Relaxing holiday in idyllic surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We have spent a week in this lovely villa in the heart of Kefalonia last Easter. Although the weather was fairly changeable at the end of March, this place made it up by its warming and welcoming atmosphere and stunning surroundings. We were warmly welcomed by the housekeeper Nikki, who lives in the same village, and was available for us at any time if we needed anything. The well-stocked kitchen and outside barbeque provided us with everything necessary to prepare fantastic meals, and we could buy our supplies in local shops in the nearby village.

The villa is ideally located among rolling hills and green fields, only a few minutes’ drive to the nearest village and about 20 minutes to the island capital Argostoli. At a clear night we could see layers of stars thanks to the lack of light pollution, in the day the view from the balcony stretched all the way to the sea. Although sandy beaches are very close, we preferred the dramatic rocky coastline ideal for long walks.

Although a car is a necessity, there is a little village shop in walking distance, where we could buy basic groceries from the very friendly locals. About a 10 minutes’ drive, we visited a restaurant recommended by the owner of the villa, and enjoyed delicious local specialities, such as lamb kleftiko and chicken souvlaki.

We were very happy to stay in this villa, and are returning again this year. It is suitable for a family of four, but we think it is ideal for one or two couples who desire a calm and relaxing holiday in Greece.

Cleanse the soul!

  • 5 of 5

The barn-house is situated in a perfect location. While it is sufficiently isolated to feel private and peaceful, it is within a very short drive of some beautiful beaches and some lovely traditional taverna's. The barn-house was very well equipped and had the added benefit of Niki to look after the place during our stay. She made use feel so welcome and insisted on baking cakes for us!

We spent a lot of time travelling around the island but always looked forward to coming back to the barn-house at the end of the day. The beaches at Avithos, Spartia, Lourdas and Trapezaki were all lovely and we enjoyed the small restaurant in Spartia and the restaurants at Avithos and Trapezaki. We intended to stay in most evenings and have barbecues at the barn-house which we did a couple of times but discovered that eating out was so cheap that we spent most of our evenings searching out and enjoying the local cuisine.

Will definitely return and would recommend this property due to its location and its comfort.

Want to go back again

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from two weeks at this amazing villa

Ok the road to the villa is a little bumpy but with care it is no issue and easily drivable - it should cause no-one a concern

The Villa itself is well stocked with everything you need to have a great stay

The patio and the pool are perfect with absolutely stunning views, the peace, the privacy and tranquility make for perfect lazy days without introduction or distraction

The beds are so comfortable and with air conditioning made sleeping in the villa a totally treat - to the extant it was easy to sleep into the middle of the day (alarm clocks were required to make sure we got up….)

Niki was brilliant, with frequent visits, at a planned time

We found local Tavern's both Cavo Laikias in Spartia Village and down the road in Waterways by the beach the food was great although Waterways had the best view by far

The island is fabulous with lots to see and do - take a trip to Melissani Lake (it is spectacular) followed by lunch on Sami Harbor side makes for an amazing day (with time still to get back to the pool for a dip)

We will be back and are already discussing our dates for next year

One of our best holidays ever!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our first holiday in the Barnhouse - and what a wonderful holiday it was. The property was just as described in a lovely quiet and secluded spot with fabulous views out to sea and nearby Zakynthos. Also handy for the airport and the capital, Argostoli - where we saw loggerhead turtles swimming in the harbour! We had such a warm welcome from Nikki and her family, as other visitors have mentioned - the property was spotlessly clean on arrival and she had kindly stocked up on some basic provisions for us, as well as popping back a few times during our stay with some special treats for the kids. We were so grateful for all her help and recommendations. The beds were really comfy, the air conditioning worked well and we loved the outdoor shower - it was so warm and ideal for the kids, especially when we all returned covered in sand from the nearby beaches. The pool was small, but we enjoyed cooling off in it and sitting on the ledge admiring the views out to sea - with a drink in hand (the plastic glasses provided meant there were no broken glass worries!) There are lots of wonderful beaches within a short drive - with clear blue water and soft sand (Avithos was our favourite), so we had plenty of opportunity for longer swims and snorkelling in the sea. The Barnhouse had everything we needed for our stay and we had lots of delicious souvlaki cooked on the outside BBQ (there's a really good butchers on the main road into Argostoli). The island is well worth a visit- plenty to do and see, and lots of opportunity to relax in the Barnhouse - we have already booked again for next year! Thank you to the owners for being so helpful and accommodating too.

Tranquil villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing holiday staying at the beautiful Barnhouse - the property is in the perfect location with stunning views and so peaceful. It is well equipped, with everything you could need - such a treat to have air conditioning in the bedrooms, a lovely pool/bbq area and perfect outdoor shower . Niki was wonderful, she couldn't do enough to help - making delicious cakes and pancakes for our girls.

We loved Kefalonia and had an amazing time swimming with turtles at Avithos beach, hired a yellow boat at Agios Efimia and dropped anchor to snorkel in all the secluded bays. But the best bit, was coming back to the peaceful Barnhouse at the end of each day.

We shall definitely be returning!

Thanks also for the restaurant recommendations - we loved 'The Olive Grove' and are already missing all the delicious food, especially 'cheese pie from the village' and the baklavas!!
