About this property

Country House Overlooking a Lough

The property is a single storey country house in 9 acres of garden and woodland. It stands at the foot of Mount Gable looking south over the beautiful Lough Corrib, with its own foreshore. A mountain stream flows at either side of the gardens. The house has recently been renovated, and has two large bedrooms with King size beds, each with an ensuite shower room, one double bedroom, one twin rooms and a ‘bunk’ room each with a refitted bathroom nearby. The house has a new and substantial kitchen with a large dining area and a table to seat up to 12 people. There is also a large sun room/conservatory, a play room (which also has fold out beds) and a sitting room. It is a large comfortable holiday house with real character and some history and is ideal for a large family or even two families to enjoy at any time of the year. It is ideally situated for fishing, and is an excellent base for those who wish to enjoy the beautiful lakes mountains and coastline of the West of Ireland. At the same time the grounds are fantastic for adventurous children who want to explore, build dens and make campfires.

Beautiful property
Very comfortable family home with plenty of room for 11 of us. Located not far from several villages. Plenty to visit nearby as well as further afield. Beautiful countryside, walks with stunning views over the Lough.

The pictures of Carrick House do not do it justice! It is so beautiful. The house is long and the rooms are spread out. This works nicely when you have early sleepers and late sleepers. We weren’t disturbed by others at all. If you’re looking for modern features, this is not your house. It is a quaint country home in a beautiful setting! Carrick House did not disappoint and we would love to return here. Thank you to Brid and the Dunne family for a wonderful stay!❤️

Phenomenal property
This place was absolutely amazing. The pictures and description don’t do it justice. Stayed with my adult children, and would absolutely have another reunion here. It’s a bit far out, but the peace and quiet are well worth the drive to other attractions

About the host

The house has been with the same family since the 1930s. The 5 Brothers who share the ownership have spent many family holidays at the house and decided to keep the house on because of its unique character and location. Now they and their families and friends often take holidays at the house and they have many friends locally. The house has recently been refurbished and modernised but retains its warmth and character so whether it is family football on the front lawn, catching trout in the small stream, building dens and campfires in the woodland at the back, exploring the lake and islands or touring the beauty of Connemara and the beaches, this is a wonderful place to stay.

Why they chose this property

This is a family house and has been with the same family since the 1930's. It was bought originally as a fishing lodge. There is also some history to the houses that were previously on the same site. While the area is fairly remote and beautiful, it is less than an hour to the dynamic city of Galway and about an hour from Knock airport. So the beauty and remoteness of the area are now within easy reach.

What makes this property unique

The property is set in a wonderful location looking over Lough Corrib, with its own lake foreshore and surrounded by acres of woodland and garden and with mountain streams running through the garden and down to the lake. There is a mountain at the back and an old road with fabulous walks and views looking to the mountains in the West. It is however conveniently located with villages about 2 miles away in either direction. Cornamona has a grocery shop and a pub. Clonbur has a mini supermarket (with an ATM), and several pubs and restaurants. The city of Galway offers a great deal and is less than an hour away. Going West from the house you are immediately into the wild and beautiful lakes and mountains scenery, and fabulous beaches of Connemara and the West of Ireland.
