About Richard Venning

My wife and I live in the UK, but spend as much time as we can in Italy where we have made a number of friends and enjoy the relaxed lifestyle.

Richard Venning purchased this farmhouse in 2004

Why Richard Venning chose Montegiorgio

We had wanted to buy a second home in Italy for some time before we 'discovered' Le Marche and fell in love with the beauty of the landscape and the rich culture of the area. Early retirement gave us the time and opportunity. With the old farmhouse in such a lovely setting we saw the potential for vacations for both ourselves and holiday makers and were able to incorporate modern facilities into a traditional building. The feedback from guests reassures us that we made the right decision. There is so much to enjoy-the weather, the food and wine, the medieval hilltop towns which still retain their natural charm and the views across the rolling hills. Then in the evening - alfresco suppers, the sun sets, star gazing and the twinkling lights of the distant towns – are all memorable.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We enjoy the tranquillity but also the convenience of Casa Aurelio. All the facilities we need are just a short drive away- shops, banks, pharmacies, restaurants. Yet we feel completely 'away from it all' .In the spring and autumn we enjoy a 'second summer' relaxing in the landscaped garden or on the terrace. There are a number of really nice restaurants nearby specialising in local dishes (eg. game, mushrooms and truffle) or on the coast seafood and fish. We love spending a late evening in summer on the coast when, after the heat of the day the resorts really come alive. We always include a trip to the mountains to enjoy the beautiful views and the alpine flowers.

Super place to stay. The farmhouse was very well equipped and the pool was fabulous. The farmhouse is at the end of a country lane, so you really are in the middle of the countryside. Incredible views. The whole area is very beautiful. Very relaxing holiday.

The perfect getaway from it all vacation house

  • 5 of 5

At first when we found this house on we found it strange that it was listed since 2005 and had only 1 review of a guest that stayed there 3 times.

But don’t let that fact scare you away from booking here…at least, we are happy we did and loved our stay at the house.

We are a family of 4, with two young boys (9 and 5) and looked for a holiday house away from the hustle and bustle, with a pool, secluded but mainly, allowed us full privacy. Well, all our wishes were perfectly granted here.

The hosts (and owners) of the house are a lovely couple, very friendly, helpful and live as stated in the description, in a separate unit of the house. They are very strict regarding the privacy of the guests staying in the house as we have experienced. It felt we were all alone there but if at any time we had questions or needed tips for trips or restaurants etc., Richard and Gaby where there to assist and advise.

Having traveled many times to Italy and stayed in many different houses over the years, Casa Aurelio is by far for us the best one ever. The views from hilltop are breathtaking, the sunsets even more and we loved the secluded area where it is located. But at the same time, big supermarkets and shopping not too far away (15 minutes by car). And if you want to go to the beach, Porto San Giorgio is only half an hour away by car.

The house has also all the amenities you need for a pleasant holiday. There is a BBQ (which we used on several occasions, it has WiFi, TV (which we did not use at all) and is very clean. The rooms have plenty of storage for clothes etc.

As for Le Marche, it is a beautiful region and we found that people all over here are very friendly and helpful. And at least when we were there, it was very quiet everywhere, just the way we like it on vacation. And if you like to to restaurants, there is an abundance of opportunities to go to, from simple pizzeria’s all the way to top of the bill restaurants.

And of course, our boys and we enjoyed the well maintained private pool very much. It was a perfect refresher before and after some excursions in the area.

We will definitely come back here.

Beautiful Hill Top Location, Private Pool

  • 5 of 5

We have now stayed at this property for 3 times over the last 8 years. It is located in a fantastic hilltop location that affords beautiful sunsets and views to other hilltop towns. The private pool is maintained to the very highest standards and does make you wonder why even go to the nearby beaches?. The local area is awash with things to see and do. We especially like it because you really can get away from the rest of the world, so peaceful and quiet except for the odd thunderstorm at certain times of he year, but if you need it you still have access to TV and wifi internet. You do need a car to take advantage of this holiday home, take your own or hire one but it is a fantastic location. Rome is not to far away if you want to venture further.

The Adriatic coast is about 25 minutes away. The closest resort is Porto S Giorgio but there are many others. Grottamare and San Benedetto del Tronto to the south or the beautiful rocky peninsular of the Monte Conero to the north are an easy drive away.

Flights to Ancona ,Perugia and Pescara by Ryanair from Stansted and to Bologna from Bristol and Edinburgh .Flight time around 2 hours. Ancona is just over an hours drive away. There are also flights to Rome.

Montegiorgio and Rapagnano are a seven minute drive away and have all the basic facilities you will need. The large, modern Girasole shopping centre is less than 20 minutes away on the way to Fermo (15km) which is the provincial capital. The area has many delightful hilltop towns as well as the sophisticated resort towns of the Adriatic. Urbino, Ascoli Piceno and Assisi are towns of great interest and within a 2 hour drive.

Further Details:

For outdoor activities the Sibillini National Park offers a wide range - white water rafting, canoeing, horse riding, quad biking, mountain biking etc. During the summer many towns stage medieval festivals. The outdoor arena at Macerata (23km) stages opera in the summer and is second only to Verona. In the spring the flowers in the mountains are beautiful and in the autumn truffle, wine, chestnut etc festivals are held in many areas.
