It is set in a spectacular and unspoiled natural environment of one of the hidden treasures of Montenegro – the National Park of Durmitor. The UNESCO protected setting of the National Park of Durmitor, where the house is located, is a true delight for all the connoiseurs of nature, winter and summer sports and traditions typical of Montenegro and its long history of living with and adapting to nature. This house within walking distance from the Black Lake (Crno Jezero) - a premium tourist attraction of Durmitor mountain range.

The tourist season stretches all year round with plenty of activities on offer, including full range of winter sports, hiking, rafting, mountain biking, fishing, etc. This location is nature's real treasure.

Both the location and the house itself are stunning. Our house is built with all natural materials and it features central heating system with a pellet stove. The setting is truly the best that this part of Montenegro can offer, and it resembles the Himalayan mountains. Our house is located in the National Park of the Black Lake, featuring beautiful forest and the glacial lake with beaches and hiking paths.

Must-see places:

The Black Lake, the biggest and the best known of some eighteen glacier lakes in Durmitor mountain range, is only 10 min walk from our house. The famous Ice Cave is within 3 hours walking distance. The Barno Lake is again only 10min walking distance through forest. Bobotov Kuk at 2,522m above sea level is the highest peak of Durmitor which can be reached in 6 hours.

Further attractions:

The town of Zabljak is situated in the north-west of Montenegro, in the heart of the Durmitor Mountain region. Zabljak lies 1450 meters above the sea level, making it the highest urban conurbation in the Balkans. Zabljak is also surrounded by 23 mountain peaks and 18 mountain lakes. Another natural attraction of the area is the river Tara with the deepest canyon in Europe.

Zabjak is a place for all seasons. In the summer the area is extremely popular for walkers with 22 marked tracks ranging from a 1-2 hour stroll round Black Lake to a 5-6 hour hike to the highest summit, Bobotov Kuk (2,525m). This world hertitage site is awash with flowers in the spring and contains many features of outstanding natural beauty such as the Ledina Pecina ice cave and the vast Tara Canyon, the largest in Europe, second only to the Grand Canyon. Only 50km away is the Biogradska National Park - this mystical place is one of the 3 remaining primeval virgin forests left in Europe.

Alpine trails are suitable for tracking and alpine sports both winter and summer time. Mountaineering of all varieties, ranging from basic hikes to extreme mountain climbing are special attraction of Durmitor mountains, with all the main paths well marked and expertly described. Paragliding can be enjoyed from the highest peak of Savin Kuk (1,953), as well as from Bosaca and Golubinje. There are perfect conditions for mountain biking, as there are countless cross country and free ride trails, forest trails and a beginner paths for circling around the Black Lake. Rafting and kayaking can be experienced on Tara River (tourist tour is about 60km long), with a range of rafts, kayaks or inflatable boats. Kayaks and boats can also be used on the Black Lake for recreation purposes. Sport fishing is permitted in some parts of Tara River. A photo safari is also recommended in order to capture the natural beauty and unforgettable landscape.

Coast/Beaches: The closest beaches in Montenegro, in Petrovac, Budva, Bar, Ulcinj, Kotor, Riasan, Perast, Tivat, Herceg Novi are approximately 2.5 hours away. Dubrovnik Airport and nearby towns of Cavtat, Kupari and Dubrovnik with its beautiful beaches are some 4.5 hours away.

Travel: Zabljak is accessible from both Dubrovnik and Podgorica airports. Our house manager is available to collect guests from Dubrovnik or Podgorica Airport. Cost of one-way journey in a private car is 120 EUR. Otherwise car hire from the airport is available.

Notes on accommodation: Both ‘Yela’ and ‘Enna’ are suitable for children having access to private patio / garden. Both apartments have central heating. There is also a pelled burning stove in the living room of the apartment ‘Enna’. Both apartments are family friendly, and equally suitable for a romantic getaway, a retreat for friends and a great base for outdoors sports activities. All amenities and facilities are provided.
