Description of sleeping capacity: Sleeps 8 (4 Bedrooms) Notes on bedrooms: There are 4 large bedrooms each with twin beds, air conditioning, quiet variable speed ceiling fan. fitted cupboards/drawers, dressing table, bedside cabinets, bedside lights, mirror and chairs. The windows and doors are double glazed. They are all fitted with insect blinds and shutters. We can provide a "put up" bed for a ninth person/child. Please ask.

The beach is just 5 minutes walk and good walks are possible both inland from the house or along the coast. The area is still relatively unspoilt being in a Natural Park.
Faro airport is 1 hour 15 minutes (105km), and Lisbon airport is 3-4 hours (300km). Most of the journey from the airports is on dual carriageway or motorway. Car hire is recommended.
NB: The Motorway A22 is now tolled.
Salema is only 5 mins walk from the house There are a reasonable selection of restaurants. There is an Intermarche supermarket at Budens 3kms and Lidl c8kms from the house. Lagos is the nearest big town and is 15-20 minutes drive.
Casa Alexeii was built by the current owner's family in 1965 (before the Algarve was on the holiday map and hence why it is on such a stunning site) and is maintained to a high standard with all mod cons. It is deliberately kept as a family house and is not designed as a holiday let. There is a large selection of books and a number of games kept in the house as well as a considerable range of original paintings.
The garden is ideal for children and private and quiet for their parents! The pool heating system can maintain the pool at 30 degrees in summer particularly if the blanket is used. With use of the pool heating, and depending on the weather, swimming is possible between April and October. The pool has an access gate that can be locked but the more adventurous can climb over the gate or wall.
There is clean and safe sea bathing off the 1km beach. There are plenty of good beaches nearby, other than Salema, and surfing is possible also along the west coast although the waves are powerful.
The village has a good range of restaurants and the shops can provide everyday needs including drink. There is a medium sized Intermarche supermarket c3kms from the house that has a good range of goods and Lagos (15-20 minutes drive) has larger stores and markets. Most sports are available within a 15km radius.
We maintain everything to a high standard and are fussy about detail. As a result we do not get complaints and many visitors come back many times. By having had our Agent for over 30 years any problems that do occur can be swiftly fixed by people who know the house intimately. As we point out the house is our home (the Family spend 3 months/year in it). It is not a "holiday let". As a family we have been in the village for 50 years (5 generations of us!) and are well known as the first foreign house owner in Salema. We make strenuous efforts to maintain friendly relationships with all the Portuguese. As we say, we would have sold it if we didn't derive great pleasure from it - as do our friends who say they look forward to a return invitation!

Why Michael chose Budens
We were one of the first houses built for foreigners in the Algarve and the first in Salema. The house was completed in 1965 and the structure has stood the test of time. It has been continually updated so has all mod cons but retains the character of its' time. The greatest compliment that was paid to us was when a friend said how clever we had been to convert an Algarve house! It has the great advantage of being totally on its own on a 2000sq m (1/2 acre) plot and so is quiet but it is only 5 minutes walk to the beach, local restaurants (increasingly good) and shops. The sea views from the house are fantastic. The pool below the verandah has a well marked shallow end for children and there is plenty of shade but 6 sunbeds for those who like to toast themselves. A great place!
What makes this villa unique
There are 3 bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor and a suite of bedroom and bathroom upstairs - all air conditioned. All have been renovated.. There is a big sitting room cum dining room although in summer everyone tends to eat on the verandah which has a large extendable table and plenty of chairs to relax on. It is a great place for families and children (especially younger ones) or a party of friends. For cooks the kitchen is fully equipped and there is a gas BBQ. For those that want to eat out the village has a good choice of restaurants. All day to day shopping can be done at the Intermarche supermarket/ petrol station - 3kms from the house. For the more adventurous there are plenty of walks (you can walk anywhere more or less) and surfing on the west coast beaches.
