Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. Traditional cortijo in rural Andalucia, Good access to beautiful surrounding towns and Seville, Cordoba and Granada.

Well presented property, with great outside space, including a large pergola and pool courtyard with barbecue and outside seating. This property has a lovely interior with large living space and an open fire. The property also benefits from a beautiful handmade kitchen and stylish bathrooms.

The swimming pool has all day sun, but parasols and the lovely pergola provide shade and a seating area for shade, relaxation and dining.

About Hilary and Philip Elliott

We took early retirement in 2012 from our work in government and the charity sector in London and immediately packed up our apartment walked the pilgrimage route from St Jean Pied Paul in France to Santiago de Compostela. Galicia was lovely but the sunshine drew us to Andalucia where we have converted the old farhouse and barns of this cortijo into a house for us to live in and upgraded the already characterful but rather tired holiday let casita.

When we first came to this property to view it we both loved it instantly. The large palm trees, the private pool courtyard and the potential it offered for making a house for us alongside the spacious casita for rental.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We, and many of the guests who have stayed here, really appreciate the privacy Casa Ajonoz offers, especially in the swimming pool courtyard with it's white walls and shady pergola. Also, for people who enjoy culture, history and architecture, the house is so well situated to visit the stunning towns and cities and places of natural beauty, all within an hour or so of driving. Guests have commented, that although it has been wonderful to visit Cordoba, Seville, Granada and Rhonda they have really appreciated returning to the calm and peace of Casa Ajonoz with the joy of cooling off in the pool when they return and away from the very busy touristy areas.

Notes on accommodation: Cot and high chair are available on request. Shopping packs are offered at additional costs, details will be sent on booking. Babysitting service available at 10 euros per hour. Please note: for people arriving late on Saturdays, shops in this area do not open on Sundays. The water in the house is from a well – we recommend bottled water for cold drinks. Please be aware that you will need to order a shopping pack for late arrivals. Outside: A very large pergola area to the front of the property with garden furniture and outside lighting. A fully lit pool courtyard area, enjoying all day sunshine. The courtyard area includes built in seating, and a dining table with chairs under a brick built gazebo providing comfort and shade. Also in the courtyard is a large built-in BBQ, an outside shower, and a beautiful swimming pool. The swimming pool is not heated, and will not be available for use from 21st October until the spring dependent on weather. The Pool is private and for the sole use of this house. Utility Room: Small pantry with food storage and washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen supplied - pool towels are charged as an extra.

Wonderful haven and great hosts

5 of us (2 generations of adults) stayed at the Cash for two weeks and had a wonderful time. The house is well equipped and spacious with lots of room outside. In the heat of the Spanish summer the pool is perfect. There is shade available throughout the day and lots of things available to make being in the water fun. The hosts Phil and Hilary struck a fantastic balance between being wonderfully helpful and attentive to allowing us space and freedom to enjoy the Cash undisturbed. Cordaba, Seville, and Granada are all in reasonable driving distance so if you are a city lover it is a great base. There are also some wonderful towns nearby which are well worth a visit. All in all a fantastic place to stay.

Peaceful rural location with relaxing private pool

We have just returned from our stay of just over 2 weeks at the Casa Ajonoz. Phil and Hilary are the complete hosts. So helpful whilst respecting your privacy. The Casa was spotlessly clean and the bathrooms are stocked with baskets of lovely extra toiletries which was a really nice surprise on our arrival.

The pool area and outdoor eating area are beautiful - again unexpected extras provided such as tea lights, citronella candles and cd's / CD player.

We enjoyed our first cup of tea of the day sat on the front terrace chatting to Phil for a while as he swept away any fallen leaves before commencing his daily round of cleaning of the pool.

During our stay we visited Seville by train for two nights, Córdoba for a day and stayed one night in a converted convent by Antequara so that we could take in the distinctive nature parks of El Torcal and the not to be missed Cominito Del Rey - a guided gorge walk were you walk between 3 Gorges on trails and high platforms before crossing a small suspension bridge. Absolutely spectacular. Hilary had advised on both of these before or visit.

Whilst we thoroughly enjoyed our site seeing there was nothing like returning "home" to the pool and our outdoor evening meals cooked on the chimney BBQ.

We were also very fortunate to have the La Vuelta (Spanish Cycle race won by Chris Froome) pass right by the front of the Casa during our stay.

Would not hesitate to recommend and return to in the future.

Spent two weeks in this beautiful house, very rural location, a real get away from it all holiday. set in private grounds in the middle of rolling fields of olives, sunflowers and what i think were potatoes, this house is real find. our hosts were always available if needed but carried on with their day in their own residence which backs onto the rental property. The house was very clean and the grounds and pool were kept spotless by our hosts who gave everything a tidy up every morning before we rose. The house is with a short drive of the major supermarkets, we found Puente Genil to have everything we needed with wide range of shops and a Burgerking to treat the kids. We visited Granada by car and Cordoba by train, the station is 15 min journey from the house and we found it to be a less stresful way of getting about, sadly we never made it to Seville as 40 degree temperatures were a bit much to take in a major city. Could not fault the house, we found the internet a challenge to connect to but acceptable when we could, flies are a bit of a problem and rendered the shading pergola by the pool virtually a no go area so bring plenty of insect repellent, nothing really our hosts could do about the insects as they go where they want. A very well presented property we loads of little extras provided, thanks again to phillip and Hilary.

Lovely months stay

We have just returned from a lovely months holiday at Casa Ajoniz. Hil and Phil are great hosts who provide top notch accommodation with many additional unexpected luxury touches. The accommodation and pool meet exceptional high standards and the hosts worked very hard to keep them that way. We are already looking forward to returning early next year. We found the wifi a bit of a challenge to maintain connection but Hil and Phil are on the case to sort this out.

So much to see and do.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay at Casa Ajonoz and the hospitality from Hil and Phil was exceptional. The casita is well equipped and maintained to a very high standard, the pool and surrounds are beautiful, a lovely place to relax.

The location is very convenient to visit many places Seville, Ronda and Córdoba are not to be missed, and El Chirro lakes for a wild swim.

We would love to return as there is so much more to see.

Fabulous Return Visit!

To return to a place for the second year was a first for us and not without some reservations; after all it’s never quite the same the second time round is it? Actually this was more like coming home for us. Not only did we enjoy the property and its surrounds even more than our previous visit but the owners have continued to make improvements, making Casa Ajonoz about as perfect as it can get, for us at least!

There are a number of things that make this property stand out but what is remarkable is that the cleanliness and quality of the place has been maintained to an extremely high standard. So often on return visits standards tend to drop but not at Casa Ajonoz. The pool area in the mornings was always immaculately clean despite the previous day’s activities and the pool itself was cleaned daily. Similarly the interior of the property was spotless; the oven for example, although the same oven as last year, was like a new one inside, please tell me your secret!

When writing reviews I always try to be a little critical as it helps both owners and visitors improve, however it’s very hard to be critical here. We were asked on leaving “were there any improvement they could make?” Our reply, in all honesty was “nothing”. We genuinely believe their sole mission is to make sure their guests enjoy themselves and they achieve this with aplomb. Always on hand if needed but unobtrusive at the same time.

Our two week stay was a delight but just some travel tips that may help. Insect repellent is a must at certain times of the day. Try and learn some Spanish as very few people speak English. Visit the Cora Restaurant in Herrera, the food is excellent and Conchi the waitress speaks a little English which was helpful. A typical meal here including wine is less than €20 a head. The Mercadona in Estepa, a fifteen minute drive, has all you need including a great selection of fresh fish.

Places to visit include, Ecija, about half an hours drive and the Museum restaurant, fine dining at its best and you can eat like Lords, as we did, for €22 a head. Seville is a must but go early and stay late as there’s much to see and it’s about an hour and a half’s drive. Cordoba is a beautiful city as is Rhonda. I could go on but I won’t!

The airports of Seville and Malaga are both around an hours drive from the property. A hire car is recommended.


Herrera is a five minute drive and has everything you will need. The picturesque town of Estepa is a ten minute drive with bars, restaurants, and the Balcon De Andalucia- one of the areas most popular tapas bars. Ecija is about half an hours drive and has a very good shopping centre and several large supermarkets. The famous and historic cities of Cordoba and Antequera, are less than an hour away. Seville and Granada are about an hours drive and are a must see. The house is close to a high speed rail station (10 minutes drive with station parking).

Further Details:

You will find shops, restaurants and banks just by taking a stroll around Herrera. Details of some good local restaurants are waiting for you in the property for your information. Andalucia is abundant in picturesque mountain villages and stunning countryside including El Torcal National Park in Antequera and the Ardales and Iznajar Lakes. The towns of Osuna, Estepa, Ecija, Cordoba, Antequera, Marchena, and of course Seville and Granada are all definitely worth visiting.

Payment by Bank Transfer (Free) or Paypal (+4%) Credit Card (+4%). £200 reservation deposit converts to a security deposit and this will be returned within 2 weeks of depature, less any charges for damages/breakages. Logs for fire 4 euros per basket.
