About The Owner

Kay and I are both retired (Kay will not agree with this statement).

Why The Owner chose England

The Boathouse is a selfbuild, built for our own use. It is built on the site of the old boathouse, which was demolished in June 2006 when rebuilding commenced. It is in, I think a wonderful area as I have loved the place for nearly 50 years. All my guest's that have stayed with us over the past year have expressed similar feelings. When Kay and I prepare the house to receive visitors, it is left for them as we would like it to be, if we were renting a home for our holidays.

What makes this cottage unique

There is secure parking on site for two cars, but you do not need a car if the main places you wish to visit are London and Windsor. The local station gives access to both destinations on regular 15 minute intervals. I will be only too pleased to pick you up or run you to the station with your luggage. On fine days and evenings there are no restaurants I know with a finer outlook than when you dine alfresco, or enjoy a G&T as the sun goes down at The Boathouse.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Three days of relaxation and comfort in lovely surroundings - easy access to Windsor and Runnymeade which we both enjoyed. Thank you.

M and D Smith.

We have had a peaceful stay and have really enjoyed taking our Canadian canoe out on the river. We paddled down to Runnymeade and up to Windsor & mostly had the river to ourselves.

This is a beautiful spot - Thank you.

S and G. Simkin.

Convenient to all places of interest in the area. Comfortable and tasteful accommodation in a beautiful location - The Boathouse is great.

R and R Francis.

A wonderful property at an outstanding location. We've just chilled out for four days - only moved the car once and enjoyed the sunshine and wildlife.

Amazing river views but some noise from planes

  • 3 of 5

We were met by the very friendly owners. The house was clean and the views from the terrace and decking area were wonderful. There is plenty of space and lots of choice for seating arrangements outside. The lounge area was comfortable and in the evenings we used the log burning stove. We used our own logs but if you pay then the owner will provide them. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery, glasses etc but the fridge was ready for replacement in our view. The main bedroom was a good size and had a small balcony overlooking the river. The curtains in this room are thin so the sun can wake you early. The owners have been told of this previously in the guest book.

The house is perfectly situated for travelling. The local train station is a short, level walk and trains run regularly to both Windsor in one direction and London in the other.

However you must be prepared for landing aircraft. They can land as often as every 90 seconds, although the owner has told me there are respite periods during the day. They start at about 6am and land throughout the day till around 11pm ( except for the respite periods). They are very low and some are so noisy it becomes impossible to have a conversation if you are outside. This is a shame because it prevents you getting the full benefits of the exceptional views.

I also should point out that the second bedroom is difficult to configure for a couple. There are twin beds and the room design makes it difficult to push them together without restricting access to the wardrobe. The wardrobe is small, there is no chest of drawers or mirror.

Before our trip we were told by the owner that there was a gas BBQ but we needed to provide our own gas, which is fair enough. Unfortunately there was a leak on his gas hose and also his regulator leaked when we used it. This was a serious safety issue. There is a separate charcoal BBQ provided.

Other guests have praised the owner's communications. I cannot. I had unanswered emails and unanswered text messages. The owner told me he had problems with his computer and also he had just moved house. We were two older couples, and we wouldn't return. The main reason being the noise from the aircraft.

Super place for a London vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the Boathouse four times. It is now our home away from home in the London area. The house is delightful with a superb garden on the river. It is convenient to the train to London and to shops and comes with a key to a wonderful park where you can walk around the lake. It is convenient to Heathrow and there is some air traffic but the noise has never disturbed us or our guests. I can't imagine a more perfect place to spend a holiday.

Fab House

Don't hesitate to book. A lovely house in a great location. The owners reply quickly to emails and were there to meet us when we arrived. We visited Legoland, Windsor and Eton. The location train station is a 5 minute walk away and you are two stops from Windsor. The children loved the garden and feeding the ducks and the swans. I enjoyed using the sun loungers. Within a very short drive there is a small tescos and a great pub with lovely food. We walked one evening to the local watersports jet ski center which was good. If we are ever in the area again we would definitely stay.

Owner's Response: Our guest advised that we were docked a star for not supplying mini soap (liquid soap was supplied), shampoo, wine, biscuits or bread, washing powder, dishwasher tabs(these are supplied) & cling film. We have taken these comments onboard & will comply where appropriate.

Wonderful Property

  • 5 of 5

We cannot recommend this property enough as we've just returned home after a fantastic weeks holiday. The Boathouse is a lovely property, very nicely furnished and comfortable. The deck is large and well equipped with patio furniture which we took full advantage of. The property overlooks the water which in itself is very relaxing and our young children (aged 5 and 7) had great fun in the large garden, when they weren't waving at the boats on the water or feeding the many ducks, geese and swans that visited us daily. Whilst care does need to be taken close to water, it was accessible only by steps and our children were told simply not to go down the steps without a parent, it was not a problem!

The Boathouse is very well located if you plan to venture out and about as we did. We spent time in London, Windsor and Legoland, without once having to take the car. From the railway station in Sunnymeads (a 5 minute walk from the Boathouse), it's 40 minutes into London Waterloo and only 5 minutes into Windsor. If you plan to visit Legoland there is a bus 2 minutes walk from Windsor station on the Main Street.

What made our stay all the more enjoyable was the friendly and helpful attitude of owners Jeff and Kay. Thank you for sharing such a great property.

A fabulous Spot

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay at the boathouse was just as enjoyable as the first. This time we were lucky with the weather which meant a few enjoyable hours with a glass of wine on the patio. The house is easy to find and a great base for all types of holidays. With our older boys we spent two days in London which, with the train station a short walk away, was an easy journey to make. Returning to the boathouse after a tiring day was so much more relaxing than being in hotel family room. With two showers, three t.vs and wifi -we were all happy! There are lots of options for food nearby: a great pub in the village, a Chinese restaurant and takeaway, fish and chips and, of course, Windsor close by. On our way home we visited Bicester Village which was only an hour's drive away and a shopping delight. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay at the boathouse to anyone.
