Old farmhouse on the River Lot with private pool. Set in 7 acres surrounded by vineyards. There is plenty of garden furniture and parasols to let you enjoy outside eating at the fixed barbecue. The pool has its own terrace and there is plenty of space to play all sorts of games from badminton, football to boules!

For anglers, you are in for a real treat as the garden literally runs down to the river Lot with its abundance of carp, catfish and other species and is just enjoyable to sit and while away some time watching the riverlife go by.. You can fish in seclusion whilst only being a stones throw from the rest of the family.

There are walnut trees planted on one side of the property and vineyards to bee seen from most windows. Whether you are sipping wine on the balcony, sun bathing on the terrace or simply messing around in the pool, there is something for every member of the family at Picherre.

About Christian Hoy

As owners of an insurance and transport business in Surrey, it is always a treat to get away from the stresses of work and head off to our home in southern France.

“Our two daughters were 5 & 6 when we bought Picherre” recalls Kim, “and we wanted a family home that would allow us to bring friends and our large families away for a holiday that would be enjoyed by everyone. Picherre was ideal. Within a few hours of leaving our house near Epsom, we can be drinking a glass of local Cahors wine around the pool or on the banks of the River Lot. If we catch the 6.30 a.m. flight from Gatwick, we can be in Picherre before lunch after stopping off for a food shop on the way through."

The privacy of Picherre allows us to completely switch off the moment we arrive at our old stone farmhouse.

Why Christian Hoy chose Duravel

We bought Picherre in 1997 whilst enjoying a holiday in the region. Being on the flat, bordering the river Lot and enjoying the seclusion of its 7 acre plot were the main attractions. We have been told that the property is over 200 years old. Local rumour has it that the bread oven in the barn served the local community during the Second World War. Although Picherre still has its own well, nowadays we are able to enjoy the amenity of mains water!

The village of Duravel with its local boulangerie, boucherie, tabac and weekly market provides a timelessness that seems a far cry from our world in and around London. Our children love walking or cycling to the village in the morning for our baguettes, pain au raisin and pain au chocolat and chatting to the friendly neighbours en route.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Whilst Picherre is private, it is not remote. If you wish for some solitude, you can sit quietly and fish from the end of the garden or simply watch the kingfishers dart by and fish jump at dusk. For those who enjoy exercise and wish to explore the area, there is a 7 mile circuit for cycling or walking right from the front door. Tennis can be played at the courts in Duravel. A day's excursion can take you to the underground river and caves at Padirac or the medieval cliff-hanging village of Rocamadour, or more locally the spectacular chateau Bonaguil. The numerous vineyards close by offer delightful wine-tasting experiences. Children love a day out at the water park at Agen. You can enjoy local produce and food at family restaurants or excellent fine dining for that special occasion.

A wonderful piece of heaven!

This was our second time staying at the property and we were therefore desperately looking forward to our return knowing what to expect! It is beautifully maintained by the wonderful house managers, Kevin and Sandra who are really helpful should you require any advice.

Surrounded by stunning countryside and vineyards, the property is very private yet certainly not remote. How wonderful to cycle directly from the doorstep (on one of the several bicycles kindly provided for the use of guests) and be able to enjoy this lovely part of France, largely on little used roads and cycle tracks. I am definitely not a cyclist but really enjoyed it as the terrain was largely quite flat!! Although this beautiful stone house is set among the countryside, it is very private and close to the stunning river Lot (accessible directly from the property); yet it is also within walking distance of the village which provides a pizzeria, bakery, small convenience store etc. For more choice, there is also a huge supermarket along with many other amenities within a short 10-15 minute drive.

The kitchen is beautifully fitted with everything necessary along with dishwasher, microwave etc and the latest addition of a magnificent outside eating/stone BBQ area is quite simply spectacular! We spent the whole two weeks dreaming as we admired the beauty of the place. The pool is large and clean and enjoys an open vista of the surrounding fields. There is a selection of sun beds and also some much needed shade for when the sun is too strong.

There are three well equipped bathrooms, two lovely double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms, and a sofa bed so plenty of room for family and friends altogether. Wifi is provided for those who need it for work or play and many dvds are available to watch on the flat screen tv should the weather change. The large double height sitting room (with mezzanine level) is stunning and it provided wonderful acoustics for my husband while playing his classical guitar!

We have visited the Gouffre de Padirac caves, Chateau de Bonaguil and the Foie Gras museum to name a few places of interest, but there is so much more yet to see.

We highly recommend this beautiful house and will definitely return very soon. Thank you so much for letting us share this little piece of heaven, we will be back!

Another Great Holiday at Picherre

We returned to Picherre for a second time after a fabulous holiday last year.

There has been plenty written about the property which accommodated our party of 10 with ease. The location is idyllic and we all quickly switch off from our busy lives back home to relax and enjoy the slower pace of life . Whether we were out cycling, visiting local villages, restaurants and vineyards, or relaxing by the pool and taking advantage of the extensive grounds , we all had a fabulous time and hope to be able to return to Picherre again soon

Charming Farmhouse in Scenic Setting

Spent a fantastic week in Picherre with my girlfriend and family. The delightful farmhouse is surrounded by stunning scenery for a truly all encompassing French experience.

It represented a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, offering privacy, great facilities and spectacular views over the surrounding vineyards. A really nice setting in which to drift away and relax.

As a bonus, the weather in late September was very pleasant with sunshine and temperatures in the high 20's for most of the week, allowing us to partake in a plethora of outdoor activities, using the equipment provided by the most generous of owners.

The property was immaculate on arrival and superbly maintained by the amicable and knowledgeable housekeepers, Kevin and Sandra.

I would highly recommend a visit if you're a family/group of friends looking to escape and enjoy the privacy, openness and beauty that Picherre has to offer.

Far from the madding crowd

Lovely old house set in a very peaceful location but only half hour walk to village with bakers, small grocery shop, friendly bar/restaurant, tabac/presse and park.

The house is large with a lovely well equipped modern kitchen, for us this was the hub of the house as we had some pretty poor weather but I am sure that in hot weather the double height lounge would be nice and cool. There is a good sized pool which looked tempting but the weather prevented us using it.

The gardens run down to the River Lot and, although the bank is steep, access for fishing meant that a couple of hours a day were enjoyed.

All in all despite having bad weather we could see the potential for a fabulous holiday in the sunshine. If you like to get away from it all in beautiful surroundings you can't really go wrong here.

A peaceful, comfortable and secluded location

This was our second visit to Picherre and, as usual, Kevin and Sandra were there to meet us and show us the super new outdoor seating and barbecue area. We are very familiar with the house and when we arrived it was spotless. We had excellent communication throughout our stay and we tried the restaurant just down the road recommended by the owner of Picherre (Le Callieu). This restaurant is thoroughly recommended and the owner speaks English which is useful for those who's French is very rusty. We would also recommend the market in Praysac and Villeneuve (Wednesday and Saturday). The markets are great places to pick up local specialities and fresh fruit and vegetables. For any fisherman that fancy a challenge the river can certainly offer that. There are barbel, chub and catfish in numbers but the carp can be a bit trickier to tempt!

Thank you also for photos - they show very impressive catches. I'm glad you liked the new outdoor eating area. We are intending to build something similar by the swimming pool this close season and expand all the area around the pool for more room to put out loungers.I am also glad that you tried Le Callieu which as you say is fantastic. I noticed that their wine is sold at The Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden, London no less. There are many other first rate restaurants to try out should you wish to come and stay again.

Beautiful House, Stunning Surroundings

7 of us had a wonderful week here. The house and gardens were truly spectacular and the newly built pergola and BBQ area really made for fantastic evenings outside.

The pool was clean and the wonderful blue water was a great way to cool down in the heat, only topped by the spectacular river at the end of the garden. Teaming with fish and clear waters relaxing in the river and going for some good open water swims really became a highlight.

As for the sourounding area I couldn't recommend the Lot valley higher. It is a cyclist paradise, as long as you don't mind a few good hills, the rolling countryside l was stunning and with vineyard after vineyard the temptations are never ending.

My only regret was we only had the house for a week! There is so much to do in the area and many more places to visit I could certainly see myself returning in a year of two.

You certainly made the most of the time you were there and you must be very strong swimmers as I could not swim in the Lot river and could not recommend it although it is extremely tempting. You are right about the area being a cyclists' dream and French motorists have a very accommodating attitude toward two wheeled road users. It would be great to see you back down at Picherre in the coming years.

Jet2 also fly to Bergerac from Leeds Bradford Airport. Easyjet fly to Toulouse from Bristol and London Gatwick. Slightly further afield are flights to Bordeuax.

By train

The TGV from Paris stops at Agen, Cahors or Bergerac. Car hire available at all these locations.

Duravel is about 3km away and it is a pleasant walk to get your bread etc. in the mornings. A more comprehensive shop can be made at the supermarkets in Fumel which is about 8km away. The cities of Cahors and Villeneuve are both about 40 mins drive.
