportunities. Inside the cabin was a big screen t.v., dvd player, netflix, etc. We enjoyed a night relaxing in front of the fire enjoying a few movies.

My friends and I rented the cabin for a winter get-away, but would love to go back in the summer. The owners were wonderful!

Outstanding experience

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is beautifully kept and impeccably clean. The accommodations are top notch, and it feels like a nice, luxurious getaway while staying there.

The view of the beach is outstanding, and the beach and park accessible to tenants is vast and beautiful.

The location is ideal, with Port Huron very close by and more beautiful, shoreline scenery and small towns within short driving distance as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would highly recommend this rental to anyone interested in a getaway in the Port Huron/Lexington area. It is really top notch!
