Thai food cooked locally is our favourite from the multitude of great small eating houses. Thais are very accommodating with foreigners and we have been the beneficiaries of their hospitality. We love the beaches and their emptiness and have had this property on Samui for 10 years.Great centre for sea travel to neighbouring islands or just sightseeing. The house is professionally managed all year round so there is always someone to help or facilitate.We both grew up in a Northern European climate and love the weather and culture that Thailand offers.We live in Northern Ireland and have both recently retired .

Jungle location overlooking the ocean but only 5 minutes walk from the beach. In the best gated development on Samui.Thai design but western comforts ,easy and inexpensive availability of hire car. The beaches are empty with many great local restaurants.We visited Koh Samui in 2001 and fell in love with the island so we built this house with local construction and German supervision starting in 2003 finishing in 2005. There are many Europeans who have retired to Thailand and live on the island.
Peace privacy sunshine western comforts our own pool and easy access to quality golf. Fantastic food. Koh Samui is by far the best part of Thailand for holidays the island lacks some of the more in your face aspects of other parts and is still quite naive in parts.A combination of Thai architecture and interior western comforts and easy access facilities in a secure environment make an ideal combination for the dream holiday.
This house is just brilliant. Not only were John and his property manager extremely friendly, helpful and quick to respond, but the house itself was spectacular. The photos do not do it justice. Not only is the house big (set over three floors), it is also extremely well equipped and beautifully furnished. It is set in a quiet holiday home type village just off the main road (you cannot hear this main road over the sound of all the wildlife) with great views over the sea. It is about a 5-10 minute walk down from the house to Bang Por beach (one of the most beautiful and quietest on the island). There is a Family Mart and a 7 Eleven in walking distance, if you can stand the heat, and a big Tesco 15km drive away. Within walking distance there are some fantastic, and cheap, restaurants, Muay Thai gyms and spas - I definitely recommend the Vara Spa (at The Sea resort just opposite the entrance to Santi Thani village); if you go between 12-4pm its 30% off - even better! I would recommend hiring scooters for about £5 per day and also hiring a pickup (both can be provided by the staff on site). The map on the site is confusing; the property is on the north coast of Koh Samui.
I cannot find a single fault with Baan Faan, except I had to come home. I have recommend it to all my work colleagues, who may well be booking their next holidays now and I will definitely be coming back.

Coast/Beach:Situated at Ban Por in the gated community of Santi Thani across the road from a tropical beach with many excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk ,set in coconut palms with breath taking views to Koh Phangan and other islands .
There is a shop at the gate for basics and a bar restaurant 300 metres up the hill at Axels again on site .
Samui International Airport is 7 km away. The ferry port of Nathon is 6 km away. Airport pickup is available. Car is desirable but not essential local buses pass Santi Thani main gate, car hire can be easily arranged.
Maenam is 10 minutes drive away, the chic fishermans village of Bophut 15 minutes and the tourist centre of Chaweng 30 minutes.
Handy basic grocer at Santi Thani gate. Large Tesco Lotus 20 minutes by car. Many excellent restaurants and hotels within 10 minutes driving distance. Daily boat excursions to surrounding islands from Nathon Maenam and Bophut. Excellent local diving swimming and snorkelling.A visit by speedboat to Angthon National Park where part of the Beach movie was made is a must and if you hire a car go to Khrong Krut in the south of the island and travel by long tail boat to the uninhabited island of dogs for a BarB Q lunch and superb snorkelling.
