Good Holiday destination
We stayed in Villa Katya with our young son for 10 days and overall found the villa very spacious and well kept. The pool and patio area/ grounds were lovely and very well maintained. The owner also provided great assistance in helping us arrange transfers, car hire and was very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area.
There are just two factors that prevent me from awarding 5 stars - firstly the villa was described as a 10 minute "gentle stroll" from town. My boyfriend and myself (although I was a few months pregnant) are pretty fit and fast walkers and we timed the walk as more like 20-25 minutes into town, the walk back in the blazing sun up a steep hill with a buggy and a heavy 1 year old was challenging. My mother came for a week of our time there and would certainly have struggled with the walk, therefore we needed to extend the car rental. Not a huge problem, I just feel like this wasn't communicated as clearly as it could have been. The only other thing we struggled with was the air conditioning - despite being advertised as being "fully air-conditioned" once we'd booked we discovered this was only on overnight. In a very hot climate for a baby, it was hard at times to keep him cool during the day, for the price you are paying you would expect to be able to be able to have the air conditioning on for a couple of hours in the midday heat if required.
Other than the couple of points above we had a lovely holiday!
Thank you for your review Caroline. Having the air conditioning on timers has certainly not worked well and we've responded to your feedback by removing them so the air conditioning is now available at all times. I'm sorry you felt the villa wasn't as close to town as I'd described/you'd hoped. It's disappointing to hear that you felt it was further from town than you'd expected but I'm confident that it's far closer (and an easier walk) than many of the villas that are further from town and higher up the hill in Kalkan. Again, thank you for your feedback and I hope life with the new baby isn't giving you too many sleepless nights!
Kalkan has a small pebble beach where you can hire pedalos or jet skis. There are also two beach clubs nearby which are free and a great place to relax. Water sports include: windsurfing, water-skiing, para sailing, jet-skiing, sea kayaking and pedaloes. Patara Beach (the longest beach in Turkey) is a short 5 mile drive away with wonderful turquoise sea and white sand. Trips to local places of interest can be arranged as well as swimming with dolphins, jeep safaris and scuba diving.
Dalaman Airport is approximately 1.5 hours away. (Airport code DLM). Monarch, Thomson, Jet2, Easyjet and others fly regularly. Transfers to and from the airport and/or car hire can be arranged.
Kalkan Town is a short walk down a gentle hill. The Villa is not high up on the mountain so that you need oxygen to walk into Town! It's a nice walk both to and from Kalkan but there is very little shade so if you prefer, you can hop on a local bus that goes past every 30 minutes and takes 2 minutes into Town. The nearest supermarket/shop is 2 minutes away as is a Cafe that has free wireless internet access.
We try to make your stay as pleasant as possible and therefore we can arrange transfers, car hire, information regarding trips/days out and anything else you may need. If we don't know the answer, we will find somebody that does!
