Set in a quiet rural location in a sleepy country lane, Ardmor barn is about a 2 kilometers from the village of Ballinspittle and 4 kilometers from 'Blue Flag' sandy beaches. The village has a grocery store, an excellent butchers shop, an award winning 'boutique' bakery and cafe, a post office, hairdressers, and bar. The picturesque fishing town of Kinsale, famous for its restaurants and festivals (including the famous fringe Blues/Jazz festival in October), is only ten minutes drive away. The detached barn shares a landscaped courtyard with the adjacent traditional farmhouse. There is access to a private garden with views over the unspoilt countryside, and plenty of off-road parking. The location is a perfect base for touring along the spectacular West Cork coastline, or enjoying the local sandy beaches (there is a surfing school on Garretstown beach). There are some excellent local golf courses, fishing, sailing, walking, dining out or just relaxing and enjoying friendly craic in the local bars.
Steve and I bought a derelict old farmhouse with two barns on a half acre plot in 2003. Much of our time since then has been restoring the buildings and creating a garden as much in keeping with the feel of the original property as possible.
We converted one of the barns into a two bedroom detached property which lends itself perfectly for holiday letting. We have added as much comfort as possible (we think this is important for guests) and we have loved the range of people we have met over the years and look forward to meeting more in the future!
Carol Galvin purchased this barn in 2003
My family are originally from the local area and it was somewhere I visited often as a child. When we saw the property we just fell in love with it, a bit of an impulse purchase but one we have never regretted. We love the house, the people and the landscape; a magical area.
The property is perfectly situation to take advantage of the hustle and bustle of Kinsale which has a great deal to offer in terms of good food and entertainment. There are fabulous sandy beaches at Garretstown, excellent facilities in Ballinspittle, and you are on the doorstep of other West Cork delights, just follow the coast road! If it peace and quiet you want, then just stay put and chill.
We were touring Ireland on motorbikes and fancied somewhere to base ourselves for the week, Theres a lovely garage to park the bikes in and as you can see from the photos it really is a beautiful place to stay. The village has everything, a nice pub a few shops and a cafe and Kinsale isnt far away either. We would definitely recommend it for motorbikes the cottage has everything you could possible want and more....we will be back :)
We are just back from a wonderful 3 night stay in this property. Steve and Carol were wonderful hosts and the property was just perfect for all of our needs. It was full of character. Their little dog Maggie was a real hit with our kids too. When we return to Kinsale we will definitely stay here. We would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit Kinsale.
My Mum and I had the most amazing 4 night getaway. It was the perfect retreat for rest and relaxation. Such a beautiful place, home from home is an understatement, set in peaceful picturesque surroundings. Carol and Steve were amazing hosts, we even got to sample some freshly laid eggs from their chickens, they were awesome. We would highly recommend this place and we can't wait to return one day.
We had a lovely stay in this beautifully decorated, relaxing barn. It was fitted with high quality equipment/furnishings and was very clean. Carol and Steve made us welcome and provided good customer service. Ballinspittle has a high quality deli/bakery which is worth checking out.
Ardmor Barn offers everything you need for a holiday/break in Ireland. The property itself, situated in a very peaceful location, is well equipped, very comfortable and tastefully decorated/furnished to a high degree. The friendly owners are on hand if required without being intrusive. Location wise it is a great base for touring south west Cork whilst being close to the vibrant town of Kinsale, the City of Cork and Cork Airport. All in all , lovely accommodation in a beautiful part of Ireland. We would have no hesitation in returning.
