About the property

Farmhouse in Santa Maria Nuova, Le Marche, Italy - Peaceful Location, Wonderful Views

Casa Rosa is a large traditional farmhouse, surrounded by oak trees and a large private garden and set in the rolling hills of Le Marche, overlooking a quiet valley where the only sounds you hear are birdsong, church bells and rustling leaves. The house is restored to modern standards, but retains its original character and offers comfort and privacy. A large swimming pool is available for use in the summer months, and the local village with many shops and facilities is only 2kms away.

About Jenny Fanshawe

This part of Italy has always been an intrinsic part of my life because my mother is Italian and I myself was born in Ancona, although I was brought up in England. As a child, we spent most of our summer holidays in Ancona with the Italian side of my family, and, fortunately for me, my (very English!) husband loves Italy and all things Italian. We even spent our honeymoon in a "casa colonica" not far from Jesi. The opportunity to buy Casa Rosa came up in 2000, when we had 3 youngish children and although the house needed complete restoration, it seemed the right time for us to renew our relationship with a country we knew and loved.

Jenny Fanshawe purchased this farmhouse in 2000

Why Jenny Fanshawe chose Ancona region

We were shown Casa Rosa one warm October day in 1999, and immediately fell in love with it. We had not intended buying a house in Italy, but the old farmhouse (left abandoned for many years) was not only structurally sound, but was located in such a serene and beautiful place that we could not resist the siren call to make it our own. It took us nearly 3 years to restore, and thereafter it became our holiday home to which we retreated every summer with our 3 children. The nearby village of Santa Maria Nuova became our second home, to which we have always been welcomed with warmth and hospitality. The children learnt about their Italian roots, and we all enjoyed the warm Italian summers - and delicious food and wine!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Casa Rosa is special house because it offers a completely relaxed family holiday, with home comforts and the serenity of its quiet location. It is also very close to the bustling village of Santa Maria Nuova, so it is quick and easy to shop and enjoy the simple pleasures of a traditional Italian pizza or ice cream. The airport of Ancona is only about 25 minutes drive away, so there is no long trek to the house after an exhausting journey out - you can jump into the private pool within an hour of landing! Neither Jesi nor Santa Maria Nuova is a tourist resort, so you are immediately welcomed by the residents as a special visitor to their homeland, and they will be keen to show you the Italian way of life. There are plenty of places within an hour or two's drive for sightseeing, and the beaches (which also provide many opportunities for delicious fish restaurants) are close enough for an easy day by the seaside. The views from the house are wonderful and the tranquillity of its position is both refreshing and relaxing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay in your house was just magical! The scenery is amazing, the peace is wonderful and the Italian towns and villages around are wonderful too. Very many thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Notes on accommodation: Casa Rosa is available the spring and summer months. Most of the accommodation is on the first floor (apart from the downstairs sitting room) and the high ceilings and elevated position ensure cooling breezes in the summer months. The pool graduates from the shallow end of 1m to 2.4m at the deep end, and may be unsuitable for toddlers. The pool is open during July, August and September, and may be opened, on request, in June. A Mothercare travel cot is available at the property. Outside: Gardens of about an acre surround the house, laid mainly to lawn with some shrubs; mature oak trees around. The private pool is 12m x 6m, and is 2.4 metres at the deep end, with diving board, steps in and tiled surround. There is a hammock for quiet snoozes, 4 sunbeds, 2 parasols and a barbecue, together with outdoor dining table and chairs. A sunterrace is situated outside the downstairs sitting room, and leads, via 4 steps up, to the swimming pool. Parking for several cars is available at the front of the house. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and bath towels included, but not beach towels. Property and linen cleaned between bookings.

Tranquil retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Casa Rosa (our first visit was 3 years ago in July 2013). One of the main reasons to return, other than the lovely peaceful setting, is the short 25 minute drive from Ancona airport making Casa Rosa easily accessible, although a car is absolutely essential. The house was exactly as we remembered - very well equipped, fantastic setting and wonderful pool. This time we found the short cut path up to Santa Maria Nuova which was a brief 10minute walk. Fantastic gelateria, 2 great restaurants and a couple of supermarkets are in the village so we felt no need to stray too far away from Casa Rosa in the week that we were there. The wifi worked intermittently but the house is well stocked with books, DVDs and games, including maps and travel guides should you need to escape from the lovely pool and stunning views.

Idyllic retreat in charming countryside

  • 5 of 5

This farmhouse is the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. The pool and cool interior, the pretty walk along a woodland track to the local village for morning coffee and cake, the bee eaters and golden orioles in the dusk, are some of the delights we experienced. Visits to local vineyards, to the town of Jesi for al fresco drinks in the square and to the glorious sandy beaches of the Adriatic are all within a short drive of this haven. I will go again!

Stunning setting

Beautiful old farmhouse in stunning scenery with a larger than average pool for a holiday let. The nearby town is very charming and easy to get to. Lovely walks round about or just eat and swim and laze around.

Our quiet sunny retreat in an unspoilt location.

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully situated rural location, very near the lovely village of Santa Maria Nuova. We arrived on a very hot day so the pool was a most welcome relief from the three hour car journey from Bologna.

The interior of the farmhouse was cool and airy, ideal during such hot weather. Prepared and equipped to a good standard and immaculately clean. We were able to make a cup of tea on arrival and even had milk and biscuits ready for us. We popped into the village, which is a five minute drive. It is easy to park there and to locate grocery shops to stock up for the week, also a couple of nice places to eat. The nearest town, Jesi, is about twenty minutes away where there are supermarkets, bars and restaurants a plenty. The coast is 45 minutes away, drive south from Ancona to enjoy some beautiful villages and beaches. Go in the opposite direction to visit really ancient hilltop villages with some wonderful architecture. The farnhouse had plenty of brochures giving us the heads up for the best places to see. All around, this was a fabulous break and an ideal destination to suite my wife and I. No Brits, no fish & chip shops and no English bars, just what we wanted!
