Countryhouse and De-luxe Yurt, Nr. Carcassonne, Languedoc Roussillon, France - An Oasis Of Calm And Tranquility Near Many Local Sites Just South West Of Carcassonne

SPECIAL OFFERS: 25% OFF OUR BEST PRICE IN JUNE NOW ONLY €1125 FOR GROUPS OF 8 OR LESS & 15% OFF JULY 2 - JULY 16 (20% OFF IF BOOKING BOTH WEEKS). Domaine les Tisseyres is a charming country residence set in an idyllic landscape 25 minutes to Carcassonne and 1 hr to Toulouse. The house is very child-friendly and suitably equipped for all ages and is set within 3 acres including an optional twin yurt camp with its own hot water shower, loo and kitchen (for groups of over 17 who need more space than the 7 bedroom house affords, it makes a great, fun, safe and affordable place for kids to camp out whilst you enjoy the house or as a glamping experience for one of the families in your group; alternatively any group size can enjoy it as another venue for bbqs, campfires, celebrations or quiet time away from the house). We have set up very flexible pricing to be able to accommodate groups of between 5 and 24. The Domaine is bookable in three potential set-ups: 6 bedrooms for smaller groups (€1500 per week for 8 people or less out of peak season), 7 bedrooms (standard prices see tab 1) and 7 bedrooms plus the two yurts (tab 2, just an extra €600 a week gets you the extra 8 places in the yurt camp on top of the 7 bedrooms in the house). The house is never rented out to more than one group at a time.

Being on-site, we offer a range of extras such as food welcome / holiday starter packs, babysitting, hand picked wine selections, catering for all occasions (first evening welcome dinner, lunches and dinners throughout the week), massage and acupuncture (Emily is a qualified acupuncturist). Perhaps most importantly, our presence means extreme flexibility in terms of setting up each room and the constellation of beds required each week which differs greatly from group to group (singles, doubles, cots, child beds). And if you get here and change your mind as to who sleeps where, we can re-arrange and re-make beds on your first evening.

Visit Cathar castles, medieval Carcassonne, beautiful Limoux and Mirepoix and the Med coast and Pyrenees only 45mins away. Enjoy our lovely climate by the pool, bbq on the terrace and explore the private woodland and the hills right on our doorstep. For the active, we can recommend horse-riding, hiking, canoeing or cave visits and suggest good places for wine tasting and sampling the local cuisine. This is not so much a gite as a fully fledged home, lovingly restored and furnished with local antiques and curiosities, complemented by an outdoor space able to keep kids and adults alike happy throughout your stay. We were fully booked for UK summer holidays '11, '12, '13, '14 and '15. Don't take our word for it: please browse through our 5 star average reviews from previous paying guests spanning 5 years of happy renters.

Whilst here at Domaine les Tisseyres, you are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to local activities. A week flies by, so much so that one of our three week bookings wished they had arranged to stay for longer. On the days that you are not content to simply kick back by the pool and lounge in the Moroccan space with a good book whilst the kids dive-bomb their way through the afternoon, you can choose from historic castles and cliff-top ruins at Peyrepertuse and Montsegur, you can brave the crowds up at the UNESCO heritage site and watch the live jousting at Carcassonne Castle or if it is just a little outing you are after, take the little ones to see yaks, llamas, pot-bellied pigs and goats at the local petting farm.

Adults will appreciate the chance to choose their evening wines from local producers, giving you better value and quality than the usual supermarket lottery. There are half a dozen interesting producers within a 10 mile radius or so and Limoux boasts a myriad of tasting opportunities to sample the forerunner of Champagne, Blanquette / Cremant de Limoux.

We have two favourite spots for lake swimming, both just half an hour away. The emerald green of the lake at Chalabre makes for a stunning setting whereas Lac St Ferreol at Revel is more blessed with shady areas, making it more suitable for pic-nics and groups with younger kids. For families with kids older than 8 we would recommend the activity-laden lake just east of Carcassonne (also 30 mins by car).

Bikes can be hired from various spots along the Canal du Midi nearby. The closest access is at Bram, just 10 minutes away or for more options in terms of boat trips, Castlenaudary is your best bet 15 minutes by car.

Groups with dare-devil teenagers and for those young at heart, we thoroughly recommend the adrenalin-fuelled experience of canyoning in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Various companies offer outings, about a 1 hour drive from us. The same places also offer canoeing and rafting.

Whilst multi-generational groups are our most common booking (grand-parents, kids and off-spring), we have also hosted several post-wedding celebratory weeks with friends and family, ex-university mates get-together, maternity/paternity leave break for young families and tourists from afar afield as Canada and Australia who made us one of their stop-offs during multi-month tours of Europe.

Please note that Domaine les Tisseyres hosts fully catered yoga retreats, small business owners retreats and weddings. Do enquire for details and photos, should this be of interest.

About Ed Simpson Emily Dawson

We are a family of five from the UK who moved to Fanjeaux in December 2010. Approaching our mid 30s we decided to up sticks to France in the Spring of 2010 with our 1 year old and haven't looked back. Our second daughter, Fleur, was born at Domaine les Tisseyres in October 2011, followed by Felix in May 2014. We hope you will come and enjoy this little gem of a spot so close to a myriad of sites and activities. Emily's background is in acupuncture whilst Ed worked in music and events as well as hospitality. We love sharing our Domaine with groups from all over the world and Freyja, Fleur and Felix all enjoy ensuring our little guests have a good time and plenty of things to play with.

Ed Simpson Emily Dawson purchased this farmhouse in 2010

Why Ed Simpson Emily Dawson chose Castelnaudary area

A stunning combination of calm and tranquility yet very accessible and active (skiing, Toulouse, wine tasting). The proximity of historic Carcassonne with its summer music festivals and all year round culture at Toulouse coupled with the benefits of the quiet countryside and village lifestyle of Fanjeaux was too good to resist. The spaciousness of the house combined with the idyllic woodland which as of 2014 will house a de-luxe yurt makes this a wonderful spot for kids to get back to nature whilst the parents enjoy the finer side of French country living: a winning combination for everyone's holiday needs.

What makes this farmhouse unique

A magnificent view over varied landscapes (valleys, rolling hills, sunflowers). Complete serenity and quiet yet short drives to various sites and activities. Lovely little boutiques and restaurants in Carcassonne and a variety of local antique and brocante shops for those who like the rural French style. The house has been tastefully renovated and decorated to ensure it remains in keeping with the Southern French style whilst providing all mod-cons such as American fridge, capsule-coffee machine, wi-fi and gas bbq.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you all so much for a wonderful holiday in your beautiful house; sunflowers, walks through the beautiful countryside, the challenging cycling routes, watching the Tour de France, the nights out to Limoux and Mirepoix, the vineyards, cycling along the canal du midi, the helpful staff at the Fanjeaux tourist office, the excellent outside catering and the wonderful pool with stunning views. It was the perfect house for our large noisy family of 8 adults and 10 children. Our only question was why did we not stay longer.

Just beautiful

  • 5 of 5

What can I's been about a month since we left Domaine les Tisseyres and I've recommended it to so many people already. It is set within the perfect location for visiting Medieval towns and market places; for walking and taking in the views of the Pyrenees and the Black mountains; for sunbathing by the pool and eating great food and drinking local wine together whilst enjoying the most beautiful view. The house catered perfectly for our group of eight adults and our 1 year old daughter. Freyja and Fleur brought fun and lots of laughter everyday day and our 1 year old was very well entertained! The table tennis table and basketball net seemed to distract the men from the cooking in the evenings(!) but the very handy BBQ meant that catering for our group was a very social affair! All we can say is thank you so much to Emily, Ed, Freyja, Fleur and Felix - we had the best holiday and would love to visit again!

Outstanding in ever way!

  • 5 of 5

Where do we start? What a perfect holiday we have all had (4 adults and 4 children aged 5, 3, 2 and 1). Undoubtedly our hosts have made the holiday so memorable. Freyja and Fleur are the most delightful girls and our boys will miss them dearly. Ed and Emily could not have been more helpful and generous with their advice time and support when our little one went on his 'adventure' with neighbour's dog Lucky. Never has there been a family more suited to running a gite!

As for our highlights other than those already mentioned (Mirepoix market, Carcassonne cité) we loved Montségur, even though the drive as about an hour, the views were spectacular and the drive very pleasant.

The whole group went cycling along the Canal du Midi (from a place just north of Castlenaudary, Seuil de Naurouze near Montferront). We visited all three lakes, Revel being our favourite because of the shade, cafés and setting. We even had a few drinks in Fanjeaux and walked home through the fields (on the track about 40 minutes).

All in all the holiday was fantastic, all of us agreed we could easily have stayed another two weeks.

We cannot thank Emily and Ed enough!

Forgot to mention the beautiful Felix too. What a sweety.

A little bit of Heaven in the sunflowers

  • 5 of 5

Thank you all so much for a wonderful holiday in Domaine Les Tisseyres, we all have been left with so many happy memories of your beautiful house in Fanjeaux; the sunflowers, the walks through the beautiful countryside, the challenging cycling routes in the traffic free roads, watching the Tour de France, the nights out to Limoux and Mirepoix, the vineyards, the wine, cycling along the canal du midi, the helpful staff at the Fanjeaux tourist office, the excellent outside catering prepared by Mark and his wife and the wonderful pool with stunning views.

It was the perfect house for our large noisy family of 8 adults and 10 children.

Our only question was why did we not stay longer??

Thank you again, we have already recommended your house to a few people.

Till we meet again.

Three Months at Domaine Les Tisseyres

  • 5 of 5

We are Kiwis who came to France for three months with two young children (1 and 3) and wanted a home away from home for the duration of our stay....which is exactly what we got and have been so lucky to be able to base ourselves here. The house is great and their pictures really do the house and gardens justice and show how it is here...spacious, homely, 'French'. Our kids have become great friends with the girls here and the playtime in the gardens and around the swings and playhouse is really relaxing, as are walks through the little woodland (that we have nicknamed the 'Butterfly Walk'). We will be househunting when we get home, and on our house shopping list is for neighbours like Ed and Emily...which speaks volumes to the character of our hosts and neighbours here. We will miss them. They are full of hints and tips for what to do in the surrounding area. This is a great place to holiday - there is so much to see and do within a short distance and slightly further afield. Whilst we are a family with young kids, there is no shortage of things for everyone in this area. We have loved Mirepoix (on market day and non-market days), walked and cycled the Canal du Midi at various places, gone to the beach, the lakes, wine and bubbles tasting, Carcassonne and abbeys, dined out at amazing restaurants and cafes all over the region, shopped (from Brocantes to outlets to 'high street' to village), done city escapes (Narbonne, Montpellier, Beziers, Toulouse) and so much more. Everything you would need is at the house. We loved the feel as soon as we walked in the front door - it feels like you are home. We spent hours and hours out by the pool...until the weather sent us inside more (where there are lots of DVDs, games and an amazing library). There is no shortage of space inside and outside the house for kids to escape from the adults. The Summer Kitchen opens right onto the pool. We would have loved to have been here for the height of summer, but have stayed for the end of summer and throughout autumn (Sept, Oct, Nov 2013) and would recommend this as a great place for staying if also looking for an out of high season holiday. Especially for people looking to do a longer stay somewhere and getting to really know a place like we have done. Ed and Emily should be really proud of the home they have created for people to holiday in...and we have loved our stay here.

What a wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Ed and family, what a wonderful stay. The house had everything to keep the 14 of us entertained for the week and we all had a great time. Definitely to be recommended and we look forward to returning soon.

You provided us comfy beds, a very well equipped kitchen and a lovely pool area to relax in. We loved the great party table which we made good use of by day and by night! And there was more to explore both within the grounds of the property as well as nearby Fanjeaux and slightly further afield in beautiful Carcassonne.

What a beautiful and secluded location, yet so convenient for the airport as well. Look forward to visiting again soon, and thanks for making us feel so welcome, we had a very happy week.
