The property is set in some of the most outstanding scenery in Austria. The house is set in its own grounds with ample room for parking. There is a cycle path outside the property which is the longest in Europe. The only traffic passing the house are cyclist and walkers, the house is accessible via the cycle path but only for people staying at the house. There are 140km of excellent ski slopes available in the Lungau. The picturesque town of Tamsweg is 6km from the cottage, and has Spa facilities and a wide choice of excellent restaurants around a pretty square. In the summer lots of festivities and music concerts to enjoy whilst dining in the square!!

Cosy and warm place in a convenient setting.
Nice to come back again. Great snow and comfortable place to stay. Thanks
We have just spent a very relaxing 10 days at Riverside Cottage. The property's location was ideal for us - a little bit off the beaten track but within easy walking/driving distance of local amenities. The cottage is very cosy and has a traditional Austrian feel with additional English touches (a kettle was most welcome, as was the freezer and automatic washing machine.) The decking outside was ideal for sunbathing on the sunloungers provided. The parasol was also much welcomed by those of us who like to sit outside but instantly turn bright pink in the sun!
It was lovely to just sit and watch the cyclists and steam trains go by, and we did not find this intrusive at all (in June the steam train only runs twice a day on a Tuesday and Thursday).
We will definitely return soon
Travelling by motorbike around Germany, Hungary and Austria, we rented the beautiful riverside cottage for a week. Our week consisted of visiting the sights of the area including taking in the Motogp at the Red Bull Ring, walking to Tamsweg and getting the train back to Ramingstein, visiting Murau for a day on the train and just relaxing!! Excellently clean and equipped, we couldn't have asked for more. An enjoyable week, and we will return one day. Thank you very much David for enabling us to rent your cottage.
Lovely cottage in a perfect location
We had a wonderful stay at Riverside Cottage. It was our first trip to Austria and we couldn't have chosen better accommodation or location. The cottage was cosy, clean and welcoming after two very long days of driving, with all the facilities needed. Especially happy with the brand new freezer - lots of ice for the evening drinks and nice to be able to shop for a few days in one go. Our favourite bit was the cycle path - we spent many hours setting off from the cottage to cycle, stopping for lunch, then cycling back. As my husband had a fractured foot at the time and couldn't walk too far this was even more important to us. Loved sitting in the outside (but inside) area both for breakfast and in the evening. Enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the river running past and waving to the people in their canoes as they whizzed by. ~The steam trains were fun to see and the daily trains were not intrusive at all. Would recommend Riverside Cottage to anyone wanting a pretty retreat and hope to be able to return in the future.
So pleased you enjoyed your holiday at Riverside Retreat, we will be only too pleased to welcome you back in the future.
lovely and peaceful
Have just returned from a very pleasant two weeks at Riverside Cottage and have spent a very comfortable time. The property was ideal for us with views over the river Mur and the narrow gauge railway. The property was comfortable and well maintained and the local manager called by to check that was all was well ( which it was). It might be helpful in the description to make it clear that access to the 2nd bedroom is through the first one- not a problem for us but might be relevant to some people. There is a fridge but no freezer- again not a problem so long as you are aware of it.
Very good value for the holiday and handily placed for local sightseeing. We filled everyday without problems and there was lots of information on things to do in the property. Would recommend
Thank you for your feedback ,we are always pleased to hear our guests experience of riverside retreat , & will take on board any comments where improvement can be made (eg freezer)it's great that you found all the information provided useful
a lovely holiday
This chalet was in a beautiful picturesque location. It was a clean, cosy and well equipped house. A great location and a lovely place to stay.
Special interest holidays:
Ideal location for walkers and cyclists as the house is adjacent to the longest cycle path in Europe. the path follows the beautiful River Mur valley, in the unspoilt green heart of Austria. For those people interested in steam trains the Murtlebahn narrow gauge railway passes the house and during the summer months the steam train runs from Tamsweg to Murau running through the delightful Mur Valley on a 2 hour journey taking in some magnificent scenery.
There are several outside pools within 20 min drive, set within the beautiful Alpine scenery.
1 hour 15 mins sw of Salzburg, good motorway connection.
1 hour 30 mins from Klagenfurt.
3 hours drive from Venice. Vienna, Budapest and Munich all with good road links.
15 minute walk to the charming hamlet of Ramingstein, where there are food shops and restaurants. 10 min drive to the pretty town of Tamsweg, where there is a wide selection of restaurants and supermarkets.
There is an extensive booklet at the Cottage which gives information on where to eat, visit etc.
