About Meeri Saario

My name is Meeri (Mary in English), I am horticulturist, newly retired from Helsinki University. My family comprises my husband and our 14 years old German pointer 'Adalmiina'. We are everlasting lovers of nature and Lapland. We are living in South Finland, near to Helsinki, but we visit Lapland several times in year. I love cross country skiing in winter and picking wild arctic berries in summer, and my husband goes for fishing and hunting.

Meeri Saario purchased this cabin in 1990

Why Meeri Saario chose Lapland

Saariselka has been since decades the nature centre of Lapland. There are large nature parks in surroundings. Saariselkä is today a popular resort for all the year round. Most of the properties are private owned by Finnsih families. The best thing in Saariselka is, that it has preserved its nearness to nature. We property owners want also, that in developing of the resort the beautiful surrounding nature is the first thing to be taken in account. Saariselka is not built too tight. In number of visitors, Saariselka is no more the number one among the resorts in Lapland, but it is absolutely number one in many other aspects.

What makes this cabin unique

We own today 4 cabins to rent in the centre of Saariselka village. Three of them are very similar with each other, all presented here, and one is smaller.

You will find everything, shops, restaurants, spa hotel, safari offices,

slopes, ski tracks, bus stop for ski bus or for airport bus, only in distance of 100-500 meters. The location of the cabins is still pieceful and nice.

I have furnished and equipped my cabins so, that it is most comfortable and easy to live there. You need to bring only your personal things with you. Bed linen, towels, paper ware, washing agents are there ready for you. The maintenance of my cabins is taken care by Maintenance company Marko Tiainen. Marko and his family are living there very near. Marko takes care of cleaning, keys and technical maintenance.

Winter Wonderland

We spent the week of Christmas in this cabin. The owner, Maari was extremely helpful from start to finish. She organised a taxi from the airport and even supplied a Christmas tree which was lit up when we arrived! The cabin met all of our needs and the sledges in the wood store were appreciated by all the family. Despite the temperature outside being -25 we were always warm and cosy inside. The accommodation is only a very short walk from the main supermarket and all the main facilities. We loved our time in this cabin and in Saariselka and would recommend this cabin to anyone looking to stay in this resort. We loved Saariselka so much that we are already planning a return visit in 2016 and will definately be booking this accommodation again!

Owner's Response: I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay in Saariselkä, despite of some very cold days. The temperature varies in December - January very much. It goes up and down, mostly in periods of 3-5 days, so, I hope you will experience next time some less cold days. One good things with cold weather is, that the sky is then mostly cloudless and you might admire the Northern Lights. I wish you welcome in Saariselkä again!

great time

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this place. In the cabin you can find everything for a perfect holiday, and it offers enough space for wintersport equipement. If you cook yourself two supermarkets are close by, otherwise you have a good choice of restaurants. The location is perfect for cross country skiing and adventures like husky- reindeer- and snowmobilerides.

Very Nice!

  • 5 of 5

The property is very complete, spaceous and practical yet cheerful. The fireplace is a welcome and warming bonus. The location is very good, quiet yet in easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, bus stop, safari bureaus and cross country (or snow shoe) tracks.

We really enjoyed using this accommodation as our basis!

Cabin in Lapland

  • 3 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay here. The cabins are well located and only about 200 metres from the airport bus drop off point. The cabin itself was comfortable with its own sauna and wood burning stove which gave a nice cosy feel to the room. Although there are two bedrooms, accessed by a set of steep and narrow stairs, the cabin is most suited to families with young children or couples, as to get to the second bedroom you have to go through the first. The first bedroom is open plan at the top of the stairs, so has no privacy. We paid extra for bed linen and were a little surprised that the beds had not been made up. The kitchen facilities were adequate and we made use of it to have several meals in the cabin as eating out is quite expensive in Lapland. Again the cabin was well located being only a short distance from the supermarket. The owner provided very good and useful information prior to our arrival and Overall we would certainly consider using this cabin again.

A good place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Tout était comme indiqué sur l'annonce ; tout était propre et bien rangé. Le ski et le shopping sont tout à côté.

Dommage toutefois qu'il n'y ait pas de lit deux place pour les adultes...
