About the property

We would love to welcome you on board of our houseboat and share with you our experience of a unique way of living in this beautiful city.

Waking up in the morning with the reflection of the sunlight on the surface of the water of the river Amstel, hearing the sound of the ducks and birds and watching the rowers passing by whilst drinking your morning coffee (or tea) or enjoying the sunset with a nice glass of wine from the private deck of this little quirky houseboat apartment.

Your own private little quirky houseboat apartment on the Amstel. Just outside the crazy bubble of the city center in the hip and happening quarter De Pijp. How lovely....

Your houseboat has a small deck and it's own entrance, free WIFI/WLAN, two cozy little authentic sleep cabins with a double bed each, a bathroom, a separate toilet, a living room with a dining area and a small and simple pantry.

Super cute isn't it?!?!?

On top of this it is provided with free bed linen and as many towels as you need.

Note that it is comfortable for maximum 4 guests and is self catered and as it is an original ship it is less suitable for elderly or disabled people and it has its peculiarities ;))

If you want to party, smoke or do drugs, this is not the accommodation you are looking for. As it is located in a family friendly part of the De Pijp quarter: no loud activities, no smoking and no drugs in and around the houseboat.

Would you love to know more about our houseboat apartment, please feel free to contact us any time.

Not close to central Amsterdam

  • 3 of 5

Lots of walking, was expecting it to be closer to the central part of Amsterdam. Due to the weather being quite cold the walk was long and tedious. The door to get in to the boat did not having a working mechanism to open it. It was heavy and dropped it on to my head a couple times. The wi-fi was spotty and the tv didn’t work however we were out a lot of the time so that didn’t matter too much. That all said it was a good experience however next time I will stay closer to central Amsterdam.

Una gran estancia en Amsterdam

  • 5 of 5

Cute houseboat in a sweet neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

Coleta gave us a kind welcome and overview of the nicest places close by for food and interesting experiences. The boat is cozy and clean with everything we needed to make ourselves at home. Close access to the tram line made it easy to get in and out to the center and other must-see city spots. Nice morning running along the Amstel, and it's nice to watch rowers and boats in the evening as well. A special way to experience Amsterdam!

Loved Amsterdam, disappointed with Avontuur

  • 2 of 5

Coleta is a very welcoming host, and her knowledge of languages is very comforting. We all absolutely loved Amsterdam, the cafes and travelling by tram (we had 4 day passes - well worth the 22 Euros).

However, we stayed on Avontuur, and we had a few issues.

Firstly, we were confused on arrival, as there are no boat names on display, so we just had to go by the photos on the website.

Also, we were expecting to have the whole boat to ourselves, but be aware that due to Amsterdam law, only half the boat is allowed to be rented to holiday makers, so we only had the front end. If you've ever stayed on a static canal boat before, you will be aware that waste water needs to be pumped ashore, and this normally would not be an issue, but as the other half of the boat was occupied by someone else, if they decide to have a shower at midnight, or at 3.30 am(!) (which happened whilst we were there) the pump and the boiler fire up and wakes everyone up (it was situated just behind the head of the bed in our room and it is very loud in the middle of the night). Consequently we ended up rather grumpy and short of sleep after 3 nights of this.

Other reviews mention a well stocked fridge, but ours was empty, and the bin was still full from the previous guests. Washing up was also tricky, as the plugs in the kitchen sinks were both broken and there was no washing up bowl, so we had to run the water continuously.

So overall, we enjoyed exploring Amsterdam from a great location, but we were disappointed in the accommodation itself.

Owner's Response: We are sorry the hear that the houseboat apartment was not what you expected. That was surely not our intention. --- Each houseboat has indeed a name, which is not commonly know by taxi drivers nore by google maps. Therefore we use the street name and house number in all communication and on your personal booking website, we have shared with you. The street name and house numbers are signed by the local government. We will use your tip to make the name signs more visible. --- Living on a houseboat is very romantic and the houseboat apartment of 50 m2 is comfortable for 4 guests max. Like we said at your welcome, we would love to hear what you miss during your stay in your apartment. Unfortunately we have not received any requests during your stay; we would have loved to look after it. Washing bowls are available, but running the water is an excellent choice too. --- The pumps are needed to pump up the water out of the boat. We are very sorry to hear that you sleep light and that your neighbour - a family member - woke you up when he came home from his holiday on your last morning of your stay. Though this could only have happend on the last morning of your stay - this still is unexcusable. --- We strive to do the one thing ..... give our guest the amazing and absolute great experience on a houseboat. Feel free to reach out to us directly if you have any comments. Thank you for your feedback. There is always room for improvement. --Coleta

Really nice and original place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We were really happy to experiment life in a houseboat! It was a great way to discover Amsterdam. The boat was really clean and comfortable and it was well located to discover the city. There are groceries just nearby. Coleta, the owner speaks perfectly French, she is really kind and gave us a lot of good advises. We warmly recomand this place for your stay in Amsterdam!

The houseboat is located in a family friendly area on one of the best spots on the river Amstel in the Quartier Latin of Amsterdam, called De Pijp and is just a 10 to 20 minutes walk to most tourist attractions like the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Experience, Albert Cuyp Market, the Hermitage, RAI congress centre, the old centre of Amsterdam, one of the nicest shopping area’s of Amsterdam called “Utrechtsestraat” and lots of good restaurants on the Van Woustraat.
