Casananda - 2 air-con bedroom - 1 bathroom - Beach House in Ambalangoda, near Galle - 10 Min Walk from the City

This house was built in the "fusion spirit" of Ananda Houses, western design with use of local resources and know-how, polished concrete and woodwork (Ambalangoda is the place for antiques in the island), decorative objects carefully selected from traditional everyday objects. Both rooms are air conditioned. In the largest one, a king-size bed (180x200 cm) will screen shelter your nights. Storages and office area for your comfort. Under its broad net, the second bedroom offers a flexible space to suit your needs: a simple bed or two single beds separated or close together to form a king size bed. Storage space is cleverly integrated throughout with large drawers beneath the beds. The living room offers additional storage.

The bathroom, all in polished concrete is equipped with solar hot water.

In the living room you have a desk, a sitting area and a fully equipped kitchen (2 gas burners, refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster, kettle, coffee maker ...) so you can cook if you don't want to use our food service.

A speaker system is waiting for your Ipod or other MP3.

The living room opens onto the veranda, ideal to be lulled by the waves of the Ocean, and romantic meals.

West oriented for every evening sunset, secluded sandy beach but yet very close to the city, with local markets small distance from Galle, the historic city, many excursions to make around, like turtle farms, temples, boat trip on the laguna. We offer hotel-like services in your own private house. The manager is here for your every needs, a maid for breakfasts, cleaning and laundry.

You can go diving in a 15mn drive.

Secluded beach, nice neighborhood. Not far from the city but away from the tourist crowd. Yet in 15 mins you can reach Hikkaduwa for a lot of fun and restaurants. 30 mins from the historic city of Galle.

Relax at Casananda

Casananda is a tastefully appointed two bedroom villa located on the Western Coast, just south of Ambalangoda. The villa has direct access to the beach over a private sandy garden with sun loungers, being west facing the sunsets are spectacular.

Whilst simple, the villa is beautifully done and decorated in a contemporary style with a few 'traditional cultural touches', the kitchen has all you need for home cooking. However onsite staff provide Sri Lankan cuisine at a very reasonable cost if you don't want to cook.

We are a family of four and found the space fine for sharing, mealtimes etc. and the second bedroom which has two singles under a large four poster frame with mosquito net was easily separated for our two teenagers, but to be honest we all spent most of our time on the veranda admiring the view.

The beach is safe and clean, being virtually private to the few properties along its length with the main activity to watch being the fisherman who tirelessly take out their boats and nets. The other beach residents are a family of dogs who play in the surf and sleep most of the time, stray dogs seem to be common in Sri Lanka and this small group were no problem at all, not a noise or bother from them.

Casaanda is one of a group of three on the beach frontage and is managed by onsite staff and security. Breakfast is served and the house cleaned daily by friendly and helpful staff, the manager is always around for any help, insights or to arrange visits etc.

The owners Bruno and Nicole are friendly, helpful but unobtrusive hosts who were staying in one of the villas during our stay. They would enquire if we needed anything and offered advice on local sights, however the house book provides all the information you need and their recommended tuc-tuc drivers were a great asset.

During our stay we caught the train to Galle, amazingly cheap and a great way to get to this historic city and travel with the locals, with so much to see along the line! Go onto Lonely Planet for Travel Tips, Cafes etc. in Galle. The fort is literally a ten minute walk right across the road from the railway station, so don't get pressured into a 'tour' from all the drivers and touts.

In summary, Casananda is very well presented, clean comfortable and tastefully decorated, the amenities have been well thought out and the onsite staff provide everything you need to ensure a relaxing and chilled out vacation. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property.
