We are Andrew and Lucy and we live here at Peyrenegre with my Mum and Dad, who are now retired and enjoying french life. We know how important your holiday is and we can be as on or off hand as you like. Peyrenegre is not just a business but it is our home and we enjoy welcoming new people in to our slice of paradise and aim to give you a fantastic holiday.
We choose Peyrenegre as we were looking for somewhere that was set in rural france,But that was in easy reach 20 minutes of supermarkets and local attractions. That had land for our two horses, dogs, cats, chickens and ducks. Peyrenegre offers that as it has a no through road and over looks endless open fields of countryside. Here at Peyrenegre you will be able to relax and re charge your batteries and know that your children are safe playing in a safe environment. One family described it this year 2013 as a slice of paradise and they are looking forward to returning to us next July.
We have a heated salt water pool to 28 degrees, that is fully enclosed and alarmed. Along with a play area complete with a sand pit, trampoline, swing ect so that the children can run around and let off steam. Opposite the gites we have an indoor play room full of toys, board games, dvds and a 4 in 1 games table, within easy reach of the gites so that you can keep an eye on them. We are happy to take children with us under supervision to help search for eggs from the chickens and feed them, so you can enjoy fresh eggs whilst you stay here. Also we have guinea pigs that enjoy a fuss, and we are also happy to take you down to see the horses for a pat under supervision. We also have a large vegetable garden so when possible we like to share our vegetable's with our guests.
We had another fabulous relaxing week at Peyrenegre this year (having also been last year) and I have no doubt that we will be back again. The Gites are all very well equipped for a relaxing self catering break. There is a beautiful heated pool and hot tub which we used most if not every day we were there.
The gites are in a lovely peaceful location, however, you will struggle if you have no car.
If the weather is not great then the local area has lots to offer with many markets and castles to visit.
Lucy is a very friendly, helpful and accommodating hostess.
I would highly recommend.
This was our second visit to Peyrenegre and it was just as nice! A tranquil setting with stunning vistas and hospitable hosts. Our kids equally enjoyed the stay, making new friends and enjoying the games room. The area also has a lot to offer and we made some new discoveries second time round with a great little golf course, lake and river beaches.
We are a family of 3, mum, dad and a 9 year old daughter.
Having spent several previous holidays in France, mainly in the Dordogne, this was our first venture into the Lot.
The property is ideally located, mid way between the west coast resort of Arcachon and Cahors to the east. We visited both, although Arcachon was busy on the day of our visit and we spent almost 4 hours in the car getting there, the final 10k taking in excess of 1 hour.
There are several beautiful villages within 30 mins drive, virtually all with local morning markets. There are plenty of activities nearby in which to participate, including canoeing, pony or horse riding and lake swimming.
There are good local restaurants, where bookings can be arranged by Lucy and Andrew although we particularly enjoyed the night markets, where seating is provided and all you need to do is turn up with plate, knife and fork and where you can buy food and drink from the local producers who will cook it for you.
The property itself is immaculately maintained, spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. We took advantage of the large swimming pool, hot tub and our daughter played happily with guests staying in the other cottages , making full use of the games room, table tennis, trampoline, climbing frame and swings.
The owners, Lucy and Andrew are always on hand if anything whatsoever is needed and nothing is too much trouble for them.
They provide home grown vegetables and tomatoes together with eggs from their hens. They are great with the children and take them to feed the hens, brush the horses etc. They really are excellent hosts.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, in excellent accommodation, with fantastic hosts.
We have just returned from 2 of the most relaxing weeks I have ever experienced, and can not emphasise enough what a little piece of paradise that Lucy and Andrew have created here.
The gites are in a beautiful setting, with lovely views, and especially at sunset. We stayed in the newest gite, "Les Noisetiers", which was on the end meaning we had stunning views in 2 directions - an added bonus. The gite was well decorated, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable, with every mod con and kitchen utensil you could ever need - coffee maker, dishwasher, hairdryer to name but a few, plus washing up liquid, shower gel, cling film and everything all thrown in too. Lovely bedrooms upstairs and comfortable beds! Each gite also has a day allocated to use the laundry too - Lucy even leaves out washing powder for you to use - thank you!
The other facilities at Peyrenegre were great too. Definitely the best pool we've had - lovely and warm, perfect depth in shallow end for little ones, safe steps to get in and out and a shallow rim you could stand on even in the deep end, so felt very safe. Our 6 year old learnt to tread water and swim in deep water and we struggled to get him out the pool he loved it so much! Lots of inflatables, floats and sinkers to use. Plenty of chairs, parasols and sunloungers. Our 4 year old loved the hot tub even more - so relaxing and great temperature. Stunning views!
Lots of other super facilities for children too - Lucy and Andrew have thought of everything. Well stocked games room, with Wii and plenty of games, table football, board games, and plenty of other toys. We hardly used this room as had such good weather, but would be fab in the rain! Our 4 year old loved the trampoline and sand pit. I think there were 5 adult bikes to borrow and a couple of children's ones too.
The other major contributing factor to such an amazing holiday was Lucy and Andrew themselves. They couldn't do enough for you, and genuinely went that extra mile to make everything perfect. All the little extras that they provided were so thoughtful and much appreciated. From super local recommendations on days out to directions, emergency duvet washing(!) to a lovely welcome pack and wine, they were brilliant. Lucy had even done a supermarket shop for us before we arrived, so that we had a few basics for the first night.
We wish them every success in the future and would wholeheartedly recommend Peyrenegre to anyone who wants relaxation in a beautifyl setting.
Many of the guests at Peyrenègre make the 2 hour journey to the coast particularly to see the tallest sand dune in Europe (the Dune de Pilat) in the bay of Arcachon and to taste the magnificent seafood especially the oysters. The surfing here is outstanding. There are also lots of "river beach's" One is at Castlemoron-sur-Lot and another at Lougratte a short drive away for swimming and other activities. Such as canoeing or sliding down the flume.
Peyrenègre is in the heart of the Lot-et-Garonne countryside and you will need a car. Flights from the major UK airports are available to Bergerac (50 mins) or Bordeaux ( I hour 30 mins) and car hire is available at both airports. The nearest ports are St Malo and Caen which are 7 - 8 hours journey by autoroute. For other channel ports we suggest an overnight stay to break your journey. Several guests prefer to travel by train - the TGV takes under 4 hours from Paris to Bordeaux.
Although a very rural location, Peyrenègre is only a few kms from local shops. The nearest village is 4 kms away at St Barthelémy with a small shop and a boulangerie and the nearest supermarket is 14 kms away at Miramont-de-Guyenne which also hosts our favourite market. The Lot-et-Garonne is famous for its fortified towns (Bastides) and we are situated in the middle of this historic area.
We are within 20 minutes of Marmande, Tonneins and Miramont -de-Guyenne all of which have supermarkets, banks, a range of shops and a variety of restaurants. There is a market somewhere nearby every day of the week and evening markets in July and August. The wine producing region of Duras is a half-hour drive and the vineyards of Bergerac a little further away at about 45 minutes. Bordeaux can be reached by car in about an hour and a half, or by train from Marmande. Each gite is equipped with a Guest book which gives full information on local amenities and places of interest. We are within easy access of a range of sporting activities including horse riding and canoeing and this is ideal walking or cycling country. We are always happy to recommend places to go and visit one your here, as there is lots to go and see and do in the Lot-Et-Garonne. We provide a range of garden and indoor play equipment for children of all ages.
