About this property

Spectacular Home in Downtown Saint Andrews

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Town of Saint Andrews charges a mandatory 3.5% tourism levy that will be added to the Room+Cleaning rates listed here via an additional payment request not reflected in the rates shown here.

Description:

Windrose is a beautifully renovated home, built in 1830, packed with character while offering all of the modern conveniences you’d love to have in a home. The main house sleeps 12 in 6 spacious bedrooms and 4.5 baths. The Master suite has a 4-piece en suite bath. The living room, study, charming sun room and expansive patio and yard allow plenty of spaces for families to gather while also allowing for some quiet time. The beautiful dining room seats 12 with extra seating at the nearby kitchen island. The gorgeous five burner gas range along with double sinks and two available refrigerators make the frenzy of large-group cooking almost a fun experience.

The grounds are surrounded by 6 foot hedges and mature trees giving you unusually secluded privacy for the location. The large brick patio is well furnished with a grill just steps away from the beautiful yard and boxwood rose garden.

The location is spectacular. Saint Andrews offers plenty of beautiful rental options, but none come close to providing this spacious, private property in the heart of downtown. Instead of driving three or four miles into town and looking for parking on busy summer days, you simply walk out the front door and stroll an easy block to the nearest restaurants, wharf, shopping, pub, whale watch tours, museums and Kingsbrae Garden.

Winter rates reflect the fact that there is some winterization that is required on this big old house including window film, insulation and no access to the (cold) sun-room.

NOTE: There is a separate in-law suite in this building this is generally rented to a different party. Please inquire if it is available if you need more space.

Amazing!!
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful, historic, very well preserved and restored house in St Andrews. Everything was perfect. There were 9 of us - all adults - and lots of room for all. The kitchen and dining room are large and bright. The kitchen is well equipped with more than enough dishes, pans, etc. The beds are extremely comfortable. The backyard is large and welcoming with deers visiting now and then. The location is perfect - so close to the main street and the pier. The host Tom is extremely helpful and nice. He went out of his way to accommodate us which was very much appreciated. He made a wonderful experience even better. I highly recommend this property - I would go back anytime. One of my best numerous VRBO experiences. Thank you Tom!

Welcoming Windrose
Dear Tom, I cannot think of one other aspect of our stay that could be improved upon! Built in 1825 your lovely home embraced us like a warm hug. Our family of thirteen fit in with room to spare. The beautiful bones of this historic house were untouched, with the modern upgrades ( kitchen, bathrooms, internet) blended in with grace and thoughtful planning. All the necessities for cooking, family meals, television/cable availability were amply supplied. The large garden with rose maze entertained the children, along with the puzzles and games provided in the library. The generous stone terrace with plentiful cushioned seating invited conversation during the soft evenings. The deer with their fawns provided entertainment as they grazed on the overhanging branches. We felt honored to have spent such happy hours within Windrose’s embrace. Thank you Tom for allowing us this very special sojourn in the center of St. Andrews. We can only hope to be lucky enough to do it again. Many Thanks, The Welstead Family August 2023

Good Location Best For Summer
House was huge. Beautiful kitchen and dining area. There were no welcome instructions to cover how to light gas stove, where things are located, how to connect to wifi and how the heating works. This was in December and this is an old house with what looks like original windows, its cold. The heat you have to turn on and leave on to slowly hit the temperature where you don't need a sweater and scarf inside. The host was helpful and checked in via text frequently. Any issues were dealt with quickly. Definitely ideal for warmer weather months.

This wonderful house has been in our family since the mid 1980's. We visit St Andrews frequently and miss it when we're not there. We love to renovate and with the help of some great local contractors managed to put a shine on this place. There's always more work to do in a nearly 200 year old house, but we're taking a breather for a while and are happy to share it with others.

What makes this property unique

St Andrews is a pretty unique place with some special homes. We love ours because it's spacious, bright and in the middle of everything. Architectural character throughout, mixed with modern touches to make for an easy, comfortable trip. There's something great about hitting the grocery store at the beginning of the trip and just setting up camp for a week in this house.

It's all on foot after the first couple hours. For us, that emphasizes that we're away from our normal routines. No cars, no trains, no planes. Just some good cooking in the beautiful kitchen, kicking back on the patio or taking in the town. It's hard to leave, really. The drive home is just an opportunity to plan the next trip.
