About Moira & Nigel

We are a married couple originally from Surrey now living in the Tarn, Midi Pyrenees area of South West France.

Moira & Nigel purchased this barn in 2002

Why Moira & Nigel chose Tarn

We visited family already living in the Tarn area of South West France and immediately fell in love with the area with its gorges and lovely scenery in general. We decided this was where we also wanted to live and found our farmhouse with its grange and other outbuildings. After making the house habitable we converted the grange into two gites and built a swimming pool in the garden. We have easy access to airports and a very good road network to the nearby towns and villages.

What makes this barn unique

The views from the house and gites are truly wonderful. The gites each have their own private patio and share the pool with its sun terrace which is in full sun all day long. We are on the edge of a small hamlet of just 7 houses, so there is very little traffic outside the property. It is an excellent base for sightseeing, walking, cycling or just lazing around the pool. We have a laundry cabin with laundry products supplied, making holiday washing easier. Also there is wi-fi internet for keeping in touch with the world whilst on holiday, should you wish to.

Beautiful countryside, lovely villages with a view around every corner. We were delighted with the gite and don’t think we could have done any better.

Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday, beautiful area, gites clean and well equipped.

Scenery breathtaking. We enjoyed meandering round the old villages. Boys enjoyed the local lake. The gite was a terrific base for exploring this part of France. Nigel & Moira could not have been more welcoming and helpful.

Car: necessary

There is a large lake nearby with a beach, safe bathing, sailing and other water sports. The Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts are a little too far to just "pop down to the beach" but can be reached in 3 hours for the intrepid!

Both Toulouse and Rodez airports are within easy reach and offer a wide range of flights. Choice of car hire available at the airports.

We are also reachable from the Channel Ports in one day, distance and times dependent on the port.

Also, travelling by Eurostar/TGV to Toulouse is another option for those who do not like flying.

Our local villages of Tanus and Pampelonne are just 10 mins away. Carmaux (20mins) has a weekly market. Albi - the 'capital city' of the Tarn is just 25 minutes away with its famous cathedral, the Toulouse-Lautrec museum and pedestrianised shopping area with an array of shops, cafes and restaurants, meandering streets and mysterious passages. Nearby we have many 'tourist attractions' from bastide villages & vinyards to the Millau bridge (tallest bridge in the world).

Further Details:

Banks, post office, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, are all within easy reach from Masmajou.
