About this property

Vermont Treehouse compound: no cleaning fee. Spend a few days In the Trees

THE VERMONT TREEHOUSE COMPOUND, available only for dates between June 1st and Oct. 20th.
In this current time of concern over the Covid-19 coronavirus, I would like to assure all my up coming and future guests that every effort is taken to thoroughly clean and disinfect the treehouses and cooking/eating pavilion between guests. Also that the treehouses are private and located away from other people, as well as being located in a township with a small population.

Detail summary: The rental is a two treehouse compound with cooking/eating pavilion, shower, firepit, etc. The price is $180 per night for 2 people (my price, not accounting for this booking site's add on commission and fees). Additional guests above the 2 are $30 per person per night up to a maximum of 11 guests during the warmer months (July, August, mid Sept) and 5 guest total during the cooler ends of the season (June and mid Sept and Oct). The 11 guest number is only relevant if there are 3 couples (since 3 of the beds are double beds)

Everybody loves the idea of a tree house. There is something freeing, natural and connective to our childhood in the idea. Feel the gentle movement of the structure as it sighs with the wind. Imagine a life off of the ground..... even if only for a weekend. And enjoy the rich sounds of the woods as it becomes your living room.

This two treehouse compound is organic in its feel and design, with living trees intermingling with the structure inside and out. Made from all local materials or reclaimed elements, it seems out of time as though you took a turn and found yourself in the pages of a story book. Don't be surprised if Gnomes or Elves drop by for tea.

The Hermit-Thrush treehouse practically disappears in the woods like the particularly enchanting song of the namesake bird. There is a double (full size) bed on the first level and three single beds on the second level. Perch on the first or second floor porch and listen to the living woods. The windows all have screens. There is even a composting toilet right in the tree house for your convenience. This treehouse is for use during the warmer times of the season, mid June to mid Sept. It sleeps 5 maximum.

The covered pavilion, a few meters away, has electricity (as do the treehouses themselves), lights, it has water, a sink, gas stove, propane BBQ, refrigerator, complete set of cooking/eating utensils, and there is a large table to eat or converse over. There is a natural fire pit to enjoy as you watch the sun set in the West. An outside shower completes the picture. A short walk through the woods to a neighboring field offers excellent star gazing on clear nights.

The Hermit-Thrush Treehouse now has a partner in the woods of Vermont. The Morning-Dove Treehouse.

After surveying many of the guests that enjoyed their stays at the Hermit-Thrush I came to the conclusion that if anything were to change in that magical spot, it should be in the direction of making more beds available so that guests could invite larger groups, entire families or even two couples that could benefit from greater privacy by having separate quarters. My quandary was making this endeavor worthwhile for myself while not putting an experience to commune with nature out of reach for couples or people in general.
What I came up with is a price structure that is very affordable for couples or individuals to come and an affordable per person per night increase for bringing more people.
.
The Morning-Dove is a three season treehouse. It has insulation and can be closed up snugly and heated. The Morning-Dove sleeps 6 maximum in the warm part of the season and only 5 in the colder ends of the season (if you want heat for those colder nights there is a $15 per day fee to cover the cost of propane for the gas fireplace/heater)

Now people can enjoy the earlier spring days as well as get a glimpse of the fall colors. There is a larger living space so that guests can congregate together out of the elements. The Morning-Dove sleeps as many as 5. Six if the outside nest bedroom is used in the warmer months (all screened in). The Morning-Dove has two double beds, and one single bed and the nest has a single pad that an individual bringing a sleeping bag could use.
Both treehouses are equal distance from the cooking pavilion and each has an indoor toilet as well as the outhouse by the pavilion.

Keep in mind that both the Hermit-Thrush Treehouse and Morning-Dove Treehouse are artistic and rustic structures, designed to give a feeling of freedom and organic interaction with their surroundings. Due to these ideals, some safety considerations are not present or reduced. For example, railing heights and spacings are irregular, stair treads and rises are irregular, ladders to bunk beds are free form, terrain is uneven and steep, hammocks are over uneven and hard surfaces, all porches and decks are high elevation over hard surfaces, as well as other considerations not mentioned here. The treehouses are not recommended for very young children requiring supervision or for individuals experiencing mobility issues. All guests will be required to sign a waiver of liability upon arrival in order to stay.

Due to the fragile nature of the environment around the treehouse and my strong desire to keep the location as pristine and natural for you and the next guests, dogs are not welcome (as much as I like dogs). If you have an older calm dog that is not a digger, does not tear around the woods, would not feel compelled to chase the multitude of chipmunks and squirrels around, then by all means, make the case to me that this would be a good fit (in such cases, there is a $50 per stay fee).

In summary, the treehouse compound is rented out in its entirety. Two treehouses, an outside shower, an open air cooking pavilion, a firepit, hammocks, an outhouse toilet and a composting toilet in each treehouse. The compound can accommodate a total of 11 people in the warmer part of the season and the colder ends can accommodate only 5 guests. Privacy is still an important focus of mine, so even if only one guest comes to stay, they will be the only one present at the treehouse compound. This spot will make a permanent impression on you.

Relaxing and Peaceful!
Wonderful property to rest and relax in nature. This was our second year staying at Rik's magical treehouse and we will continue to do so. Rik is a fantastic host and we feel blessed that he shares it with others.

Bliss amongst the trees - perfect for family bonding!
As a long time tent camper, I’m accustomed to “roughing it” in beautiful forested sites. However, I was blown away by what Rick has created in this special place! The two treehouses are quirky and perfect with no detail unconsidered. Both were comfortable and amazingly spacious, and kept us dry in a serious downpour. The nearby kitchen pavilion has everything any type of cook/chef will need to feed the group and the hammocks and large fire pit offer additional sites for individual or group relaxation. The outdoor shower was perfect to cool off after a long day of hiking and the cold water provided a nice morning spark. Our family of four (including two college aged kids) enjoyed two great nights in this most unique setting.

Far exceeded expectations in every way
This is truly a unique opportunity to escape the cookie cutter city life and learn what can be created by a craftsman with genuine pride in his work and respect for his environment. Each bit of this property is meticulously cared for and blends together nature, functionality, and creativity. The pictures here and anything I could write would not do this place justice. Sincerely one of the best weekends I have had with friends in years. Thank you Rik!

About the host

Hosted by Rik Sassa

Host profile image
A stone mason and carpenter for a quarter of a century, waiting for this exact time to put those skills to use and do what I have always wanted, create structures that are natural and artistic, whimsical and functional and try to fit into their setting rather than stand apart from them. I am eager to offer an alternative vision of what life could be like being more connected with nature and more playful about life.

Why they chose this property

The property is perfect in that it offers a wonderful combination of old woods and fields, stepped multilevel terrain and occasional rock outcropping that shows the bones of what is going on under the soil. Mostly hardwoods of various types, lots of old Maples for wonderful color in the Fall.

What makes this property unique

Where else are you going to find a treehouse that is easy to get to, that doesn't have ladders or lots of stairs to access and has all the essentials to make a stay enjoyable, relaxing, and affordable. A real treehouse, one that reflects the nature in and around it, rather than a standard square house or shed raised up into the trees or on stilts...that ain't no treehouse!.
