Old farmhouse on the River Lot with private pool. Set in 7 acres surrounded by vineyards. There is plenty of garden furniture and parasols to let you enjoy outside eating at the fixed barbecue. The pool has its own terrace and there is plenty of space to play all sorts of games from badminton, football to boules!

For anglers, you are in for a real treat as the garden literally runs down to the river Lot with its abundance of carp, catfish and other species and is just enjoyable to sit and while away some time watching the riverlife go by.. You can fish in seclusion whilst only being a stones throw from the rest of the family.

There are walnut trees planted on one side of the property and vineyards to bee seen from most windows. Whether you are sipping wine on the balcony, sun bathing on the terrace or simply messing around in the pool, there is something for every member of the family at Picherre.

About Christian Hoy

As owners of an insurance and transport business in Surrey, it is always a treat to get away from the stresses of work and head off to our home in southern France.

“Our two daughters were 5 & 6 when we bought Picherre” recalls Kim, “and we wanted a family home that would allow us to bring friends and our large families away for a holiday that would be enjoyed by everyone. Picherre was ideal. Within a few hours of leaving our house near Epsom, we can be drinking a glass of local Cahors wine around the pool or on the banks of the River Lot. If we catch the 6.30 a.m. flight from Gatwick, we can be in Picherre before lunch after stopping off for a food shop on the way through."

The privacy of Picherre allows us to completely switch off the moment we arrive at our old stone farmhouse.

Why Christian Hoy chose Lot

We bought Picherre in 1997 whilst enjoying a holiday in the region. Being on the flat, bordering the river Lot and enjoying the seclusion of its 7 acre plot were the main attractions. We have been told that the property is over 200 years old. Local rumour has it that the bread oven in the barn served the local community during the Second World War. Although Picherre still has its own well, nowadays we are able to enjoy the amenity of mains water!

The village of Duravel with its local boulangerie, boucherie, tabac and weekly market provides a timelessness that seems a far cry from our world in and around London. Our children love walking or cycling to the village in the morning for our baguettes, pain au raisin and pain au chocolat and chatting to the friendly neighbours en route.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Whilst Picherre is private, it is not remote. If you wish for some solitude, you can sit quietly and fish from the end of the garden or simply watch the kingfishers dart by and fish jump at dusk. For those who enjoy exercise and wish to explore the area, there is a 7 mile circuit for cycling or walking right from the front door. Tennis can be played at the courts in Duravel. A day's excursion can take you to the underground river and caves at Padirac or the medieval cliff-hanging village of Rocamadour, or more locally the spectacular chateau Bonaguil. The numerous vineyards close by offer delightful wine-tasting experiences. Children love a day out at the water park at Agen. You can enjoy local produce and food at family restaurants or excellent fine dining for that special occasion.

Just wonderful.

What a place. Absolutely immaculate on arrival. Given a tour by Kevin and Sandra who were just lovely and so helpful. Weather was just what we ordered (thank you). Pool was perfect for our group of 4 adults and 5 kids (9, 11, 12, 13 and 14). Our inflatable canoes took a few trips out on the river, nothing too rapid, mind. My husband got everyone spinning for barbel and landed himself a 42lb catfish and 12lb carp for good measure. Bikes were fantastic and took us happily to Duravel and beyond. The runners amongst us loved the gravelled track, shady and well maintained for morning 10ks. Gerard at the Chateau educated us on his delicious wine that filled our car boot on leaving. We did manage a trip into Cahors but, to be honest, the cars could have really had a full week's rest due to there being so much to do at the house (including doing nothing at all (bliss)). Thank you for letting us stay in this fabulous place.

We had a lovely week at la Picherre. We were greeted by Sandra and Kevin and immediately felt relaxed and in holiday mode. The house was super and the pool was fantastic. We loved the outside space and the privacy of the gardens. We would definitely recommend this house to our friends.

Expansive and private rural setting

We were delighted with Picherre and had a fantastic time, helped greatly I must admit by the brilliant weather. Even without this, however, the house is comfortable and well-appointed with downstairs living space that is particularly spacious and family-friendly. The rural setting is wonderful - open, yet private, and very scenic. We appreciated the use of the bikes and thoroughly enjoyed the pool and its lovely setting. We also had a great visit to the vineyard on our last day. We hope to return one day!

If I owned Picherre.....

... I would rarely feel the need to leave! June 2016 was our fourth visit to this property. Each time we visit we relax, unwind and the outside world recedes to a distant memory. The restorative powers of tranquility and being surrounded by nature cannot be over-estimated.

The property itself, is well equipped, clean and well maintained. There is a new flat screen TV, DVD player and WiFi for those who need the distractions of technology. The pool is clean, well maintained and always a joy on long hot days. The housekeepers Kevin & Sandra, are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Picherre provides us with everything we need from a holiday. We arrived in need of a break, we departed anticipating the next holiday (already booked) at Picherre!

Beautifully presented in an amazing location

Picherre is a beautifully renovated and presented property retaining a lot of character in an amazing location. It easily accommodated our party of 10 adults in comfort. The setting in a bend of the river Lot which borders the property is so peaceful and relaxing that with the large pool there is little need to leave. There are many interesting villages nearby and many vineyards to visit . We did a lot of cycling and found the rolling countryside perfect I that respect.I would unreservedly recommend Picherre as a perfect holiday destination

The roads are so quiet that you feel quite safe with children tootling along with you. A coffee at the restaurant in village before making your way back is lovely too. Perfect place for the whole family to unwind !!

We arrived at La Picherre and it felt like home as soon as we got there as Kevin and Sandra met us and settled us in. We were straight in the pool which was surrounded by Lavender and idyllic

The views from the house are of fields and you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but five mins in the car you are in Duravel which is a really friendly village with everything you need including a tennis court

We walked or cycled there for bread each am

The gite is well equipped with an excellent kitchen and a separate tv room with enough DVDs to last anyone through any bad weather

Wifi kept the teenagers in touch with the outside world and sitting under the stars every night was bliss

Can't wait to go back as a week wasn't long enough

By air:

Flybe have direct services to Bergerac from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Manchester and Southampton. Ryanair fly direct from London Stansted, East Midlands, Bristol and Liverpool to Bergerac. Jet2 also fly to Bergerac from Leeds Bradford Airport. Easyjet fly to Toulouse from Bristol and London Gatwick. Slightly further afield are flights to Bordeuax.

By train

The TGV from Paris stops at Agen, Cahors or Bergerac. Car hire available at all these locations.

By road

As soon as you make your reservation we will provide detailed driving directions


Duravel is about 3km away and it is a pleasant walk to get your bread etc. in the mornings. A more comprehensive shop can be made at the supermarkets in Fumel which is about 8km away. The cities of Cahors and Villeneuve are both about 40 mins drive.
