Photos and Description of this Herrera holiday farmhouse

Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. Traditional cortijo in rural Andalucia, Good access to beautiful surrounding towns and Seville, Cordoba and Granada.

Well presented property, with great outside space, including a large pergola and pool courtyard with barbecue and outside seating. This property has a lovely interior with large living space and an open fire. The property also benefits from a beautiful handmade kitchen and stylish bathrooms.

The swimming pool has all day sun, but parasols and the lovely pergola provide shade and a seating area for shade, relaxation and dining.

About Hilary and Philip Elliott

We took early retirement in 2012 from our work in government and the charity sector in London and immediately packed up our apartment walked the pilgrimage route from St Jean Pied Paul in France to Santiago de Compostela. Galicia was lovely but the sunshine drew us to Andalucia where we have spent the past year converting this cortijo into a house for us to live in and upgrading the already characterful but rather tired holiday let casita.

Hilary and Philip Elliott purchased this farmhouse in 2014

So much to see and do.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay at Casa Ajonoz and the hospitality from Hil and Phil was exceptional. The casita is well equipped and maintained to a very high standard, the pool and surrounds are beautiful, a lovely place to relax.

The location is very convenient to visit many places Seville, Ronda and Córdoba are not to be missed, and El Chirro lakes for a wild swim.

We would love to return as there is so much more to see.

Thank you Hilary and Phil

Fabulous Return Visit!

  • 5 of 5

To return to a place for the second year was a first for us and not without some reservations; after all it’s never quite the same the second time round is it? Actually this was more like coming home for us. Not only did we enjoy the property and its surrounds even more than our previous visit but the owners have continued to make improvements, making Casa Ajonoz about as perfect as it can get, for us at least!

There are a number of things that make this property stand out but what is remarkable is that the cleanliness and quality of the place has been maintained to an extremely high standard. So often on return visits standards tend to drop but not at Casa Ajonoz. The pool area in the mornings was always immaculately clean despite the previous day’s activities and the pool itself was cleaned daily. Similarly the interior of the property was spotless; the oven for example, although the same oven as last year, was like a new one inside, please tell me your secret!

When writing reviews I always try to be a little critical as it helps both owners and visitors improve, however it’s very hard to be critical here. We were asked on leaving “were there any improvement they could make?” Our reply, in all honesty was “nothing”. We genuinely believe their sole mission is to make sure their guests enjoy themselves and they achieve this with aplomb. Always on hand if needed but unobtrusive at the same time.

Our two week stay was a delight but just some travel tips that may help. Insect repellent is a must at certain times of the day. Try and learn some Spanish as very few people speak English. Visit the Cora Restaurant in Herrera, the food is excellent and Conchi the waitress speaks a little English which was helpful. A typical meal here including wine is less than €20 a head. The Mercadona in Estepa, a fifteen minute drive, has all you need including a great selection of fresh fish.

Places to visit include, Ecija, about half an hours drive and the Museum restaurant, fine dining at its best and you can eat like Lords, as we did, for €22 a head. Seville is a must but go early and stay late as there’s much to see and it’s about an hour and a half’s drive. Cordoba is a beautiful city as is Rhonda. I could go on but I won’t!

A wonderful place to enjoy a peaceful holiday

  • 5 of 5

We found Casa Ajonoz to be the perfect antidote to our busy lives in the cooler climes of the UK. The home was beautiful, welcoming, comfortable, and had just what you need to easily move to Spain for week or so. Phil and Hils seamlessly accommodated any needs we had and answered all questions, then disappeared again. Perfect balance of privacy and service. We spent most of the time relaxing by the pool, but when we sought some culture we were not far from Malaga, Sevilla, Granada, Cortona or Ronda- a virtual all you can eat buffet of choices to further explore Spain.

Wonderful and relaxing setti g

  • 5 of 5

This a truly wonderful place! Nothing is too much trouble for Hilary and Phil. They make you feel so welcome but without being intrusive. They have equiped the casita with loads of extras to make your stay easy. We took our 7month old and there was a cot, high chairs and even a playpen by the pool. The accomodation is clean, comfortable and lovely. The location is off the beaten track so perfect if you dont want to do much. Pool is amazing. We hardly left the casita at all it was so relaxing! Can't wait to go back!

Perfect country house

  • 5 of 5

Casa Ajonoz has been tastefully refurbished and thoughtfully equipped. Hil and Phil have worked hard to provide such a relaxing and hassle free experience. The house is very private, although situated by the road and the pool/outdoor dining area is very quiet and superb for those long lazy hot days. All facilities and rooms are spacious and high quality. As a base for sightseeing, the location of the house is great, Sevilla, Jaen and Córdoba are all major cities within easy reach. Don't ignore other smaller places such as Ecija, Antequera or Olvera, all accessible and offering superb views and architecture/culture. Finally, about our hosts, unobtrusive but available if needed, good sources of information and friendly. They provided a scrupulously clean property from which we could enjoy a fabulous two weeks for our hard earned main annual holiday. We will certainly return when we visit this part of Andalucia again. Thanks for everything.
