John and Jacky Kennedy own and manage Holidays Lanzarote. They have two villas of their own and also work with a friend who has a villa and casita (smaller house) both of which are in keeping with the quality of rural villa that Holidays Lanzarote specialises in. Together with their friends they popularise rural tourism in Lanzarote on their website and through the properties that they market. Owners Direct supply a service which generates enquires concerning the villas - John and Jacky can then contact the enquirer directly and answer their questions / take their booking. Clients can also book directly through owners direct if they wish. John and Jacky also have their own website where additional information can be sought at www.holidayslanzarote.net
The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2001
We first came to Lanzarote on holiday and fell head over heals in love with it´s stunning scenery, volcanic landscapes and sleepy villages.
It didn´t take us long to decide that this was where we wanted to make our home. We bought a partially restored finca in the village of Soo, (Casa Margarita),close to the famous surfing beach of Famara. Our vision was to reform the house and turn it into a luxury holiday accommodation with a home away from home feel. It took a lot of hard work and determination from us both to complete the work on the house but we enjoyed every minute of it and learned an awful lot along the way.
Then, we guess that something made us do it again - taking on another Finca, - Casa Camella, renovating it and again offering it to holidaymakers. Casa Margarita´s location is ideal for simply relaxing or for the energetic there is the possibility of hiring bikes from La Santa village, surfing and kitesurfing in Famara and very popular now also is walking, with signposted routes. Guidebooks that show the routes (and contain GPS waypoints) are available from UK and internet outlets. Look out for Walk Lanzarote by Ros and David Braun - ISBN 1- 899554-94-7. Diving is available all around the island, Windsurfing at Costa Teguise. Ask if you have a specific sport that is not mentioned.
Casa Margarita is situated on the edge of the village of Soo and enjoys privacy to all aspects. The house has a traditional feel with it´s open courtyards, high ceilings and thick stone walls.
With the properties that we own or market occupying a rural tourism market slot, we offer something more to holidaymakers than can ever be obtained when staying in a resort. The privacy and space offered by this rural house is unmatched by resort based properties.
Holidaymakers that stay with us often return again and again, in the knowledge that, as they often say, "it is just like coming home".
We have spent another wonderful 10 days here in Casa Margarita. John and Jacky have created this wonderful place - a little paradise - here in this rural area and they are the best hosts that you can think of. Thank you so much for making our holiday a perfect one.
Andreas and Ingrid, Dusseldorf, Germany.
We totally agree with everything written here - which is why we spend most of the winter either here or at Casa Camella, John and Jacky´s other villa.
So what can I add? loads - but most of all to comment on John and Jacky´s constant attention to keep their properties fresh and revitalised - we never know what to expect - new furniture, new beds, fresh paintwork, fascinating ornaments. A real ´home from home.´ Jenny and Peter Banbury, Scotland (20 Feb to 15 April 2014).
Joining us during the period are: Clare and Paul. We have had atremendous week in the villa. We had the room behind the kitchen, which has been changed since the last time. A lovely guest space. In fact everyone has lovely spaces, and then we all come together around the large dining table. It works very well and we have had a lovely time here. Thank you so much - X.
Also joining us has also been Marion: Casa Margarita casts its spell again - combined with Jenny and Peter´s wonderful hospitality I have had a lovely, relaxing week. When the weather is so perfect the time passes too quickly! Thank you.
And Ursula, who stayed with us following a family bereavement - Casa Margarita filled the role of "Retreat" perfectly for us all. Jenny.
We thought the house was really lovely and having been to Manrique's house during the week we could see where you got some of your inspiration.
It had everything you could possibly want and was more than a cut above the average holiday rental. The standard of finish and the general comfort and style as well as the standard of cleanliness were exceptional. We will certainly be recommending it to our friends.

Thank you for what has been a truly wonderful relaxing holiday. We certainly hope to return. An excellent location to unwind. So many positive comments already made about this well presented, lavishly appointed property there is little we can add! Many have said, as have we, that the photographs cannot do the house justice.
Paul and Kathy Crowhurst - Andover, Hampshire
John and Jacky have an exceptional eye for detail and guests can be sure that Casa Margarita satisfies all the requirements for a rewarding holiday.
John and Cate, UK
We spent a very relaxing week here in February 2017. The property is immaculately finished and designed to a high standard. John was there to meet us on arrival and show us round and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending a stay in Casa Margharita if you are looking for a peaceful getaway.
I am happy to recommend fellow travellers to spend a week or two in Casa Margarita. The property is very nicely designed, well equipped and has a nice homely, yet exclusive feel to it. We loved the private pool area, the nice kitchen and possibility to dine outside – not to mention the bbq. The hosts, John and Jacky, were perfect hosts, quick to adress any question we had.
What a wonderful find this delightful villa was. In the little village of Soo, with 3 small supermarkets and a snack bar (plus a Social Club and bodego which we didn’t try) all within easy walking distance, this quiet, unusually laid out casa was extremely comfortable and had everything.
We are a couple who enjoy privacy above all else and Casa Margarita certainly offered us that. Even for a larger family, or 2 or 3 couples, the layout is such that the bedrooms are all well spread out and separated by courtyards, 2 en-suite and a 3rd bathroom for the twin bedroom or for convenient use when by the pool. The kitchen is well equipped and the main lounge comfortably furnished with sofas and TV, although we did not use the TV. Wi-fi was reliable, but not available throughout the property due to the thickness of the walls and the layout, nor by the pool. The pool itself was fully enclosed by high walls making it very private and, apart from the occasional barking dog (no getting away from these anywhere in Lanzarote) peaceful and open to the sun from early morning until late afternoon. Strategically spaced palm trees provide some shade should you prefer it and the pool heating system kept it at a very acceptable temperature.
A 5-minute drive takes you to the surfing bay of Caleta de Famana with its long sweeping sandy (ish) beach where the more energetic younger generation take instruction from the archetypal long blond-haired surf instructors. Good fun to watch or spend time on the beach, walking or sunbathing. Some good restaurants in the area too and we tried most of those recommended by the owners, John & Jacky in their little red information book. They were extremely helpful prior to our booking too, making contact by phone as soon as we sent our enquiry via the website.
All-in-all, a thoroughly enjoyable break and we can certainly recommend Casa Margarita to family and friends and those looking to have a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the main resorts. We will definitely book again if and when the chance next presents itself.
In 2014 we went to Lanzarote for the first time with the family, pretty unexpected. While looking for a ski trip we ended up in Lanzarote, that’s how things go. So for 2015 we started much better prepared.
We knew what we wanted, and found this lovely looking villa, Casa Margarita in the small village called Soo. Having a heated pool that could be locked, enough bedrooms for us and our two young boys (3 & 5 years of age) end plenty of space to play around in the courtyard and the other in-house rooms it looked very promising to us.
After having send few e-mails with the owners we decided to book for our Christmas holidays. The whole process of making the reservation and fixing the payments worked out well, in good and friendly contact with John & Jacky.
A week before our holiday we got the first nice surprise, we could deliver a small grocery list as we did have a late arrival and the owners, John & Jacky, noticed that and acted on it. Really friendly!
Once arrived in Lanzarote we could find our way pretty easy with the detailed route description we received on forehand and we got a nice welcome by Jacky. The house really fulfilled all our expectations, with the boys in their ‘own’ house on the other side of the courtyard, the well equipped kitchen, the very nice dining room and the small courtyard with massive BBQ. Not to forget the master bedroom with the ensuite bathroom, and that left the 3rd bedroom we didn’t need at all. All looking really good, clean and ready for a lovely stay.
And that is what it all has been, a lovely holiday. Our boys have played around and around and around, all the time. They didn’t even ask for any screen time. With some simple water tanks, few cardboard boxes and (sorry J&J) some leaves from the garden they had a fantastic play time at the property. Combined with trips we made to the beach which is on a 5 minutes’ drive, small hikes on the Lava Mountains and car drives to some nice hotspots on the island. All within a comfortable driving range from Soo.
So, looking back a bit, this holiday brings us real nice memories. We look forward to stay in the casa again this year!
We would love to recommend this lovely holiday home. A delightful retreat we hope to return to again and again.
It was our first visit to the Canaries and we soon fell for the laid back charms of Lanzarote. What's more, the house is situated in one of the nicest villages, so we were able to keep things simple, shopping at the local shop and eating fine island produce, while we relaxed at Casa Margarita.
The house is well equipped, comfortable and spacious, with plenty of shady nooks if the sun gets a bit too hot. Plus there's a cooling pool, although it seems the Lanzarote breeze ensures that temperatures never get too fierce.
We saw plenty of the amazing landscape and eat out on several occasions. We can report that either John's restaurant recommendations are foolproof or that the standard of eateries in the island is very high. Probably both!
John and Jackie's advice on everything from car hire to tourist attractions was also much appreciated. They've created something very special here.
We were excited about having found this property on the Owners Direct Web site and although it looks absolutely wonderful in the photographs, even they do not do it justice! John and Jacky have made "Heaven on Earth" in Soo, a lovely traditional and quiet location on the gorgeous Island of Lanzarote. They have have transformed this farmhouse in to the most incredible holiday destination, it is oozes style, comfort and more than delivers what it promises, it has to be seen to be believed. We fell in love with it upon entering the hall and discovered room after room and outside space of an outstanding standard. John and Jacky were there to meet and greet us, they were very welcoming and helpful, their hard hard work and passion for this wonderful farmhouse that they have loving restored more than meets expectations. It is furnished and decorated to the highest standard with obvious passion and of hard work........................cannot wait to return! It's simply the best!

John and Jacky Kennedy live on the island of Lanzarote, own maintain and manage Casa Margarita personally. It is situated on the edge of the village of Soo, just a 5 minute drive from Famara Bay with its stunning white sand beach, where both surf and kite surf schools operate. There are also several other small secluded beaches all within easy reach of the house. Tourist beaches can be found in the busy resorts, of which the island has three, (20 - 30 mins drive away). We also recommend travel to other beach locations such as Arrieta and between Punto Mujeres and Orzola for a day out.
Arrecife airport is about 20 minutes away. Most visitors pre-book their car via the internet and collect from the airport - although choice of a local company makes more sense than 'internet based' organisations in UK most of which have no local base on the island - only a representative. In case of breakdown etc local companies respond more readily. Car hire is essential.
The village of Soo is a five minute car drive from Caleta de Famara with its famous surfing beach, surf lessons can be booked there. La Santa, a small fishing village, is also a five minute drive. La Santa also has a great surfing spot for the more advanced surfers - La Amendoa is an excellent restaurant there. Both Tinajo and Teguise municipal centres have a range of shops, restaurants and banking facilities. They are a 10 minute drive from the house.
Restaurants and bars - There is a local bar and "Sociodad" (social club / bar )in the village, also a Hmburger bar and there are many local restaurants within easy reach of Casa Margarita. Good restaurants can be found in Caleta de Famara a five minute drive, the old capital of Teguise 10 minutes by car, in La Santa, a local fishing village, nearby Tiagua which boasts two restaurants, a very popular restaurant "Las Cadenas" highly regarded by locals at La Vuegeta - the list goes on. Ask us for tips. The village boasts three Tiendas (local, small supermarkets) two of which are well stocked for daily needs including fresh rolls from the village bakery and local produce (the goats cheese is a speciality). Supermercado Tiagua, two villages away is particularly popular. Supermercado "Unide" at Tinajo is also good and well used by locals. Several large supermarkets exist on the island at Arrecife and Playa Honda where anything you would expect from a supermarket can be obtained. Lanzarote now has several "Mercadona" and also two "Lidel" supermarkets. Bars are most numerous in the mass tourist resorts although local bars and Bodegas are often worth the search. Chemists shops are numerous throughout the island.
We have many cyclists (on - road and off - road) stay with us, also surfers (board and kite), also triathletes. The island is really well known as a winter training destination and many high level sportsmen use Club La Santa - not far from Casa Margarita - as their training base. The reason for our popularity with sporting guests is our quality accommodation, privacy and competitiveness when compared with Club La Santa.
