About Linda Lanzl Hoagland and Cal Hoagland
Hi there! Our family—Cal, our Australian Shepherd, Buffy and myself, Linda—would like to welcome you to our beach home. We bought this place so we could eventually retire near the ocean. In the meantime, we’ve taken a lot of pride in decorating to make it feel truly like a home away from home, with all the amenities (and a few extras) to create a warm, inviting and peaceful place for our guests. Our neighborhood is safe and the folks are warm-hearted and full of that unique Santa Cruz spirit. Cal and I love to travel and are blessed to have visited many exotic and wonderful locations around the world, and this is why you will find a host of travel and destination books from places we’ve enjoyed. If you’ve also been bitten by the travel bug, have a look through them and enjoy!

Why Linda Lanzl Hoagland and Cal Hoagland chose Eastside Santa Cruz
We chose this location because it’s a wonderful neighborhood near one of the best beaches in Santa Cruz. The beach is just at the end of the block and it’s very dog friendly, which was important to us. Walking the shoreline, we’ve spotted many otters, seals, porpoises, and even whales. We also love seeing the plentiful pelicans line-up in formation and glide over the surface of the water. We wanted a home with a nice-sized backyard, which was difficult to find, especially this close to the coast. But we found one! And our landscaped backyard is one of our favorite spots. We were thrilled to get everything we wanted with the Beach Lover's Retreat, and we love sharing our cherished place by the Pacific with others!
What makes this house unique
Our home has a distinctive tropical yet modern flair, with every aspect chosen with the comfort of our guests in mind. The kitchen is completely renovated and is stocked with everything you need. The bedrooms are spacious and luxurious. The bathrooms have a nautical, yet Zen, feel. The backyard is a real treat with patio furniture, a gas BBQ, lounge chairs and a wonderful fire pit to roast marshmallows and hotdogs and cozy up to on brisk nights. You can hear the ocean waves from here. We also have a wonderful sitting area in the front of the house and folks love it because you can people watch and wave and say hello to neighbors, or sip and savor your morning coffee. It really makes you feel connected to the neighborhood. And we enjoy being hosts to our guests to ensure they feel special—like locals!—and have a great Santa Cruz visit.
