Hare Farm Oast is a very special place to stay. The large beautiful building has been finished to a very high standard as a contemporary holiday home. It occupies a prime position in an idyllic setting with its own half acre plot and extensive far reaching views. We have lovingly breathed new life back into the farm building with its three roundels, originally used for drying and storing hops. Using traditional craftsmanship and materials in its renovation, the oast continues to boast its unique heritage and beauty, whilst providing understated luxury and comfort to those who stay there.

About Joanna Thompson

Our parents bought Hare Farm in 1985 when the Oast house was a redundant building (the last hop harvest on Hare Farm was in the 70s) and so they used it as their potting shed. The farm is now run by my brother, Stuart, in one of the most beautiful parts of the Sussex countryside. Myself, Stuart and Annie (sister-in-law) restored and converted the Oast house in 2010/11. Alongside the sheep farm and conservation schemes, we offer both the Oast house and a shepherds hut as self-catering accommodation.

Hare Farm is often recalled as a true “Darling Buds of May” setting, made all the more so by the oast house which holds so much history and beauty architecturally. We could not let it collapse and disappear. We have invested in restoring it to its original beauty, and converting it in to a high-spec holiday home for our guests to all enjoy. Such a unique and historic feature in the Sussex landscape is now secure for generations to come, and we are very proud to have enabled this to happen.

What makes this barn unique

Hare Farm Oast is unique for its building and situation. Firstly it offers an idyllic setting (far from the road with spectacular views across the Brede Valley). Secondly, the oast house is one of the most stunning properties one could wish to stay in. It is spacious throughout, has three roundels, so six round rooms to admire and many of the original features are retained (exposed brickwork, timber, vaulted ceilings, hop equipment). Thirdly, it is finished to a very high spec, including luxury master bedrooms and en-suites, a fabulous round kitchen with Corian worktops and a Rangemaster cooker, oak and tiled floors with underfloor heating throughout the downstairs, Sky Sports and more. It really is a very special place to stay.

Spectacular views. Sheep and lambs graze up to garden fence. Many scenic walks from your doorstep. Local pub serving good food is 15 minutes walk away. Parking for several cars. Utility Room: Extra units, washing machine, drying line. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, linen and some toiletries provided. Property cleaned before arrival. Linen changed weekly. Other: Bedroom 5 downstairs can double up as a break out room by day. Spacious and large, it has a TV and sofa, plus the bed is a great space to rest and relax.

Perfect venue for friends get together

I spent a long time searching for a perfect venue for a large group of very discerning friends for a long weekend away in January , and was thrilled to find Hare Farm Oast .The property had everything we were looking for but far exceeded our expectations . The Oast is beautiful, very well equipped and immaculate. The owners have obviously gone to great lengths to make their guests feel at home . From the welcome basket of local produce, fresh flowers everywhere and a pile of logs and kindling for the log burner. We ventured out for local walks, trip to Rye and visited the wonderful Red Lion pub but all preferred to spend as much time as we could at the Oast . For the first time ever ( we go away at the same time every year ) most of the group commented that we would have loved to have stayed longer . We will definately revisit the Oast .

Relaxing weekend in the countryside

Beautiful property, well equipped kitchen, lovely welcome pack, and logs for the fire. This was our second stay and we will be booking again for next autumn. Lovely local walks, pubs and shopping.

A great weekend at Hare Farm

I spent a lovely weekend at the oast house with my family to celebrate a special birthday. We found the oast house to be warm, comfortable and very clean and had everything we needed. The children (2-7) enjoyed seeing the sheep and we would like to return, perhaps in spring or summer to enjoy the outside space and the views. Thank you to the owners for a memorable weekend.

Wonderful country setting for lovely house

Perfect setting for a three generation family holiday. The house is well equipped and maintained to a high standard. The young children loved the toy selection and freedom of the fenced garden. Plenty of space for games well separated from parking. Circular kitchen fun and bed and bathrooms good. Many interesting places to visit nearby. We enjoyed trips to Rye, Hastings and Camber Sands.

Unique and beautifully appointed property.

We had a truly wonderful stay at The Oast. It was an absolutely perfect base for our son's wedding in Hurst Green and 12 of us stayed in great comfort.

Apart from the accommodation being beautiful and the views and tranquillity being thoroughly appreciated, it was an ideal venue for us to entertain the bride and her family for dinner. I loved cooking in the extremely well-equipped kitchen and we had a memorable evening with the wood burner blazing - great fun!

We couldn't recommend it highly enough. The love which has gone into restoring this unique building is palpable and it was a privilege to spend such a special time there.

Simply the best

Our multi-generation party, aged from 2-81 is quite hard to accommodate but over the years we've found some great UK holiday lets. The Oast is by far our favourite and the highest standard we've found. It's a beautiful building, really comfortable and well-equipped (great kitchen, brilliant showers). The enclosed garden has a wonderful view, with sheep. The owners are close by for any problems or queries and were friendly and helpful but never intrusive. We didn't know the area and that was a nice surprise too, with some good walks directly from the house and Rye on the doorstep.

Book directly by telephone (07802 979348) or through the booking request form at www.harefarmhideaways.co.uk. We ask for 30% deposit up front, with the balance to pay 8 weeks before arrival (plus a £500 refundable security deposit).

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is typically a Friday in peak season and Friday/Monday off peak. We can be flexible, so please do enquire.

We also offer short break prices. 3 nights are between £1,000 and £1,500 and 4 night stays are between £1,100 and £1,600, depending on the time of year.
