The front door opens onto a large open plan living room and kitchen, with comfortable sofa, chairs, dining table, TV/DVD. The centre piece of this room is the wood burning stove (wood provided) which can be used to take off the morning or evening chill in the spring or autumn. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, including crockery, etc, for young children. Off the living area lie the bathroom (shower, WC, basin) and the 3rd bedroom - this contains a large sofa bed, so can be used as either a second living room or as a bedroom.
Upstairs are 2 further bedrooms. The second is accessed through the first bedroom, which is standard for wine cottages in this area. The main bedroom contains a double bed, a cot and a single bed, whilst the second room contains twin beds. A stair gate and night lights are provided for those with young children.
In the large basement, there is a games room, containing a full size table tennis table.
We are a family of 5, with 3 young children, living in Bristol in the south west of England. We visit Slovenia for 2 weeks every summer, and whenever we get another opportunity.
Jonathan Rees purchased this cottage in 2006
We first went to Slovenia for a holiday in September 2006, staying just outside Moravske Toplice - we went for a week, and came back having bought Vino Cottage!!
From the first visit, we loved this quiet corner of Slovenia - incredibly peaceful, great weather, beautiful countryside, so many family friendly restaurants and of course the thermal spas - our children love the warm water, the water slides and the lack of queues!
Eating out is so easy and so reasonable compared to other parts of Europe. Jani's Vinotoc, within 5 minutes walk, is quite unique - all home made produce, including wine made using the grapes from our vineyard.
Prekmurje is still a relatively undiscovered corner of Slovenia, surrounded on 3 sides by Austria to the north, Hungary to the east and Croatia to the south. The beautiful town of Ptuj is under an hours drive away, and can be reached via the hilltop wine village of Jeruzalem. Day trips into Austria, Hungary and Croatia are a short drive from the cottage. The ski slopes of Maribor are under an hour by car, and in the summer cable car rides into the mountain offer excellent walking and cycling opportunities. Lake Bled and Bohinje are approximately 2 1/2 hours drive, making a day trip possible.
The area is famous for its thermal spas, and the largest of these, Terme 3000 is only 4 km from the cottage; there are 23 different indoor and outdoor pools - an excellent day out for children and adults alike. There is also an 18 hole golf course at the spa. There are 4 other spas within an easy 20-30 minute drive.
