About Laura A. Allison

Off season, we reside in Fontana, Wisconsin, a small resort community close to Chicago, and Milwaukee. For the past 7 years, we have enjoyed winter in Arizona, having owned three homes there. Our favorite home, by far, has been the Peralta Trails home, as it is so well fitted into the wilderness territory, and is less built out with the urban sprawl, and yet there is every convenience very close by.

We love hiking the many trails of the Superstition Mountain, golfing in the many surrounding golf courses, playing pickle ball in nearby Apache Junction at the community center, hiking and picnicing at the Boyce Thompsen Arboretum, doing day trips to other areas of AZ for art fairs, and gathering fresh farm food from a near by farm in Queen's Creek for our evening dinner. There is much to do for the outdoor enthusiast.

Laura A. Allison purchased this house in 2013

Why Laura A. Allison chose Gold Canyon

Peralta Trails is uniquely situated in the Superstition Mountains. The mountains are legendary for hiking opportunities, and for observing the wilderness territory of native Arizona.

What makes this house unique

The house is cozy and comfortable, and easy to maintain. The private yard has hummingbirds, and quail that visit regularly, and are quite entertaining. The pool and the recreation center are close by, and are beautiful, clean, and well equipped.

There are sidewalks in the community, and many open wash areas of native plantings which provide a beautiful natural landscape. Our dogs really enjoy walks in this community, as well as on the many near by hiking trails.

Great place in Gold Canyon!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and standard poodle and I spent the month of March in this lovely home in Gold Canyon,AZ. Our master bedroom was spacious and had a huge walk-in closet and bath with double vanity. The home was nicely appointed with southwest style art work. My sister-in-law and her husband had their own bedroom and bath and were very comfortable. The office area had a comfortable day bed. The kitchen was well furnished and featured a table that could seat 6. Out on the patio were a table and 6 chairs and 2 zero gravity recliners. Very comfortable for reading. We even gave the fire pit a go the last evening of our stay. The home is only 3 miles from a great grocery store and several good restaurants. We look forward to staying here again.

We just spent 2 months at the home in this listing. Everything about the place was just as the listing says.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend this home. What a wonderful place to stay if you enjoy hiking also.

Drive to the end of Peralta Road and you will find one of the best hikes in Arizona. A hike up to Weavers Needle on the popular Peralta Trail.

Laura ( who was just great to work with ) has plenty of books there for all the different hiking trails. I could go on and on about what a great experience this was and how this home was a wonderful place to stay.

Thank You to Laura for helping us with our first Snowbird experience

Owner's Response: I so appreciate your kind review. Having you stay at our home in Peralta Trails was like sharing a beloved place with dear friends. Thank you for the tender loving care you gave the home while staying there, and for your care of the hummingbirds. It means everything to me that you enjoyed your stay, your first getaway as snowbirds. Hope you continue your migration south in winters to come.

Car: necessary

Boyce Thompsen Arboretum: a beautiful park, botanic garden with hiking trails that meander through an expansive variety of native plants, and cacti. There are picnic areas, and special events, including open air concerts.

Renaissance Fair: an annual event that runs for six weeks in the winter.

A great family venue.

Superstition Mountains: Peralta Trail Canyon Trail is considered the best wilderness territory trail in Arizona. It offers canyon views, and rock formations that are awe inspiring.

Olive Mill Restaurant: a unique industrial style restaurant that serves farm to table, delicious fare. The olive trees that grow on the farm supply area restaurants with great olive oil varieties. The restaurant is located in Queen Creek, a 25 minute drive from our home.

Superstition Mountain Historical Museum and Gift Shop: an amazing museum rich in local history that houses maps, and artifacts related to the mysterious legend of the lost gold mine. Fortune hunters are still actively searching for the gold, sure to be hidden in the Superstition Mountains.

The gift shop features a wide variety of products that are unique to Arizona, including the famed Amethyst jewelry from the near by Four Peaks Mountain.

Art Fairs: for art enthusiasts there are many outdoor art fairs that are close by, and some one hour's drive away. These juried art shows display a wide variety of art styles, and mediums.

The old mining town of Superior: this town is experiencing a renaissance, as it fell it disrepair when the copper mining industry ceased. Now it is being rebuilt, and old main street shops, hotels, and restaurants are preparing for another boom. Very interesting look at the old west, and the mining industry.

Goldfield, Old Ghost Town with restaurant, and buildings from the Old West when the gold rush flooded this part of Arizona. Very close by.

The home is situated at a comfortable distance from Tucson, Phoenix, Scottsdale, where there are numerous restaurants, unique shops, malls.

The Catalina Mountains of Tucson is a fun day trip from the home, as is hiking in the Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale.
