Montauroux is a beautiful Provence town steeped in history and charm, was founded over 1,000 years ago by the Grimaldi family who still reign in Monaco today under Prince Albert. It is also the birth and resting place of Christian Dior.
Located in the Var region of Provence, Montauroux has easy access to vibrant locations like Nice, Cannes and Monaco as well as the picturesque beauty of the lush Provencal landscape. Explore the nearby towns and villages, beaches, restaurants and galleries or alternatively head deeper into Provence and discover the abundant treasures of the region.
Reflecting the area in which it is set, this stylish villa is a wonderful combination of stunning scenery and sophistication. Just a short distance from the belle époque beauty and vibrancy of Cannes, Nice and Monaco, the aptly named ‘Wide Open Space’ is a haven of peace and tranquility. It benefits from a unique architectural design that allows each room to boast beautiful south-facing views of the Provencal scenery through floor to ceiling windows (all with electric shutters for security and for heat and sunlight management) and offering direct access to the gardens and large heated and gated outdoor pool.
The living space is large, airy and open plan with widescreen satellite TV, DVD, CD player, broadband internet, and telephone in the lounge, plus a dining table and chairs, breakfast bar, oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher in the kitchen.
The master bedroom is a wonderfully spacious room with large en-suite (sink, toilet, bath, separate shower), whilst the second and third bedrooms are both large, bright and airy, and set up as one double and one twin. The fourth bedroom is accessed through a separate door in the master suite and is set up with two single beds and a cot (which can be moved easily to another room). The main bathroom is large with a 'wet room' walk-in shower and a separate WC. Outside, the gardens are completely private with beautiful uninterrupted panoramic views. There is a large heated and gated swimming pool and poolhouse, equipped with a seating area. Additionally, in the contemporary landscaped garden there are tables, chairs, loungers and a BBQ.
Although it enjoys uninterrupted views, the villa is conveniently located on the edge of the picturesque and historic town of Montauroux, which was founded over 1,000 years ago by the Grimaldi family who still reign today in Monaco under Prince Albert. It’s also the birthplace and final resting place of Christian Dior. Closer still is the Terra Blanche Resort (formerly Four Seasons Provence) with its spa, kids club and championship European tour golf course. The Michelin star-winning restaurant is quite an attraction too.
The villa is just 45 minutes drive from Nice airport, inland from the coast, mid-way between Grasse and Cannes (30 minutes distance each). Yet, despite the lure of the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera or the charming medieval towns and villages, most guests find it hard to tear themselves away from the beautifully designed pool and gardens, at most managing to head into the village for some fresh raisin bread, or go down to the 5 star Terra Blanche Resort (formerly Four Seasons Provence) for a Spa treatment, the wonderful Kids Club, or for a round of golf on the highly acclaimed Dave Thomas designed championship course.
The village of Montauroux and its neighbour, Callian are extremely picturesque, hilltop villages with numerous amenities including café bars and restaurants.
A very large Leclerc supermarket lies less than 10 minutes from the property. There is a superb local Farmer’s market every week and a street market in Montauroux every Tuesday.
There are over 30 courses within a couple of hours drive from the villa.
Nearby Fayence is a European centre for gliding and you can experience the beauty of Provence from the air with a half hour 'sightseeing' tour.
The Terra Blanche Resort (formerly Four Seasons Provence) and the Domaine de Fayence have excellent spa facilities which are open to non residents.
The local horse riding centre is only 10 minutes away and is available for lessons and trekking.
Sailing, kayaking and water sports:
Kids will love the pedalos at Lac de Saint-Cassien just 10 minutes away, but you also have the choice of sea water sports centres at Saint-Raphaël or Fréjus; kayaking on the pristine lakes of the Gorges du Verdon, or the beaches of the Côte d'Azur.
For the kids:
If they get tired of all the other activities, Marineland in Antibes, and the Zoo in Fréjus are always popular as well.
Gorges du Verdon and Lac de Sainte-Croix for breathtaking scenery.
Grasse is also the 'perfume capital of the world' and lies 30 minutes from the house. Spectacular old village with winding streets and stunning views. Excellent restaurants and cafés. There are endless opportunities to sample and purchase perfume, as well as visits to the manufacturers to see the rose petals being transformed into scent. Make your own perfume too.
Visit Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, the preferred hang-outs for many celebrities. Amazing night-life with many clubs, bars and restaurants.
Saint-Tropez is perhaps the most famous beach resort in the world after Brigitte Bardot arrived in 1956 to make the film ‘ t Dieu Créa la Femme'.
Since then, Saint-Tropez has become synonymous with its celebrity lifestyle and Mediterranean chic.
It certainly is an appealing place; a little fishing village on the Southern shores of the Golfe de Saint-Tropez. The 'Vieux Port', with the old town rising above the Eastern quay is where you'll get the classic Saint-Tropez experience. Choose from many sidewalk cafés to just sit and watch people go by.
The village has a huge choice of shops, cafés, restaurants, picturesque squares, winding streets and beautiful architecture to admire. Lively night-life clubs and cultural events.
There are several beaches to choose from.
Cannes, Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël all have extensive beaches to choose from and plenty of shops, markets and restaurants. Fréjus has a Roman amphitheatre and hosts many summer concerts.
Just outside Saint-Tropez is Port-Grimaud, a charming Provençal town built in the 1960's and based on the layout of Venice; brightly coloured houses stand (and float) on private lagoons and waterways. It is a truly spectacular sight. Perfect for a gentle stroll to admire the architecture and the boats. Lots of cafés and brasserie restaurants. Boat trips leave here for a tour around the bay.
Facing Saint-Tropez across the gulf is Sainte-Maxime, a pretty and traditional Riviera town with long promenade and palm trees. Delightful stretches of Mediterranean beaches with all water sports. No better way to spend an evening than to choose one of the restaurants or bars on the waterside and just watch the boats and the lights out on the bay.
When we discovered Wide Open Space we knew we’d found something special.
To find such a calming contemporary property in such a stunning location was too good an opportunity for us to let it pass by.
Over the last 10 years we’ve had wonderful feedback from family, friends and guests who have stayed at the villa, and such positive comments encourage us to add even more features to make the property even more welcoming and comfortable.
What do the kids love about it?
1. The pool, the pool, the pool – kids love the heated pool!
Even in warm climates pools can be really chilly, but with fortunately for Wide Open Space guests, the pool is both heated and gated for safety.
2. Pedalos on Lac de St-Cassien
Lac St Cassien is only 10 minutes away and the pedalos are huge fun for everyone!
3. The Kids Club is Fabulous - Terre Blanche Resort – Kids Club
The Kids Club at Terre Blanche promises an endless array of possibilities for 2–12 year-olds.
Everything has been carefully thought-out, developed and created to the same exacting standards and high quality that exists for the grown-ups.
There’s a whole world of water-based activities waiting for them in the large swimming pool, reserved exclusively for them, while mum and dad watch on from the comfort of their loungers.
Fun-filled playrooms are filled with toys and games to stimulate their inventiveness and imagination, workshops explore the local arts of Provence – they can even learn the typically Provençal game of pétanque (or ‘boules’).
There are outdoor activities waiting to be discovered in the wonderful, natural spaces around our resort. Themed outings – based on bee-keeping, botany or the animal park – give kids a chance to discover the beauty of the natural world and an insight into how fragile it can be.
A video games room and a lounge complete with home cinema round off this Club.
Children are supervised by a qualified, dedicated and friendly team of staff.
Our kids use the club, and many of our guests use the club – the kids are always excited to go back again and again.
Non residents can buy access to Terre Blanche Kids Club – 2015 prices were €50 full day, €25 half day per child – please visit the Terre Blanche Resort website or contact the hotel directly for more information.
We have really enjoyed this place situated in the heart of the Fragance and Perfume villages of Provence. Not far from St. Tropez and Nice, we enjoyed the view every days as well as the village atmosphere and organic végétables and wine markets
My wife, myself and four close friends enjoyed a wonderful stay at this tranquil location next to the picturesque village of Montauroux. The villa, beautifully designed by its owners, the sun terrace and large swimming pool are the ideal place to relax and soak up the views of the stunning local landscape. We also found it the perfect base from which to explore the region including Cannes, Nice and the nearby villages of Callian and Tourrettes. Nothing is more than 30-40 mins drive away. A highly recommendable stay for anyone wishing to visit this part of southeastern France.
We've stayed at lots of villas but this one is in our top 3 for sure! What we liked most about this one is the peaceful location, the heated pool and the overall villa layout.
You feel like you're totally away from it all - but the reality is that you're only 10 minitues away from shops and restaurants, and within a 30 min drive you can get to Antibes, Cannes and loads of other places.
Highly recomment a trip to the lake for a bit of boating, and a lazy day at the Terre Blanche (previously Four Seasons) spa, kids club and pools for a lazy and indulgent
Fantastic place - wish I owned it!
The Wide Open Space villa is a perfect spot for a relaxing get-away. The house itself is a beautiful, contemporary space and it has so much natural day-light that we really missed when we came home. The pool is a lovely addition that we used every day. We had our 5 month old son with us and the villa really suited our needs. The beautiful scenery, fabulous accommodation and easy access to lots to see and do made this a truly memorable holiday.
