Historic stone house in Agde old town, 4km /15min bike to the beach
- english, french
Irish and Canadian couple, based in south east London. We hope you enjoy our house as much as we do!
Why Tanya chose Agde
We love the pace of life in Agde - and the peaceful location of our house in the town centre. We fell in love with the house - its lovely original features balanced with modern conveniences. The sandy beaches and warm waters of grau d'Agde are only a short bike ride away, and our favourite place to spend a sunny day, summer or winter. We enjoy dining on the rooftop terrace, and when we're not in the mood to cook - lots of choice with Agde's bars, cafes, and riverside restaurants with fantastic fish and seafood, as well as typical French set menus. The wine, food, rugby, Canal du Midi, historic buildings and towns nearby - what's there not to love about Agde and the region?
What makes this House unique
All amenities are within steps of the house in the town centre; bars, cafes, restaurants, supermarket, bakery, pharmacy, tabac, post office. Wonderful restaurants by the riverside. Agde is great for a 'no-car' holiday, with convenient train/bus transfers from both Montpellier and Beziers airports. If you tire of town and beach in Agde, then it's just a short train ride from Agde station to Beziers, Sete and Montpellier, or a bit longer (approx 1hr) to Perpignan and Carcassone,Narbonne. The network of bike paths around Agde is a pleasure to use. The house also has central heating, for cosy for off-season lets. **Note, the house may not be suitable for young children, or those uncomfortable using steep stairs.

Great Historic Village Getaway
This is an amazing place to stay if you want to be beach adjacent (the nearest beaches are a 10 minute drive away) but not immersed in the tacky resort culture along the Cap D'Agde and its environs.
It's a very old house in a very old village with tons of history, but the property itself has been updated to modern standards with a washing machine, rooftop deck with grill, and full bathtub/shower. The stairs are VERY steep and made of hard stone, but it's fine as long as you tread lightly and use the wall grips for support.
Free municipal parking can be found a 5 minute walk away from the house, and it was not a bother to retrieve the car each day we wanted to go to the beach vs. explore around town. There are great bakeries, butchers, markets, and restaurants walkable from the house as well as the twice weekly Market Day in the central plaza which is stone's throw away.
There was a high chair and pack-n-play crib for our baby, and it was easy enough to block her access to the steep stairs.
I would absolutely make this house part of my Languedoc pilgrimage every Summer.
Thanks very much Todd, for your kind review. We are so happy your family enjoyed our property and Agde as much as we do!
Agde, August 2017
Very nice stay in a town house located in the centre of the old city. Everything is within very easy walking distance. Local agent Sarah was excellent.
Thanks for your kind review, and pleased that you enjoyed your stay -
Roof terrace Heaven in beautiful Agde
Wonderful stay at this lovely house in Agde, it has everything you need and is very well equipped. It has 2 bedrooms and can easily sleep 4 adults comfortably and the beds/bedding and towels which are provided are of a high standard and included in the rental cost which was much appreciated...so no costly hidden extra fees which is very often the case in France! The Wifi connection was very reliable (also included) and there were two bicycles available for guests use, again at no extra charge.
The house is charming and very traditional with a typical staircase which goes all the way up to the top floor...where you will find the fantastic roof terrace equipped with high quality furniture (table and chairs and two sunbeds) and a barbecue for use. It's the perfect setting to relax al fresco and enjoy the views over the old town of Agde. I would definitely return and highly recommend this house.
Thank you Tell, for the kind review, we are so happy you enjoyed your stay at our house in Agde.
Thank you for your kind review Anne. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay.
